I usually do these hour by hour posts on days Hailey is home, but 2 times a week, she goes to school in the mornings. She loves it and I don’t mind the extra few hours to spend how I need (want) to. I feel like yesterday was a rather mundane day, but I figure one day I’ll forget what those looked like and will like a trip down memory lane. So hour by hour with a little WIAW thrown in, here is yesterday…
6:30am – Get up, feed Koda, head to the computer.
7:30am- Check on Hailey. I see she’s still sleeping so I rush to finish up the last couple morning to-dos.
8:30am- Hailey is up and we eat breakfast together. She’s always in a great mood in the mornings and stops to come give me hugs between bites. I soak it up before eyeing the clock and realizing we need to get a move on if we’re going to make it to school.
9:30am- We made it! I decide to set up shop at Panera. I answer emails then write a pretty personal blog post. I shed a tear in public. How embarrassing. Contemplate whether I will ever post it or if writing it was just the therapy I was after.
10:30am- Grab Koda and head out for a walk while chatting on the phone with a friend. Fresh air and a good chat revived me.
11:30am- Oops. No picture. Rushing to get back home so I can go grab Hailey from school. Typical.
12:30pm- Lunch with my sweet little monster while she fills me in about school. In case you were wondering Gracie and Emory were there and they played and had snack.
1:30pm- After reading books and putting Hailey down, my pregnant feet are asking for some rejuvenation. I grab my Mexi-stuffed potato and kick up my feet, intending for a quick lunch. That turns into watching an episode of Hart of Dixie. I’m probably the only one who watches that teeny-bopper show, aren’t I?
2:30pm- Enough of feeling worthless, I decide to tackle the mundane… laundry, cleaning up, emptying the dishwasher, and other fascinating chores.
3:30pm- Check in on Hailey. Realize she never went to sleep. That explains the banging I kept hearing. I go get her up for a snack.
4:30pm- Deciding we must take advantage of the beautiful weather, Hailey and I meet up with our friends at a new (to us) park. Adult conversation and watching the girls play always makes for a pleasant afternoon!
5:30pm- Head back home. Hailey eats and plays with stickers while I prep mine and David’s dinner.
6:30pm- David tackles shower and jammie time while I take out the trash and check the mailbox with my furriest child.
7:30pm- Hailey crashes hard and we are ready for some grub. We chow down while catching up on each others’ days.
8:30pm- We realize our shows must be on a hiatus because nothing new is available via our Hulu Plus. We throw on a Shark Tank for fun. I check my Nike Fuel Band, which I am liking despite not really understanding most of the readings. I shrug it off and eat a ball of my mom’s frozen cookie dough.
9:30pm- In bed. With the snoogle. Fast asleep. I’m seeing if stockpiling sleep is a real possibility. I’ll let you know in May!
There it is, the exciting life of a suburban mom! I’m sure BRAVO will be banging down my door any minute, begging to be able to tape my life for a show. 😉
What time do you usually head to bed?
Even when I’m not pregnant, David and I usually go to bed at 10. I feel like we are the only ones!
blackhuff says
It depends on what my client list look like on a particular day and if clients cancel or not. But usually around 9pm for me and for hubby it’s much later.
Shari says
I love Shark Tank! Such an interesting show!
Haley says
I LOVE Hart of Dixie…true confessions. I don’t know why, but I can’t stop watching 🙂
Holly says
You are not the only ones in bed by ten! I am always asleep by then. Last night by 9:15 – but we are battling round 3 of the stomach bug so I was extra tired
Brittany Dixon says
Round 3 of the stomach bug?! Oh my goodness, I hope this is the last time for you. No one deserves that! Hope you feel better soon <3
Amanda @ All Day Active says
Sounds so much like our days…… 🙂 And YES — we are in bed early too — it is kind of sad when my in laws tell us we go to bed waaaay too early. Haha! I’m a total sucker for teeny-bopper shows too — LOVE Hart of Dixie 🙂
christina says
i really like hailey’s little blue & white plate!
Kristen@Change of Pace says
Our days look very similar! One of my kids goes to kindergarten but the other also goes two days a week to preschool. It’s nice to just have a couple hours to just breathe 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Yes! A few hours of not filling cups, getting dolls, changing diapers and answering questions is good for a mom’s sanity 😉
John J. says
You are not the only ones. “Early to bed, early to rise” makes for a healthy fulfilling day, I believe. (with an exception here and there, of course!)
Karen says
I LOVE LOVE Shark Tank!! Question: how did Hailey do with the bath/shower transition? We are moving next Friday and Keely will have her own bathroom but it’s a shower no bath except in our room, did she do well?
Brittany Dixon says
She transitioned us, haha! I let her shower with me one night when I was particularly tired and now she’s hooked. She loves to fill up spray bottles and play with them and now refuses to take a bath. I’m sure K will have no issues! 🙂 Good luck!
Karen says
I’ll try it…thanks!!
Lauren B. says
Um, yes, recently got hooked on Hart of Dixie. I now watch an episode (or two) during nap time. I think it’s funny!
Tina Muir says
Oh my god! You have a vizsla! My boyfriend and I hope to get one this summer! Would you recommend? She seems adorable!! Speaking of adorable, as are all of your pictures! I try to make it in bed by 10pm…..but when I only get out of my night classes at 9 three days a week, it can be tough!!!
Brittany Dixon says
Yes, we are vizlsa lovers around here! She is a great dog, despite a few recent acts of disobedience (jumping on the counter to eat food). She’s gentle as can be and has tolerated a whole bunch of annoyances from Hailey with ease.
However, they are a VERY ACTIVE breed. I have a lot of guilt right now because she needs more exercise than we are currently able to give her… and she is 6! Her first two years of puppyhood we took her to the dog park for an hour everyday. It was the only way to keep our sanity.
Great dog for runners, though! 🙂 Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions!
Monica says
For some reason I can’t stop watching Heart of Dixie! I don’t want to like it but I just do
Ali says
My bedtime has always been early. I feel like the past year with a baby, I go to bed about an hour after Aiden, so around 9. It’s early, but he’s sleep is so inconsistent, I never know what’s in store for me, so I, too, try to stockpile sleep. I’m not sure it works:(
Paulina says
I love hart of Dixie too. Its not really a teen show, the characters are all around 30 right? Lol. And I am usually I bed by 10 as well.
Brittany Dixon says
Haha, yes, the characters are all grown ups, but I feel like it’s a show I would be into when I was 16! Guess I’m still into it now, too 😉 Just glad that I’m not the only one!
Sara @ lifebetweenthemiles says
I LOVE Hart of Dixie, I don’t know why, but I can’t not watch it! My husband and I are always in bed by 10pm, even on the weekends.
Heather says
I am almost always asleep by 10:00 and often even earlier. Our 3 month old generally wakes up at least once in the middle of the night, though, so it’s helpful to get to bed on the earlier side. When I’m feeling really lazy, I crawl into bed to read or watch TV at 8:00. :p
Kimberly @ Healthy Strides says
I got to bed by 9:30 … on a good night. Then again, Miles is up at 5:30 a.m. these days.
I love, love, love the pic of Hailey after school.
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
I watched Season 1 of Hart of Dixie. I’ll most likely watch Season 2 on Netflix someday…lol.
I head to bed between 9-10 but don’t fall asleep until 10:30. David hardly ever comes to bed with me, sadly. He usually comes to bed around 11.
Brittany Dixon says
I got into it because of Netflix, too! David and I watch our shows together (1 TV= together time ;)), so I needed an option for a show I knew he wouldn’t watch for when he wasn’t around. Hart of Dixie it is!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
I love your sense of humor!! 🙂 Always makes me smile!
Jen says
Haha I’ve been trying to stockpile sleep, too! I’ve actually always been a morning person so I like that I have an excuse to go to bed early now.
Wyatt always tells me about his friends in school, too. Whenever I hear a new name I always check with his teacher to make sure it’s a real kid haha. So far, so good!
Jen@Twenty-Something&Starving says
Lol I’m in bed by 9:30 or 10 almost every night…pregnant or not. 😀
Tiffany says
When not pregnant, my bedtime is around 10pm (my husband is more of a night owl so he goes to bed much later!). While pregnant (i.e. now), I am in bed at 8:30 and usually have lights out by 9pm! I get up 2-3 times a night to pee so I figure I might as well go to bed early so my total sleep time ends up being enough!
P.S. Hailey is such a cutie and I love to hear what you guys are up to since my daughter is pretty close in age (she’s 2.5 now).
Brittany Dixon says
Oh congrats on your pregnancy!! I don’t know how I’m not up to pee during the night yet, but I’m enjoying each solid night’s sleep that I can because I know it’s coming 🙂
Tiffany says
That is so awesome that you don’t have to get up to pee at night! I have been up at least once a night since the 1st tri and it only got worse (now 36 wks). You should totally enjoy it and get as much sleep as you can while you still can!!!
Lauren says
Ugh I need to be more disciplined with going to bed earlier. What usually happens is I crash on the couch, procrastinate on getting ready for bed, then the next thing I know its 11:30 and I’m regretting it once again, especially in the morning. I’ve always been a night owl but long to be a morning person! I think I need someone keeping me accountable. My husband just falls asleep on the couch next to me so its not like he goes to bed early without me. Its like I’m a child who is saying “I don’t wanna go to bed!” Ridiculous. 🙂
April says
I love these posts! They make me feel normal. 😉
My husband and I go to bed by 10:00 usually… when I’m pregnant it’s more like 8:30!
I’m wondering… do you always feed Hailey before you and your husband eat? I have always tried to get all to eat at the same time. But I like the idea of having a quiet dinner with my husband after the kids are in bed (by 8:00). I guess what I’m wondering is what do you feed Hailey? Is it leftovers, or do you cook two meals?
Brittany Dixon says
Glad we aren’t the only ones in bed by 10 😉
Yes, right now we eat our dinners after she’s down 95% of the time. She goes to bed at 7, meaning bath starts at 6:30 and David is rarely home before then to all eat together.
Hailey’s dinners are usually really simple (you can check more out under Munchkin Meals http://www.ahealthysliceoflife.com/munchkin-meals/ or on instagram- instagram.com/ahealthyslice) and include leftovers from mine and David’s dinner the night before or whatever I happen to have in the fridge.
Family dinners are wonderful and important to me and I really hope to make them a regular thing when the girls are older, but for now, this works best for us!
Jennifer says
I’ve never commented before but I just have to say….I love Hart of Dixie!!! I’m a little worried that it’s on the way to cancellation since they’re moving it to Friday nights in March 🙁 I really hope they don’t! Though I don’t think this season was my favorite. I’ll keep watching though!
Oh and I try and be in bed by 9:30 as well. 5:30am comes early! I am also pregnant, 13 weeks along with baby #2 and baby #1 isn’t even a year old yet! ahh! So, I’m definitely tired 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Congratulations!! And you’re a rock star with your 5:30am wake up!
I hope you are feeling well! <3
Giselle@myhealthyhappyhome says
Definitely not the only ones in bed that early. Most nights I’m in bed between 9:00 – 9:30 and out by 10:00. I have a few personal posts typed up but sitting in drafts. Maybe I’ll publish, maybe not but it does feel better to get the words out 🙂
Heather @ What Does She Do All Day? says
We are always in bed between 9 and 9:30 and usually asleep by 10. Hubby gets up for work at 5 and I get up at 6 so we have to go to bed that early. (The other night I went to sleep at 8 after I almost fell asleep in Cupcake’s bed snuggling.)
Dana @ Abbott House Adventures says
I love these day in the life posts! I always try to be in bed by 10- I need my sleep haha.
Lauren says
RE: Your personal post — I write stuff like that all the time and though I don’t post it I feel better having put it into words for myself 🙂
Danica @ It's Progression says
Well I’m definitely intrigued about that blog post you wrote! And not that you have to share it, of course, but regardless, I know you’ll receive support/love/kindness about it.
And I’m a total early bird when it comes to bed (and waking up)…I usually am asleep around 10 and am up around 6.
Mrs FF says
YAY I thought I was the only one who watches Hart of Dixie 🙂 🙂
Bed it really depends on how my day went but it is usually somewhere between 10pm and midnight. And on some days I find myself ‘napping’ from 10 to 11pm then I can’t go to bed till 3am!!! Guess that’s one of the perks of being on maternity leave.
Marianne says
I love the idea of an hour by hour post. Just found your blog through comments on PB Fingers. Love it already! And don’t worry – I’m 20 years old and go to bed at 10 usually!
Nan says
Your day sounds great to me! I always think its interesting to hear about other’s days! And… your mom’s frozen cookie dough?? Yum! Is that real cookie dough or some sort of egg-less recipe?
Brittany Dixon says
It’s real cookie dough! I know, a total pregnancy no-no ;), but after I saw Hailey and my mom eat it while they were baking and turn out fine, I risked it!
Lindsay says
I’m in bed between 8am-10pm usually closer to 8pm right now. I blame pregnancy and busy and long days with a toddler.
Meghan says
My hubby and I are in bed by 10 too and I am not pregnant! I don’t function well on less then 7 hours of sleep, and since I teach 3rd grade I need to be nice in the morning.
Simi says
I absolutely LOVE Hart of Dixie!! it is just so sweet!
staci says
Okay so I’m now 11 weeks pregnant and sleeping is getting very uncomfortable already. I’ve read mixed reviews on the pregnancy pillows and saw several reviews that the snoogles have gone flat after a few months of use. I can’t justify spending $60 for a pillow that will just go flat so have you had any issues with your pillow or is it still going strong, err firm? Thanks!
Brittany Dixon says
I used my snoogle last pregnancy and this one and have had no issues with it going flat. I’ve even washed the whole thing a couple of times! I can’t speak for others, but it’s been a game changer for me. I love it!
And congratulations! 🙂
