Enjoy Five on Friday 9.27 for this week’s roundup of updates and favorites.
Good Friday morning; I’m praying for all those in the path of Hurricane Helene. I’ve seen some crazy wind, rain, and damage where we are here in Georgia and seen evidence of flooding and power outages online. Schools and businesses are closed. It’s all supposed to be moved out of here by midday so we’ll stay hunkered inside until then. Praying for those that are more deeply impacted by this strong storm.
In less important news, it’s officially fall! I feel like we are just getting into the spirit after passing a beastly virus around and then camping in West Virginia. But now we are in it to win it and watching Halloween movies, lighting fall candles, and baking apple cinnamon muffins. We are also watching Netflix’s Wednesday with the girls and they love it. I don’t necessarily recommend it for all, especially for sensitive kids because there are some scary parts, but for my teen and tween, it’s a fun step up in spooky fun and a whodunit mystery.

ONE: Welcome back, college football!
I haven’t even touched on one of my favorite things about fall on here yet- welcome back college football! There is something about the sounds of college game day that bring joy flooding into my heart. The girls love it as much as we do and there is something just so cozy about Saturdays. Plus… the snacks! My Georgia bulldogs have a big game tomorrow at Alabama. While Saban isn’t there anymore, seeing us struggle against Kentucky recently makes me a little nervous. Still, knowing we’ll all be cozied up on the couch together watching makes me so happy!
TWO: Moving Details
We are just about a month out from our proposed moving date, assuming this hurricane hasn’t caused any big damage. I’m starting to gear my brain up for lining up all the necessities for getting us plugged into our new community. We’ve signed the girls up for basketball, which is exciting, and now I’m working on establishing our caretakers. Having never moved as a family, a lot of this is new. Near the top of my list is finding a good chiropractor, an allergist, an orthodontist, and a hair stylist. Kind of a funny prioritized list, but we are sticking with our awesome direct primary care doctor back in Mooresville, so these are my main focuses right now. I’m in some local mom Facebook groups and I’m finding it to be a helpful resource for recs. If you’ve moved and have tips on making it a smooth process, I’m all ears.
THREE: House Build Update
Speaking of moving, how ’bout a little house update? We saw it a week ago and it’s SO exciting to see it coming along. We are now at the point where we can began ordering things we need, like new RO systems, Hailey’s new bed and sheets, and rugs!
First up, the kitchen! The backsplash was just installed and I love the look SO much. Our cabinets are quarter sawn oak on the perimeter and a cream on the island. I struggled the most with deciding on kitchen cabinets and I’m so in love with how they turned out. Also, we went with a large workstation sink and I was anxious to see if it felt too large. It does not. I can foresee myself using the heck out of this big ol sink!
The girls and I are anxiously awaiting settling into this playroom/homeschool space. There is a spot for each of them to have their desks and a large space in the center for a table for collaborative efforts and art. How nice it will be to put in some bookshelves to house our piles of homeschool supplies!
Finley’s room, AKA the space Hailey is most excited about. A couple months ago we decided to take an extra closet off the kitchen and turn it into a space for Finley to have a cozy bed, water, and toys. I’m hoping she’ll sleep here and it will also be a cozy place for her to hang out when people come to the door.
Then there is the screened-in porch, AKA the space David is most excited about! That snippet of the view is my absolute favorite, and what made us fall in love with the lot. We opted for a large fan and heaters because we plan on being out here all four seasons long!
I love this view with the arch into the kitchen and can’t wait to fill my pantry with food to cook for my family. The room on the right is what the builder named the “scullery.” It will be a spot to house all my small appliances and have an extra prep area, too. There is also an extra fridge, freezer, sink, and dishwasher in the space, which has me feeling both giddy and spoiled. The herringbone tile is titled “moss” and in the tile store looked green. Yet now that it is installed it now looks pretty gray.
FOUR: It’s Cozy Season
And these real wax taper candles bring such a soft glow and warm feeling to any room in your house. Last year I bought them as gifts for so many people (5 purchases according to Amazon) and they are at a fabulous price right now!
Pictured below at mom’s house right now with these holders and the viral stick-on bats.
FIVE: Recent Eats
Oh how I’ve enjoyed cooking lately! I really do get so much satisfaction out of feeding my family and right now with no sports practices to contend with, I have more time to enjoy it. Some of the most tasty foods we’ve been enjoying lately are:
- Lemon oregano chicken thighs with baked potatoes and easy green beans
- Ground beef tacos with Mexican slaw
- Mom’s spaghetti (ultimate comfort food)
- Greek chicken wraps
- Apple cinnamon oat muffins
What’s the best thing you’ve eaten lately? Are you feeling like it’s fall? Are you safe from the hurricane? I hope you have a great weekend full of whatever it is you need most at the moment <3

Absolutely love your blogs. It’s like reading a really good book. I always look forward to settling in and reading them.
Question? I see the girls like arts and crafts. I’m trying to get my girls into them (with little luck). What other things do your girls or other girls their age like to do like play or how do they occupy their time and stay off screens? My youngest girls are the same age and since my girls don’t have friends or family, they just keep wanting screen time. Any ideas or experiences that you could share? 🤗

Hi Sandrah; thanks so much for your kind words- grateful to have you here 🙂
Yes, my girls (especially H) LOVE crafts. Some of the favorites over the years include air dry clay, painting on canvases, Shrinky Dinks, 3d pen, Resin (but be warned, it’s sticky and a small learning curve), bracelet making, fancy lettering with fun pens, sewing, diamond art, knitting, and most recently- embroidery! We used beginner kits and it’s been really fun to learn together.

I love Finley’s area! It’s adorable. Just one of those wonderful things you can make happen when you get to build. I can’t wait to see the finished house when you’re all moved in!
