It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to hang out with my friends without keeping one eye on Hailey. Other moms understand this and so the broken trains of thought in conversation often go unnoticed. However, it’s hard to build a friendship when every time you get together the time is spent alternating diaper changes, feedings and running after the little ones. This is why a girls night out is so important. No, beyond important, it’s down right therapeutic.
But first, let’s rewind.
Breakfast was an egg scramble (which happens when you botch an omelet) filled with peppers, onions and mushrooms; topped with Pace salsa. Half of a peach and half of a banana on the side.
Lunch consisted of a Morningstar Farms spicy black bean burger (they truly are the best!) on a wheat deli thin, topped with guacamole, spinach and onion. Sting cheese and grape tomatoes on the side.
Pre yoga snack was black cherry Chobani (my favorite) topped with LOVE Grown granola and California walnuts.
Then, we yoga’d. I seriously love it. I love it even more because David yogas with me and we both laugh at each other when we attempt to jump into crow. (PS- check out Jen’s answers to my yoga questions!).
Afterwards I was all “namaste” until I hit the highway and smacked into stopped traffic. You know, the kind that doesn’t even inch forward. Between that and a hungry Hailey in the backseat I undid everything I accomplished in yoga and pulled my hair out begging for the cars to start moving. I’m horrible in traffic, really.
This made me late to girls night. Luckily, there was beer. Two, to be exact.
I met Susan, Cindi, Jenny and Emily at 300 East in Charlotte. It’s an adorable restaurant inside an old house in Dilworth. We ordered drinks and appetizers.
Pimento Cheese.
Guacamole.
Then I devoured the main event. Gorgonzola stuffed filet, medium rare, served with mashed potatoes, zucchini and squash. My picture turned out way too fuzzy to post. I guess I was focused more on digging in.
We talked about bucket lists, travel, real estate and laughed a lot. But it was important to remember that we’re our own people, too, beyond being moms. We shut the place down, got kicked out and decided to make it a monthly occurrence.
Sometimes you just need a girls night!
How often to you grab dinner with your girlfriends?
PS- if you are a mom, don’t forget to snap pictures of your child’s meals and link up to Munchkin Meals tomorrow! If you’re a fur-mom and your dog eats well, feel free to link up too

Yay for a night out! I had so much fun too! I was actually impressed that we didn’t just talk about our babies the entire night – was much needed!

I eat (and love!) the Morningstar black bean burgers too. Have you tried any other brands?
Brittany says
No, haha! I’m so hooked on the spicy black bean that I’m scared to venture out. Do you have any other recommendations?

I had SUCH a good time 🙂 I agree with Cindi – I am glad we mostly talked about non-baby stuff!

I’m meeting my friends for a girls night tonight! It used to be a monthly thing, then we all got too busy over the winter, then everyone was busy getting married all spring, so it’s appropriate that on the first day of summer, we’re finally picking up our tradition. You’re absolutely right, they are therapeutic.

I love girls nights! I don’t see my best friend too often, so I really cherish the times when we do see each other. Because of this, we’ve booked a trip with our husbands so we can have a Girls/Husband Weekend! It was on my Before Babies Bucket List 🙂

Girls nights are the best! Glad you got to enjoy one. I try to get out with my girlfriends at least once every couple of weeks! 🙂

Wahoo for girls night out!! Favourite night of the week for me! I don’t grab dinner too often with my girlfriends because a lot of them are still in the partying phase, so occasionally I’ll go to the bar with them, but we all know that’s no ladies night 😉 Haha my egg omelettes always turn out as scrambles, I just can’t perfect them!

Aww looks like you guys had such a great time!! We had another couple over last night, and we grilled out and just chatted on our back patio. It was really nice! 🙂

I have a girls night out too! I haven’t been since I had the baby, but we are all moms of babies under two and it’s important to us all!

I definitely miss GNO…as a mom of two little ones (2 and 5 months) and a husband who works late often, GNO’s are few and far between 🙁 catching up with friends is always hat no matter how sparse.
Sorry about your traffic experience…I have yet tomtry yoga, but I’ve had the same feeling after a massage…I hate when you waste a great opportunity for zen!
Oh, and I love the fur baby comment!
