We were planning to forgo our annual ski trip, but Deer Valley had a kid ski free deal that we (OK, mostly I) couldn’t resist. So we booked it and fly out tomorrow! It’s a really short trip, but we are looking forward to skiing those majestic mountains and making the most out of nonetheless.
We visited Deer Valley in 2019 and again last year in 2021, and it feels like visiting an old friend now. We know the buildings and the routine and the lifts and the slopes. The kids are excited to do The Judge, the shortest lift on the mountain I swear, about a million times I have no doubt. I’m just excited to see the bear house! Before we jump into the weekend though, here are a few of my favorite things from the week… let’s start in the food category!
Food Favorites
In our crawlspace/home gym we have a deep freezer. Whenever I get my Butcher Box deliveries or Daily Harvest deliveries, I load them into there. Then I pull what I need up to the kitchen fridge. However, sometimes this leads to hidden surprises, like finding these Raspberry + Fig bites. They come 7 to a cup and the ingredient list reads: organic date paste, organic raspberries, almond flour, almond butter, organic coconut, organic fig puree, organic cranberry seeds, haskap berry powder, vanilla bean powder.
Most importantly, they are SO good. I’ve eaten one or two almost daily, alongside cottage cheese as a post workout snack. If you’re a Daily Harvest person and haven’t tried them yet, I highly recommend trying them!
And if you’re more in a savory mood and need some healthy dinner sides, their new Bakes are wonderful! Well, neither child was particularly wild about them (too many ingredients mixed together). But David and I both enjoyed the taste and so many nutritionally packed foods packed into a single side dish.
I also wanted to give a shoutout to my favorite meat thermometer. I’ve had it for years but don’t talk about it much. However, since I’ve started sharing my nightly dinner prep on Instagram, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about it. I use it every single day because I’m weird about meats. I want to make sure they are safe to consume, but not overcooked. Especially foods like pork tenderloin that are so easily dried out when cooked too long.
Fitness Favorites
I feel really strong right now and that feels really good. David and I are still following Madeline’s workouts exclusively. I’m still impressed how she switches things up so well each week, while still running through the same legs/upper body/cardio & core/back & chest/full body layout.
This week’s back and chest day was one of our all time favorites. It was HARD. And for the first time ever, my Lumen showed me from going to a 4 (mostly burning carbs) before the workout to a 1 (burning fat) after the workout. It was so cool to get proof of dipping into fat stores!
A few fitness related things we are loving lately include the adjustable dumbbells David got for his birthday (they’ve really helped him be able to push more by increasing the weight available to him), the pull up bar we have in our kitchen (we all hang on it several times a day for fun, but also to increase hand and arm strength and abs), and LMNT electrolytes.
I use the electrolytes after a hard workout or after using the sauna blanket (AHS for $75 off). However, we also use them when we go to higher elevations to combat altitude related issues. We have packed a bunch of packets for us to drink on the plane and the slopes!
Wellness Favorites
This post turned out way longer than I anticipated, but let me give a final two shout outs to things I’m loving lately. The first is my CBD soft gels and tea. If you are new to CBD, check out my post that breaks down the different delivery methods and how to choose the one that works best for you.
I’ve used this CBD brand for years and it’s wonderful to have around for days that feel overwhelming or as just as a nice way to wind down in the evening. On weeks like this when there’s a lot to attend to and I don’t want a glass of wine, CBD and tea makes the perfect 5:00 combination.
And finally, a philosophy I fully believe in and subscribe to. Dhru Purohoit is a favorite podcast of mine. He talks about physical health, mental health, and purpose, among other things. When he shared this on IG, it resonated with me. In a world that feels a little crazy right now, I still believe there are so many wonderful people out there, all doing there best and loving each other. Choose to see the good 💜
I hope you all have fantastic weekend and for those that follow on Instagram, I’m going to work on getting that Suzie’s chicken recipe I shared posted while I’m on the plane. Enjoy your weekend, friends!
