David was gone working from Tuesday through Saturday night, so I’ve been grateful for the phenomenal weather we’ve been having since we spent 99% of that time outside with friends.
We are fortunate to live near some really cool parks and know some really cool people that played with us until late in the day, leaving me only to scrub both the girls clean before calling it a night.
I decided to try and give Kaitlyn a good crib nap (which she refused) and bake breakfast at home on Saturday morning. I even busted out my first can of pumpkin for the occasion. Hailey sampled all the ingredients before deciding she loved flour the most and licked the measuring cups clean.
Whatever floats your boat kid!
She also helped me try to take decent pictures of our pumpkin cinnamon rolls to share with you soon. However, snapping pictures with a baby, a 3 year old and curious pup is no simple task. I’ll spare you the picture of spilled coffee, icing on the dog’s nose and a 5 month old that wanted to be in the shot, not bound to her exersaucer.
I had this great idea to fill the afternoon with a fall festival, so I dressed up the girls and attempted a family picture.
Swing and miss. Take two…
Eh, a career in family photography is clearly not in my future.
We headed out to a festival that ended up not existing, so we detoured to ‘downtown’ Davidson.
We hopped from playground to playground before deciding to grab dinner at The Pickled Peach, a new to me spot that I quickly fell in love with.
…and that wasn’t just the wine talking. Their kale caesar salad is incredible.
The girls were both so excited that daddy was home to play with on Sunday.
So was I because I totally kicked my feet up and took advantage of our unfinished back porch and David’s portable hammock for a legendary afternoon siesta.
After raving about our afternoon in Davidson the day before, we decided to try and recreate it, so after all our naps we headed back to Davidson for more playground fun and a walk around town.
We even returned to The Pickled Peach because I just needed David to try it. Plus, the had an amazing swing we took advantage of while waiting for our meal.
And just like that, the weekend was over.
Oh fall, I simply adore you.
Have you done anything fall-ish lately?
Festivals?
Pumpkin patches?
What’s your favorite fall activity?
Farah says
How sweet are those fall dresses?! Your girls are beauties! Your husband’s job hours sound a lot like my husband’s. I don’t know how they do it. I try so hard to be positive because he is such a dedicated, hard worker and provider(i am so grateful). I hate the long hours though because I miss him!
Brittany Dixon says
The wacky hours can be frustrating some days, right? I am so grateful too and try to remind myself that though I may be handling a lot at home, he’s out working his tail off. And it makes us enjoy the time together that much more. Team work! 😉

Pumpkin cinnamon rolls?! I die!
I’m loving the fall weather in NC right now. My roommate and I decorated our room for fall with mini pumpkins and decorations on our door.
My favorite fall activity is taking advantage of the awesome weather to run!
Lindsey @ SimplyLindsey says
Looks like a fun weekend, especially with those cinnamon rolls!! I don’t know if I’d consider this a fall activity, but my husband and I took a trip to Asheville to go to the Biltmore Estate on Saturday. The trees were beautiful in the mountains!
Brittany Dixon says
What an awesome trip! I’m itching to get to the mountains in the fall, though I’m not sure it will happen this year. I’ve never been to the Biltmore. I’m so glad you got to enjoy Asheville! What a great weekend for it 🙂
John J. Stathas says
Fall? It was 86 degrees at Lake Oconee! Did get in some good biking, golf, and boating while enjoying Summer’s probable last hurrah.
Marjorie @APinchOfHealthy says
Nice photos! LOL at the swing and miss. When trying to shoot our own family photos, nearly ALL of mine are a miss. 🙂
Ah fall. Our past three weekends have involved a fall festival, a pumpkin patch AND a college football game. 🙂 And many cans of pumpkin thrown into recipes through it all. I love fall!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh man, a football game is definitely missing from my fall itinerary. I’m hoping I can squeeze one it. So glad you got to soak up some SEC football!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
your porch is looking so awesome!!!!!!!
Brittany Dixon says
Thanks! I’m so anxious for it to be done. You’ll have to come over and check it out when it’s finished! 🙂
Monica says
Yes, fall is so wonderful! My daughter and I met up with our Mommy Group for a pumpkin patch adventure on Saturday, then my little family went to a different pumpkin patch on Sunday. Such a fabulous weekend. I adore this time of year!
Jenni says
What a fun weekend! I love finding new restaurants!!
We watched lots of baseball, visited the pumpkin patch and finished school projects! I think we’ll head downtown to explore next weekend! It looks like you had a lot of fun and the girls are adorable in their dresses!
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
Everytime you mention David being out of town, I feel guilty because (1) I only have one child right now; (2) it seems David is out of town every other week and I complain about my husband going out of town once a month. How do you do it?
My son’s Montessori school had a fall festival on Friday and we went to Boo at the Denver Zoo. It was a fabulous 80 degrees! It seems everyone’s having really warm fall weather!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh man, don’t give me too much credit! I have a lot of friends around here who have husbands that travel MUCH more than David. By comparison, I have it easy. The support system we provide for each other definitely helps 🙂
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
What a gorgeous and fun fall weekend! Love the girls’ cute dresses! And those cinnamon rolls – WOW!
Carrie (This Fit Chick) says
What a fun weekend! I want to go to a pumpkin patch- ive never been! I havent been fall enough this time around, but I am excited to celebrate Halloween!
Colette says
Aww, sounds like you guys had a fab time. I love all your pictures of outings etc. There’s a running joke in my house that anytime I watch a movie set in an American small town, with fall colours and picket fences, I always say ‘I want to live in America’, so now they say it before I get the chance! Lol. But your pictures of cafés, and pumpkin picking and your porch etc are exactly what I love!!
Keep them coming! I’m so jealous. Want to swap and come live in dreary old Ireland?? Lol
Laura @FitMamaLove says
I love that you included mentions of all the craziness that happens during this fun stuff when you have two little around. 🙂
Heather says
Sounds like the perfect weekend. We’ve been to one pumpkin patch, and have up all of our Halloween decorations, but we’ve had so much going on we haven’t done too many Fall things this year. I suppose we’ll have to remedy that next year!
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
Your weekend looks really fun! I am so envious of your backyard — it’s amazing!
Lauren @ Fun, Fit and Fabulous! says
I need your back porch and that hammock in my life! Oh, and if I could eat your cinnamon rolls in the hammock that would just be delightful! 🙂 We took Belle to the pumpkin patch last weekend; however, it’s kind of hard to get in the fall spirit when it is still 85-90 degrees outside! No thank you! Davidson looks too cute, and definitely somewhere I would want to visit two days in a row!
char eats greens says
I am so not the family photographer I had hoped to be either haha!! But still, the girls are incredibly adorable – blurry photos or not (I’d hire you! haha). The only fall thing we did this year was head to the orchard to get apples, but it was an incredible quick trip, so it didn’t even count. Ah, maybe next year!
Kale caesar salad, come to me!
Liz Nwansi says
How fun! My husband is obsessed with kale so if we could find a kale caeser salad somewhere that would be a dream! We haven’t done anything fall-ish this week, but tonight if I can muster up the energy I’m going to run to the store and carve some pumpkins with my peanut.
Matt says
Oh man those cinnamon rolls!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
Cutest sisters ever!!
And it doesn’t feel like Fall in Miami – more like early summer. The closest I’ve gotten to it are the pumpkin goodies I’ve made at home!
kath says
Love your blurry family photo! Ha.
Also….your porch! So exciting.
And yay for Davidson!
