I know I’ve mentioned it a lot, but Kaitlyn (14 months) is a petite little thing. She’s growing and healthy, but I always take into consideration getting her the biggest calorie and nutrient-dense bang for each bite when I plan her meals (like I wrote about here).
Recently I discovered that she loves tuna salad and I was thrilled! Full of healthy fats and protein, it’s great option to make and share with her at lunch time.
I used to just mash all the ingredients together until the somewhat incorporated, but now I’ve discovered a ridiculously quick and easy way to put tuna fish salad on her plate in under three minutes.
Since I share this dish with a small mouth consisting of only 6 teeth, I stick the basic 3 ingredients- 1 can of tuna fish, mayonnaise and sweet relish.
I use the entire can of tuna plus 1 Tbsp each of mayo and relish when I’m making it for just me, but when I make it for Kaitlyn I end up making it closer to 2 Tbsp each of mayo and relish. I toss the ingredients in my mixer with the paddle attachment then switch it to medium speed.
In less than 15 seconds, the tuna salad is mixed well and at perfect consistency.
If serving exclusively for adults, I’d mix in some finely chopped celery for a good crunch, but this three ingredient version is perfect for little hands.
And for me, I like this simplified version sandwiched between cucumber slices for a healthy, protein-packed low carb quick lunch option.
Close enough.
Are you a tuna fish salad fan?
What do you put in yours?
What are some creative ways that you use your mixer?

I’m curious how you used to make it because this is how I’ve always made it. LOL Except I add chopped egg. It’s never the same without the egg.

Haha, I’m probably just a slow learner 😉 I used to just mix it as well as I could with a fork, which was fine, but the mixer makes a better texture for the baby!

I love tuna salad – when I make it myself. Tuna salad at deli’s is a total fat bomb. I like to put tuna on top of a green salad but sometimes I get tired of salad – the cucumber sandwiches are the best alternative ever! This will most likely become a staple in my house quickly.
My son will eat the tuna patties that I make and cook up in a skillet. I remember you posted something similar with Salmon a long time ago – that’s where I got the idea! 😉
Brittany Dixon says
Yes I love making little patties! I don’t usually think of doing it with tuna though, so thanks for giving me the idea. Definitely trying that next time 🙂

I use non-fat plain greek yogurt, yellow mustard, diced red onion, celery and hard boiled egg. I don’t love it in sandwiches and when I get bored with salad, I will treat it like a dip with wheat thins and veggies for scooping 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Love the idea of diced red onion to give it some zing!

I love tuna salad! So I was thrilled recently when I learned that my little girl loves it too! Mine is even simpler – I mix a can of chunk white tuna in water (drained) with a few TB’s of Wegman’s veggie hummus. I spread it on a few multigrain crackers and she scarfs it up 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
So smart- hummus! I am going to try that too. Simpler the better 😉

You can also use your mixer to shred chicken that’s been boiled. It’s so much easier than doing it with a couple forks!
Brittany Dixon says
Yes! That is on of my favorite time saving tips!

I love tuna and chicken salad! I like adding celery and apples for a little crunch. 🙂

Haven’t tried this with tuna, but we’ve been loving the Wild Planet salmon for a quick salad topper. Love the cucumber sandwich idea.
We mix ours with lemon and olive oil. Might try caramelized onions, too.

I love tuna salad! I use your ingredients plus celery and a dab of honey mustard 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Mmm…honey mustard! Yes please!

Tuna is my favorite fish! I am not fan of salmon, which seems to be the favorite choose for most people. I’ll never turn down tuna though! My mom, ever since I was little, would make tuna salad with mayonnaise, hardboiled eggs, and tuna. Super simple and it has always been my go-to for an easy sandwich! 🙂
