I still get Stitch Fix (<- affiliate link!) deliveries on the regular in an attempt to expand my wardrobe beyond athletic shorts and tank tops. I’m a work in progress. Anyway, lately I’ve realized that things I think look flattering on me, don’t appear that way in photos, which has further confirmed my belief that I really don’t know anything about how to dress for my body type (short and pear-shaped- and I mean that in a very kind way).
So in that light, I wanted to enlist your feedback on my latest fix on what I should keep and return, so picture this as a little…
Ok, here we go.
Quick disclaimer: I do not have time to style my hair, much less an outfit (which perhaps I should keep in mind while choosing what to keep). So jewelry or shoe suggestions are welcome too. In the meantime I threw on my new favorite wedges and called it a day. I had limited photography time with my little people running around after all. Oh, and thanks for indulging my completely self-serving advice-searching post!
#1 Saxby Scoop Neck Top by Loveappella- $54.00
Realistically speaking, I should have flat sandals on with this top and probably a pair of fitted dark jeans. I don’t think this is considered high fashion, however it is something I can totally see myself throwing on for a regular weekday while running around with the girls. And if I’m being honest, this is pretty much my casual style- comfortable, easy, can wear a regular bra.
#2 Market & Spruce Colibri Sleeveless Top – $44
I really wanted to like this one. The polka dots were cute and it was comfortable, but… is it a shirt? or a dress? because my gosh it is longggg. I couldn’t tuck in all that fabric so I tried a belt on but…
#3 Loveappella Montel Dress – $78
At first glance, I thought way too baggy. But, my Achilles heel is comfort and at least it is drawn in at the waist. Kind of cute! I love the back of it too…
but since I don’t have a clue what kind of bra I’d wear with it I think it might end up hanging in my closet with the tags on?
#4 Level 99 Robbie Jogger Pant – $88
I mean…. ?! I put these on and Hailey asked why I was wearing boys pants. Ha. Totally not flattering, right? I didn’t have clue what to do with them. I wouldn’t even know how to start styling something like this.
…and let’s be honest, $88?
#5 Skies are Blue Roe V Neck Top – $44
This one I liked. I love the colors and the pattern. I felt good in it. I didn’t think it was too long for my frame and liked that it was a little flowy. My favorite from the bunch for sure.
So there we go. My fashion photography and model skills are impressive, I know, but try to look past that. I’m open to tips on what styles or looks would work on my body type. I love feeling pulled together but mostly need clothes that can be thrown on quickly and comfortably while I play with my kiddos.
If are interested in getting your own customized stitch fix delivery (it’s always so much fun!), I’d appreciate you using my affiliate link HERE.
Ok (deep breath)… be kind… what do you think?

You are adorable! Unfortunately, most of those items don’t flatter you. You’re so petite that they kind of drown you instead of letting you shine. The first shirt is cute on you and I actually like how you styled it but it also seems like something you could easily find at target for a fraction of the price. For a basic cotton shirt $55 seems a bit much. The second shirt is gigantic on you. I could see the long hem being good to wear with leggings but it seems too dressy for that. But what do I know. I’m typing wearing my husbands basketball shorts and a baggy sleep shirt 🙂 Navy blue is a great color on you and the back detail on the dress is super cute! But it’s at least 4 sizes too big and swallows you up. I actually like the pants. They seem super comfortable but not $88 cute and you look really uncomfortable in them which is definitely not how you want to feel when you first put something on. Usually there’s a honeymoon period for new clothes and if you don’t even have that, odds are you’ll never wear it. The last shirt is cute and more fitted but again I don’t think it does much to really make you shine. You’ve posted photos lately of you in “real clothes” and you look truly stunning (as you are!) but these don’t really seem to have the same effect. And it’s definitely not the girl, it’s the clothes. I assure you of that 🙂
And now I’m totally tempted to try stitchfix again though every item I’ve purchased I’ve worn once and then never worn again. Honeymoon period, I tell ya.
Kayla says
I absolutely love the last top on you! It looks fabulous with those white jeans and wedges! Definitely a keeper.
Tammy says
I agree with everything Regina said!
Melissa says
You have such a great figure, but in my opinion the clothing they sent to you swallows you up. I’m petite and unfortunately Stitch Fix doesn’t seem to know or understand how to dress for our petite frames. If I was going to keep anything, it would be the last shirt. I’m over Stitch Fix even after they now have petite sizes.
Have you tried White House Black Market or Nordstrom? You can make an appointment with a personal stylist to show you have to best dress your figure. I think you need less baggy and more form fitting to show off your curves!!
Jessica @ Our Young Adventures says
I also agree with the others so far. The first top looks cute and comfy but something you could pick up anywhere. The last top is the best. I hate when a fix is a dud! I’ve had one where everything was cute, but so dang long! Also, while that dress does look a bit too big, for the future my go to with anything backless (or anything sleeveless for that matter) is something I found in college at target! My college best friend and I called them “Sticky boobs” but, yes, they are a sticky bra and reusable too. I have a very small chest so I gave up on strapless bra’s years ago and I would probably only recommend it for smaller chest, but they are in a purple box in the bra section of Target for less than $20!
John J. says
One man’s opinion: first and last look particularly good on such a pretty woman!
Carolyn says
I like the first top, but $55 does seem really high unless it feels like good quality. I also like the last shirt. I think the blue dress is adorable and is worth checking with SF to see if you can get a smaller size. You could wear a bra like this: http://brasforbacklessdresses.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/nggallery/bras-for-low-cut-dresses/untitled-2-112-1.jpg or http://brasforbacklessdresses.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/nggallery/bras-for-low-cut-dresses/backlessstrapless-1.jpg.
The pants are awful and the blue shirt is way too big and long.
Good luck!
Austin says
I love #2 and #5 with the white pants. Both are so flattering on you. I don’t think the polka dot shirt is too long, i really like the length with the white jeans underneath. I think the dress looks really great, but I agree on what type of bra is this supposed to go with?!? I would say #1 is too expensive for what it is (can find basics like this at gap) and the arms look a little tight. I loved this post, I’ve been reading for years but rarely comment. Hope this is the type of feedback you are looking for!
Tracy says
I agree with Austin! The blue polka dot top (without the belt) and the last top both look very pretty with the white jeans. I’m on the fence about the dress. There are some pretty elements to it, but it is a little big and a too long. If it’s super comfy and you would wear it a lot, that’s definitely a positive!
Katie says
The last shirt is a definite yes! I wish the navy with polka dot shirt was just a tad shorter, I love it with the white jeans, but it is too long. As for the navy dress, I love it, but if you don’t have a bra to wear with it, return. There are some cute lacy bras that are meant to be seen these days, but if you aren’t 100% comfortable, return.
Jessica says
I guess I’m in the minority on this…or I don’t know how to dress for my body type either! I’m petite as well 🙂 I think the polka dot shirt is super cute on you, without the belt. It’s a tunic style so it’s supposed to be loose and flowy. The first shirt is cute, but like others said, you can pick up one similar much cheaper. The dress is way too big. I love the joggers and would wear a cute button down, sleeveless chambray shirt with them tied in a knot (because I’m a child a of the 80’s and love that style). But I wouldn’t pay $88 for them! I like the last shirt because you can wear it with so many things…white jeans, dark jeans, toss a long cardigan over it and wear with leggings in the winter…lots of options!
Paulina says
I think you need to size down one or two sizes to find tops and dresses that flatter your shape best. I know that the “in” style is very drapey and slouchy, but I think those styles look good on really tall women. The striped shirt looks comfy but I think a basic Merona fitted T from target would look better on you (and cost much less), and still be comfortable and easy. Maybe if you update your stitch fix profile to request things in a smaller size or more form-fitting (not tight/clingy) style, you’re next fix would be a winner.
Liz says
I would never consider you pear shaped but you are darn petite and those clothes are a little big for you, but you still look adorable. You could even make those boy pants cute with those heals and a white buttons down and some cute jewelry the last top is cute on you. I do stitch fix too and find their clothes to be a little baggy for my liking too at times. Good luck!
Bethany says
OK – so i actually love #1 & #2 on you! I think the long and lean looks works awesome. I kinda want to find #1 for myself!
thanks!
Tessa says
I like #5 the best on you! It’s cute & I think it’d be easy to dress up or down…. and it’d only be $24 after your $20 styling fee is applied! 😉 I’ve received 5 or so fixes so far and have found that it is important to give very detailed feedback on each item and to also be specific in your note before your fix arrives. I loved the style of my third fix and requested the same stylist for my next couple boxes.
Allison D. says
You have such a cute little body! Most of this stuff looks kind of cheap and overpriced. Honestly, I like the jogger pants the best. I think you can style them a few different ways.
Beth says
Agree with the consensus:
Keep the last top for sure. I love the colors, and it’s so unique. Looks great with white pants.
I like the first top a lot but $55 is too much for a cotton top. I’ve returned Stitch Fix tops and actually told them that I’ll pay more for a top in a dressier material, but I mean, a cotton striped top can be purchased anywhere for way less. I just did a quick search for one at GAP for example that is $25.
The dress is cute. I would never end up wearing a sticky bra on the regular though:( And, it’s too big and baggy for you.
I think the polka dot top would be cute with leggings, no belt.
I’m with Hailey on the pants!;-)
Brynn says
this post just made my day. Love a good tee and the v-neck is gorgeous.
Brittany says
I love 1 2 and 5 but think number one is a little steep of a price. But 2 and 5 with the white pants look great!
Heather says
I agree with pretty much everyone else. Ha ha. The first top is cute, but way overpriced. The last top is really cute and looks comfortable. I do tend to agree with how baggy most of the items seem, though. The navy dress would be so cute if it was just a bit smaller – you have a great figure!
Christine says
You’re so cute! What better way to find out if things looks good on you than to ask a bunch of girls! (um, women but this is a girly thing we all love to do!)
I love #1. Its got a casual look to it, something you could throw on with a pair of shorts or jeans and look put together with minimal effort!
I like #2 without a belt and paired with your white pants. It would be cute for a casual evening out. But if you’re hesitant, send it back!
I also love #5 on you..super cute!
The dress does look a little loose and IDK about a bra, as a mom I wouldn’t have time for that, haha…and the pants looks a little short?
marie says
Honestly, its not you it’s the clothes. You got a bad batch, I think. Keep the V-tank top – very cute, send the rest back. Oh, I SO LOL when I read what Hailey sad about those pants – my 3 1/2 year old would say the EXACT same thing. Too funny.
Noa says
I agree with the consensus. The last top looks great on you. The first top is nice but not worth the money. I agree with the recommendation to try WHBM or Nordstrom to have a stylist help find clothing that will fit you right.
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
I love that last top on you! Super cute! And from the side I thought the joggers were super cute but they just look meh from the front. They’re not tailored enough at the bottom
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
I do think that first top would look really cute with long dark jeans! It also looks comfy! And the back of that dress is super cute but if you don’t love the fit, then don’t keep it! I’ve been trying to pare down my closet since I have too many things I don’t LOVE so my best advice is if you don’t love love love it, then don’t keep it!
Nikki says
I honestly think everything but the dress is a keeper! Keep in mind that Stitch Fix sends clothes that are trendy and in-style so if you’re looking for an up-to-date wardrobe, you’ve found it.
I noticed many people commented that you could find a top similar to #1 at Target (and you likely could! For cheaper!) but when you head out to grocery store or run errands, you see people wearing the same thing. That’s what’s nice about Stitch Fix – they are more boutique items that are more one of a kind.
I REALLY like the longer navy/polka dot tunic top! It looks awesome paired with your white skinny jeans and the wedges. A cute girls’ night out or date night outfit. I say keep!
I also really like the green pants! They fit you, are dressier than a black pair of yoga pants and can be thrown on with a variety of different colored tops and flip flops. I say keep!
And the last top with white skinny jeans and wedges – again – perfect!
I’d say the only thing I don’t care for is the dress – it’s not flattering for your figure.
I would recommend focusing on finding more form fitting tops – you’re so petite that you need something that shows your shape.
Layla says
I love the last shirt. It looks good on you!
Kristin says
I’m probably just going to echo what everyone has already said, but I’ll offer my opinion anyway. The first top is cute, and you say it’s comfy which is important. But $54 for it? It doesn’t look like it’s worth that, but that’s my opinion.
The second shirt (navy blue sleeveless) has potential, but like you said, so long! If you were willing to get the length hemmed up a couple inches, it would be great!
The last top was super cute! The colors are wonderful on you and it looks fantastic with the white jeans and wedges. It doesn’t even need any accessories which saves on time!
Christina says
Love this post! I really love the dress (and think it looks great on you!), but I also struggle with tops that require a “special” bra. I agree with others that the last top is my favorite.
I love Stitch Fix, and have added some nice pieces to my wardrobe as a result, but my biggest pet peeve is that most of their tops and dresses are so filmy and transparent that I almost always have to wear something underneath. They sent me one adorable dress, but it was returned b/c I would have to wear a full-length slip underneath! (ummm….no. Does such a thing even exist??) Do others have this issue or is it just me?
Tracy says
I love the polka dot shirt (no belt) with your skinny white jeans! Super cute! Same goes for the last shirt. Shirt #1 is way too expensive! You could find something similar at Gap clearance for about $10 right now. Especially if you’ll just be wearing it around with the girls. I’m not a fan of the blue dress. The length is just off on your height and I think the back is a bit “gimicky”… too trendy or something.
Keep #2 and #5 and hang on to those white jeans of yours! They look great on you!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
I always adore Hailey’s commentary. Hahaha.
Keep the first and the last, ditch the rest! I love those two on you. 🙂 TBH, StitchFix really dropped the ball on me the past few Fixes I got. I cancelled the service because I felt like things went from being trendy to weird/very “last year” or last season. You’ve got some good ones there, though!
Jackie says
I agree with everyone. You have a great body, but the clothing does you no justice.
The shoes on the other hand are great! where did you get them?
I love your blog! Please don’t ever stop blogging!
Maggie says
Personally speaking I was a stitch fix user and stopped because I felt the clothes were very cheaply made with a crazy markup for what you are getting. However, I probably spend more money then the average person on clothing bc I love shopping and live in NYC where everything is way more expensive. My suggestion to you is to buy shorter tops because because they work better for you body type. Also slim cut ankle jeans and pants are always a good staple. You want keep things clean cut and less flowy (not a word) bc you are petite. You don’t need a ton of color. Stick to more solid neutral and earth tones because they are the easiet to work with when putting outfits together. Unless sometime really speaks to you in the store or you can invision what you would wear it with don’t buy it. Also ask sales people for suggestions- that’s what they are there for. Flip through magazines and cut out looks you like. Sometimes a few more expensive key pieces are better then the stitch fix stuff. Hope this helps.
Grandma Honey says
Pear shape? Are you kidding….no way. You make a really cute model. You even have the poses down.
Sarah says
I think the polka dot top looks great on you. It is meant to be long. I am thinking if you wear it with heels then it would be perfect, since you are on the shorter side. 🙂 Those tight-fitting white jeans look great with it, or even leggings. You can dress up the outfit with some dressy jewlery if you think leggings are too casual. No belt though!
I agree with everyone else that the first shirt is a bit pricey, although I think it looks great on you. I think the longer sleeves pair really well with shorts, and it would go well with casual heels. You could use that for a night out, again, dressed up with some jewlery!
Liz says
I like the last top and the polka dot one without the belt! I’m super small and love the bigger shirt look. Probably looks bad on me, but whatever. I don’t think the polka dot one is too long. #1 is okay but too expensive for something so basic.
christina says
I like the last top the best. It’s cute and seems to fit well. The other pieces are too big on you and with your fit shape, you should wear pieces to show off your curves, girl! The dress is too baggy and the polka dot shirt, while ADORABLE with pants (good job!) is simply too long. Isn’t being petite a pain in the booty?!
Nancy says
#1: cute and practical but would not be worth $50 for me. could get something similar at target or gap
#3: navy is a nice color for you but dress is too big. plus if you see it mostly hanging in the closet, pass.
#5: winner.
in general if you don’t love it, wait for something else!
Kelly says
I love #2 on you!! With those pants & shoes and no belt. Embrace the longer shirt 😉
Carol Ritz says
I like the navy top, maybe with a silver chain belt, loose.
Where did you get the white jeans?
mary says
Thought shirt #1 was kind of “meh” and not really anything I’d rely on a stylist to pick out for me. I guess the opinions on the polka dot tunic are mixed but I’m on the side of really liking it on you (sans belt for sure!). It looks great with the white pants and would also look great with skinny jeans (maybe some ripped ones with cute sneakers for a casual look). The dress is way too big and those joggers are actually a super cute style but quite frankly need to be baggier. I’m also petite and didn’t think that style would work for me until I found the perfect pair. When they’re baggier you can style them with a slim tank and a long necklace and it’ll look really cool. The last shirt is cute and could be really versatile as I think it’ll look cute with shorts or skinny jeans.
This was fun!
Josephine Sharpe says
I like the dress on you but if you can’t figure out the bra you won’t wear it and I love the last top on you, pretty colours. I always think you look beautiful when you post pictures of you in real clothes. I used to be a dress and heels and outfits kind of girl. After I lost my baby weight my husband took me shopping and bought beautiful impractical things like shift dresses and silk blouses and other proper outfits. I was shopping for someone else’s life I tell you. I live in tshirts and jeans from gap. Sometimes coloured jeans and a striped tshirt of I’m trying to look nice. If I go all out I might put some makeup on and curl enhancer in my hair and air dry!
Alexis says
Those white jeans look FAB on you! But, as said above, you are itty bitty petite frame so more fitted/structured would flatter your great figure more. Think items that cinch at the waist, not as flowy, a bit shorter, etc. Check out http://www.extrapetite.com/ (she’s Boston based & classic/simple style), you may find some inspiration
Cassie says
I love Stitch Fix, but they are a tad too expensive for me right now.
