I went looking for proof of our 2018 snow, but only found our 2014 snowstorm, 2015 (I miss baby wearing!), 2016, and 2017. Still, it’s been a long time!
The weatherman had been wavering between seeing real snow or perhaps it would just be ice. We like to think we did our part by implementing all the scientifically proven strategies to bring snow:
- Ice cubes in the toilet
- Spoons under our pillows
- White crayons in the window sills
- Pajamas on backwards
To all that enjoyed the benefit of our actions, you’re welcome (wink)
We awoke Saturday morning with a shout from Kaitlyn emerging from her room uncharacteristically early (SNOW!) and things started rolling right then and there. David and I got a sip of coffee in before we all were bundling up in our snow gear and heading outside.
We ran into our friends down the street and all took off for the popular sledding hill in the neighborhood. We stayed and played for an hour or two before our frozen toes demanded we head back for breakfast. Including hot chocolate and marshmallows, of course!
It continued to come down all day, sometimes as sleet, but sometimes as fluffy flakes. We alternated between playing hard outside and coming in to cook and eat. It was so much fun to see the kids’ excitement and participate in the fun with them. We had snowball fights, found new sledding spots, and chased Finley around. We discovered she LOVES the snow.
Whenever we were inside, we were in the kitchen. The girls are pros now at whipping up hot chocolate while I handled main meals. A few things we devoured included:
- Immunity-Boosting Golden Soup
- Homemade Vegetable Beef Soup
- Homemade Dinner Rolls in the Dutch Oven
- Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing
On Monday, the sun returned but the snow stayed, making an even better day for play. The kids sledded and built snowmen with their friends all day long. David and I got in a workout and a long walk and caught up on admin tasks. Not as exciting as snowball fights, but it was nice to have the kids so happily occupied so we took advantage of it.
Last night, after hot showers all around, we curled up for movie night and watched Pirates of the Caribbean. I was worried it might be a little scary, but both girls did fine with it. It’s fun to be in a category of movie watching where the movies are truly entertaining for all!
There’s a chance for more snow at the end of the week and if so, we’ll continue working our way through this list of classic movies to introduce your kids to. But first, there is a week to be had, including a return to co-op and soccer and TKD!
I hope you are warm and well; have a wonderful Tuesday (that feels like a Monday…)

I thought Finley was a mommy’s girl and the first two pics proved me right! So cute! Our boys loved the snow too. Had to drag them in after a few hours of fun. We watched the new Clifford movie at your suggestion and it was a hit. 🙂

So glad you guys enjoyed Clifford, too!

Kids make the snow so much more fun! Glad to hear that Finley loves the snow. So does our dog, Ryder. That bread you had looked amazing!

It was funny because Finley loved it but doesn’t have a thick coat of fur, so every once in a while we’d look over and she’d be shivering so much but wouldn’t want to go inside! We had to force her- ha!
