Remember all those times I told you that you’d never see fashion on here? Well… I’m eating my words because today is about fashion! But no worries, I am definitely not giving out fashion advice; instead, I’m receiving it! I just thought it would be fun to share.
Have you heard of ? This service basically gives you a personal shopper that picks out clothes for you according to your size and style preferences, then mails you 5 options to try. You keep what you like and mail back (in a pre-labeled, prepaid bag) what you don’t.
You can choose to get monthly deliveries or only one. No contracts. Being that I desperately need fashion help, and saw how much fun my friend Maria had with it, I signed up.
I was SO excited when my package showed up!
I specified that I needed tops and received 3 tops, a blazer and a pair of earrings.
Just like Cher Horowitz, I don’t trust mirrors, so I pulled out the camera.
However, please disregard my half wet hair.
Olive and Oak
Sammy Striped Knit Blazer
$88.00
The blazer felt bulky on me. For me, it was too casual for a professional setting and too fancy (I know, not fancy, but I’m not fancy at all) for a casual setting. I couldn’t see where I’d wear it, so it went in the no pile.
41Hawthorn
Isadora Cowl Sleeveless Jersey Top
$48.00
This top was comfortable and I surprisingly didn’t hate the cowl neck, but it felt so long on me. (PS, I know my pants are super baggy, but they are from a long time ago. Clearly, I haven’t worn office attire in a LONG time).
The shirt just hung over my bum too far, so I put it in the no pile.
Sweet Rain
Isaac Floral Print Tab-Sleeve Blouse
$58.00
I was prepared not to like this one, but it surprised me when I put it on. The floral print was unlike anything I have and felt feminine.
Did I mention that all garments come with advice on how to style the item?
Pretty cool, right?
I could see myself wearing the top with my black skinny jeans or even possibly with shorts. Yes, I decided I liked this shirt.
It went in the ‘keep’ pile.
Sis Sis
Wade Button-Up Tab Sleeve Blouse
$48.00
I don’t feel like this shirt did a whole lot for me, but it was really comfortable. It reminded me of something I could get at Old Navy (not an insult, just not worth paying $50 for). Since it’s getting warm (ok, HOT) out already, I figured I wouldn’t get much use out of it, so it went in the no pile.
Betty Carre
Wavy Circle Gold Earrings
$35.00
These were cute, but being that I don’t wear many earrings, I wasn’t up for paying $35.00 for some that look like a pair I have stashed in a drawer somewhere. They were a no.
Overall the experience was really fun! I scored one nice shirt out of it and the rest on on their way back. I actually already signed up for another box to be delivered. I’m afraid it may be addicting, but it may be a good way to add a few nice items to my wardrobe without having to spend hours shopping at the mall, which is something I appreciate as a person who doesn’t like clothes shopping and as a busy mom.
Interested in trying it yourself? It’s easy! You fill out a form with your sizes and preferences (it’s pretty detailed!), and your price range preference (which I think is a nice option). They charge you $20 to send a box, but if you choose to buy an item, it goes towards the purchase of your item.
If you do try it out, I’d really appreciate you using because I’ll get a credit when you get your first box. Just wanted to give full disclosure; I’d love to get another shirt or two
Clothes shopping- love it or hate it?
I’m not a fan, but I could spend a whole day happily grocery shopping. I know, what a weirdo!
Lauren says
I love that blazer!
My concern with trying this is that I seem to wear different sizes at different stores. Would you say you put the size you wear from Pld Navy (since you mentioned it in your post)?
Thanks for sharing this!
Brittany says
I clicked 2 sizes sometimes to give them a range of where I usually fall. With shirts I am pretty standard. I have a feeling if I wanted them to send me pants it would be trickier. They give you quite a few opportunities to specify your size and style though, so I found it pretty easy to get my needs across. Try it out and see what you think!
Hanna says
This is really neat! I’m definitely trying this service out. I kind of enjoy clothes shopping, but not as much as I used to. I feel like since I became a mom and that I’m older than I was when I really enjoyed shopping, my style should change some. I hope that makes sense. I feel a bit lost in what styles look good on me now that I’ve had babies. This site would help me find flattering styles without having to spend hours shopping! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
That blazer looks super cute on you!! I am a huge fan of the casual knit blazers that are so “in” right now :).
Erin @Axell's Kitchen says
LOVE the shirt that you kept!!
Verna says
The blazer does look nice on you, and I love the floral shirt you chose as well! I hate shopping as well and with two toddlers and another on the way, just don’t get to the mall often (or ever). Fun idea, thanks for sharing!
emily says
I’ve wanted to try that! But it’ll have to wait until this baby fat goes away 🙁 no point in getting a $50 shirt that i won’t fit in a few months haha
blackhuff says
Just look at your first photo here on your blog. The first thing I noticed was your cute daughter. She is looking at what mommy is doing 🙂 Priceless.
I thought you look rather great in that red top but yes, one need to feel comfortable in what you wear as well.
Brittany says
She was so funny poking around and playing with Koda while I was modeling. I love that she hovers around me.
Beth says
LOVE the floral shirt and like the blazer, too. I also love your “consultants” in the backgrounds of the pictures! Hailey is so interested in the first photo. Super cute!
Ashley says
I love that blazer on you and the floral top!
Kaitlyn @Keeping up with Kaitlyn says
I’ve seen this over on the Fitnessista! it looks so fun! I wish I wasn’t a poor college student or I’d definitely try it out. I know $20 for the box isn’t that much. But I fear I’d love everything and not want to send any of it back! haha I do like the shirt you kept!
Paulina says
This is the coolest thing ever! I commented on one of your previous posts about how my wardrobe is 50% office attire and 50% lounge wear. I think I’ll have to try this service.
For what it’s worth, I love the blazer on you, it looks casual enough to wear everyday with the right jeans and could be dressed-up for a night out.
Sarah says
Super cute stuff- I think you’ve actually inspired me to sign up. Gonna wait until we move, but I’ll use your referral link. Can’t wait to see what they send me (and what you get next). Not a fashionable person at all, but feeling like I could use a little sprucing up. This SAHM mom thing can make you a little frumpy sometimes.
Brittany says
Yes! I’m a giant frump and trying to break free from it. 🙂
Sarah says
I’ve tried Stitch Fix once so far, and I really loved it. I need to do a post on the items I received, since mine were all maternity tops, which is a little different than any of the other Stitch Fix reviews I’ve read. I ended up keeping all 5 of my items, which probably says more about the sad state of maternity retailers where I live than anything, but I’m glad I splurged and got myself some decent things to wear for the next few months.
Brittany says
They have maternity?! SO cool! Yes, please do a post on this! When I was pregnant I couldn’t find anything I liked.
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
I definitely like the concept. I’m not a big shopper and I’m pretty clueless about fashion, so I like the idea of having someone do the work for me! 😉
Parita @ myinnershakti says
The blazer is cute! I like the way it looks on you. May be a fun piece for date night (?!). I’ve been thinking about trying StichFix for a while now but haven’t signed up. It’s a neat concept, and I could use the help! LOL!
Sarah@ making thyme for health says
Hailey looks so cute next to you! I think the floral print shirt is really pretty on you. Thanks for listing the prices too! I’ve always been curious how much StitchFix runs.
Jen says
The shirt you kept looks really cute on you! I’ve never heard of this, and it seems like a cool concept! I’m just so picky and boring I probably wouldn’t like anything they sent me though!
Heather @ Fit Mama Real Food says
Love the floral with skinny jeans! I’m so not fashionable… probably because my main attire is workout clothes. I love shopping, but I just have trouble spending money. I’m always trying to save. It’s a tough balance!
Ellie says
I love Stitch Fix! I’ve gotten four “fixes” so far. I’ve never kept everything (mostly due to my budget), but if you purchase all the items you get 25% off so it can be a good deal if you have the money and love all the items. Also, if you continue to use the service, I highly recommend giving specific feedback when you check out after you get each fix. I found that my fixes got better and better simply because I told my stylist what I like and don’t like. Love that floral top on you!
Brittany says
I fear the day that I like all 5 items! I’d have to go on a hiatus afterwards to refill my bank account 🙂 I’m excited that you say they keep getting better. I definitely let a lot of specifics!
Lauren says
What a fun idea! I’m going to check that out too. I hate shopping for clothes (I could also spend all day at the grocery store) but my husband loves to pick out stuff for me so we do that. I have about $350 in gift cards from birthdays that I haven’t used for clothing stores so we’re going to go and he’s going to help me out. Otherwise they just sit there unused!
Karen says
I have a love/hate relationship with clothes shopping. I tend to like shopping with my cousin as her and I have the same style and she will tell me exactly what she thinks about an outfit but I also love to shop by myself. I also tend to do a lot of online shopping.
Christina says
Love that floral top with skinny jeans! It’s a great outfit. I was wondering – what are your favorite “go to” stores for clothes? I tend to like a lot of the clothes you wear in pictures!
Brittany says
Aw, thanks!! That means a lot to me since I fear I have zero fashion sense. My go-tos include LOFT and Banana Republic. I’m short (5’1″) so anywhere I can get petite sizes is good for me.
Becky says
i LOVE clothes shopping – but we live in somewhat rural area which makes it hard to do lots of good shopping. I think this site will be AWESOME! Yay. Cute shirt, BTW.
Whitney says
ohh man I love going to the store and sifting through all of the clothes I could never have someone send me clothes to try! I prefer to spend more money on accessories such as handbags, jewelry, shoes,(& a good pair of jeans) and spend less on tops, dresses, etc. I love a good bargain!!!
Maria says
Oh my gosh, you look adorable in all of them and I love Hailey’s curiosity 🙂
Great pick on the shirt though! I love when they send me stuff that I would normally never choose myself or ever find in the standard stores I shop at (ON, GAP, LOFT). I have a gray blazer from Zara, but I find that I don’t get a lot of use out of it. I’m not a blazer kind of girl either I suppose.
I get my next box soon! Yay!
Elizabeth says
I love that blazer on you. And yes the one you decided to keep woks look awesome with som skinny jeans or tights.
Elizabeth says
I signed up but would love to know what style categories you picked because I want my fix to have similar stuff to what you got 🙂
Brittany says
I leaned towards classic/casual chic with a little bohmenian thrown in for fun 😉
Marci says
I am more into online shopping than i used to be before becoming a mom, but I don’t like the idea of a stranger picking out random non-brand name clothes for me, especially if I don’t know how a brand runs in sizes. I spend a lot of time at Gap and JCrew every season or so, online and in person, and then add special tops and pants I can mix or wear for Saturday nights.
Danica @ It's Progression says
I’m the exact same way – clothes shopping? meh. but shopping for food? yes please! 🙂
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
I tried Stitch Fix a couple of months ago. It was fun, but expensive! For example, the blazer in your first picture — they have (nearly) the exact same one at Target for half of the price! I might try it again for a special occasion, but it’s not something that I can afford to subscribe to every month.
Ashley says
So fun! I could definitely use this–currently living in a town with limited shopping options. And I love that first pic with you and Hailey–she already idolizes you.
Bethany says
A great concept! But totally out of my price range! I need the Old Navy and Target version, ha!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
Maria makes me want to do Stitch Fix, and now that YOU have done it…I feel like we all at least FEEL like we are fashion challenged and I am just kind of curious to see what they would pick out for me. 🙂
It is funny because when I look at these posts–yours and Marias–I can usually say “yep” or “nope” even before reading your own personal choice/thoughts. Maybe I can pick out clothes for other people and am just a failure when it comes to myself???
Kris says
I wish I’d read your post before I signed up for Stitch Fix (late last night) so I could have used your link. Right now I’m on the wait list. I don’t know that I’d actually buy anything, but I figure for the $20.00 styling fee it would be fun to try. I’m such a bargain shopper though — the majority of my clothes come from Ross, Old Navy or the BR Factory Store.
char eats greens says
I seriously just agreed with all the things you said about the tops!!! I love that floral one on your fo sheezie!!! And the others, it’s not you, it’s the tops! haha
This is SUCH a great idea because I definitely DON’T have style sense whatsoever. Miiiiiight need to try this out!
Kim @ Racing Bananas says
I had to come back and say THANK YOU for sharing Stitch Fix! After seeing your post, I shared with a friend and we both ordered from Stitch Fix, figuring why not try it out? I got my box today and love 4 of 5 things I received. Still need to try them on, but I”m so excited and have you to thank!
