I’m 5 days into my first ‘Leaves’ candle of the season and it is almost completely gone. October, you sure do make me smile.
We started the weekend off on a pretty exciting foot for these parts. David and I spent Friday afternoon building the bunk beds!
The girls were giddy at the idea of sleeping in the same room and though our initial thought was not to start bunking them right away, we decided to give it a try Friday night.
We did our routine, tucked them in and left them in excited giggles. However, to cut a long story short, an hour later Hailey was upset that Kaitlyn wouldn’t be quiet for her to go to sleep which led Kaitlyn to cry for her crib and since David and I had already paused our movie about 10 times, we split them up and enjoyed the sweet sound of sleeping children at last.
We’ll try again next weekend, since now they both are asking when they can sleep in there together again. Kids have short memories, no?
Saturday morning David had to work so the girls and I filled the morning with the Davidson Farmers market. It was cool enough to enjoy but warm enough to still devour some Raspberry Lime Pops from King of Pops. We stayed there until our friends arrived.
Christen is my best friend starting from the first week we moved into the dorm at UGA! You know, 14 years ago (?!?!?!). Her oldest is just slightly older than Hailey and they played so well together, with the two littlest (both 2) doing their best to keep up with the big kids.
Christen, Brad, David and I spent the afternoon watching football (ouch dawgs, though it must feel pretty great to be a Vol after Saturday…), cruising the lake, letting the kids play on the bounce house and snacking of course!
I don’t know how I didn’t get a single picture of us together, but I guess you guys will have to come back up soon Christen!
I loved having them here and it made the weekend feel like a vacation. It wore the kiddos out too because both Kaitlyn and Hailey took solid naps after they left on Sunday. This rarity left me a plethora of time to clean, do laundry and food prep!
I’m on the salad in a jar kick again. Having these ready to go throughout the week is clutch. This time I went with Garlic Expressions dressing, carrots, cucumbers, red cabbage, purple onion, tomato, avocado, quinoa and romaine. I’m planning on boiling some eggs to have on top too.
With a busy Monday on the books, I also prepped the veggies I needed for my slow cooker pot roast. I can’t wait to see how the house smells later today!
Then there were muffins.
I had made so many batches of my Apple Cinnamon Oat Muffins lately that I decided to switch it up, but ended up regretting it. I like the oat muffins so much better. Oh well, the girls can crumble these on yogurt.
When the girls woke up it was so beautiful we had to get out of the house.
Hailey has been asking for a pumpkin for forever, so we stopped by a little place near us to hold us over until we can make it to one of the big patches.
The girls loved picking out little pumpkins to color and paint at home. I have a feeling we’ll be going through a lot of pumpkins this October!
Back at home we all ate dinner together (which while not exactly relaxing, our new family dinner routine is going really well!). I made Spicy Fish Taco Bowls.
I loved the flavor of the cabbage slaw, but other than that the taste of the overall dish underwhelmed me. It wasn’t bad, just kind of blah. I must be alone though, as it has great reviews!
And with that, our first October weekend was in the books. I am loving this fall weather and am excited for all the season has to bring.
Any fellow Georgia fans still feeling the sting with me this morning?
Which pumpkins are your favorite? Classic orange? Misshapen gourds? White?
