In less than a month, we’ll be singing happy birthday to my sweet girl. Although in some ways it seems unreal that a year has passed, in other ways, it’s obvious in how much Hailey has changed.
She’s no longer a helpless, sleepy infant. She’s busy, opinionated and most importantly, happy. But man, is she into things!
When she isn’t opening and emptying drawers, Hailey is busy climbing up and down stairs (up is much more graceful than the belly flop down)
Sometimes when she is crawling away, we’ll pull her knees out from under her, pulling her backwards on her tummy. That always gets us the biggest belly laughs!
She’ll also crawl over and lay her head on me, or lay her head on mine and David’s shoulder when we hold her. It melts my heart. She loves her play room (in progress) and will sit for quite a while turning pages in a book and babbling to herself.
Speaking of babbling, she’s starting to pay closer attention to grown up talk. She copies the inflection I use when I speak. Her favorite word is dada. She rarely, if ever, says mama. Tear. I’ve heard her say nigh nigh (night night) a couple times and when she gets overly tired she says knee knee knee. I have no idea why.
She points at everything and will point to my nose when I say Noooooooooose. She has waving mastered and waves hi and bye. When we drive in the car, I’ll catch her eye in the mirror and she’ll burst into a smile and wave to me. Makes my day. And Koda? Pup doesn’t stand a chance. Hailey loves her!
Flattering picture, no?
She has some stranger anxiety when it comes to people holding her, but at the grocery store she laughs and smiles at everyone. She also prefers to sit sideways in the cart.
We recently made the switch from four nursing sessions a day to three. Luckily, it was seamless. Now she gets an afternoon snack instead. She is eating 3 hearty meals a day, too. Her favorite food is what I affectionately call “bright”. Whether it’s tomatoes or sweet potatoes or carrots- whatever is brightly colored is always the first to go. She hasn’t met a food she doesn’t like yet. Hope it stays that way.
She goes to bed at 7pm and sleeps until 7-8am. We tried to switch to 1 nap, but it was too much. Now we’re stuck in this odd in-between area where her nap timings are off. I’m just along for the ride.
She’s currently cutting FIVE teeth. At once. It hasn’t messed with her nighttime sleep at all, though I imagine it’s what started the nap mix ups. After these 5 pop through, she’ll have 4 upper and 3 lower teeth.
I vow to take more pictures with a real camera this month and not as many with my iphone.
Ok, down to my final two notes (I know these get long; I’m sorry!) Hailey hates getting her diaper changed. I’m not sure if it’s the break in playtime or having to sit still, but boy, does she scream!
Also, I need to figure out what to do with all her hair. Is there a mommy and me class to learn how to style toddler hair? And heck, mommy hair, too, while we’re at it?
Hailey keeps me busy and I find myself wondering what I used to do with all my time, but I’ve never had more fun than I do chasing our sweet girl around. Her slobbery, open mouthed kisses on my nose are my favorite thing in the whole wide world. Love you, baby girl!

Awww 🙂 For the record, I love the picture of her and Koda on the floor. So cute 🙂

I love how she reached so many milestones and how proud you both are of her.
She looks so happy and I congratulate her on being 11 months old 🙂
Erica says
SO adorable.

My baby just turned 1 last week – it is bittersweet for sure. He is also anti-diaper changing. I find that giving him a snack to hold on to helps keep him still just long enough to get the job done.
I like your bookshelves – where did you get them?
Brittany says
David actually built them! If you google “front facing bookshelves” you can find some tutorials. H loves pulling every single book off of them 🙂
Jessie says
Can I please fly to you guys & babysit her for a day??
Brittany says
Anytime, Jessie! I just know she would love you 🙂
Jessie says
Ah, if only tickets weren’t ridiculously expensive!!
Stefanie says
I love that picture of her and David. That’s priceless.
What’s wrong with taking iPhone pictures? The cameras on these phones are just as good (and in some cases better) than a point and click camera!
Jessie @ Graze With Me says
Such a big girl! It goes way too fast. I’m with you on the hairstyling, I just put Lyric’s in a top ponytail ala Pebbles. Her barrettes look stupid now since she has all these cowlicks…
Glad she’s such a good eater, that’s awesome. I love the ‘bright’ reference. Lol.
Brittany says
I love the pics you post of Lyric’s hair in a top ponytail! I haven’t attempted it with H’s hair yet because I can’t get her to sit still, darn it!

What a beautiful little girl! I thoroughly enjoyed reading your update. Not too long in my opinion:-).

Happy 11 Months Hailey! She is too cute. I love that pic of her in the bassinet, really puts into perspective just how much they change and grow.
M hates diaper changes too, and putting on clothes/pjs. Its always a battle. : )

Ahhhh I can’t even believe our babies are almost 1, I feel like Kherie has changed so dramatically over the last few weeks it’s hard to believe she was ever the tiny helpless little thing we brought home from the hospital. She is also into EVERYTHING, which makes our days pretty non-stop, but fun at the same time. She is super vocal and her favorite new thing to do everytime she sees me is “hi momma” pretty sure I giggle and my heart melts every time. They really aren’t lying when they say that first year goes fast, I was honestly even having a hard time remembering what those first few weeks were like, that part seems like such a blur now and I feel like once we get in any sort of routine, we are onto the next thing 🙂
Brittany says
She says Hi Momma???? Oh, I’m so jealous. Tell me how to teach that to Hailey! She barely even says momma!
And yes, I can’t BELIEVE that our girls are almost 1. Crazy!
Katie@PopCultureCuisine says
I don’t really know, she has said momma for awhile, but if it makes you feel any better she calls just about anyone momma haha. I think it is largely due to the fact that between me and her babysitter she is around women more than men. Sometimes she even calls my hubby momma and he will look at her and go dada and she will just giggle haha. It has just been within the last couple of weeks that I know she sees me and knows I am momma, so not going to lie that makes me feel good.

I LOVE the month-to-month updates! Never too long in my opinion. My daughter is 1 month younger than yours and I like having a small “glimpse” into the future. I love to see & hear about what other little ones are up to.
Nothing better then a girl with her pup! So adorable!
Brittany says
I just went over to read your blog and it sounds like Addison and Hailey crawl the exact same way! It’s so cute, isn’t it?
Stephanie says
Her crawling technique cracks me up! She reminds me of Mowgli from the Jungle Book! I’m not sure if she’ll learn to put the other knee down and crawl like a “normal” baby or put the other foot up and be a primate!
Kelly @ Runmarun says
So cute…and just one more month until a year? How is that possible? Every time I see your monthly update posts, I realize I’ve got a little over a week before L is at the next update as well…time flies…
She is such a little sweetie- such cute pictures of her and Koda!
Good for you for taking such a positive, flexible approach to her naps being all over the place. L is in the same position but I don’t think she is ready for one nap yet, either.
Have a good day!
Liz @ IHeartVegetables says
Oh my gosh she is SO beautiful! You guys must be proud parents 🙂
Lisa says
I always look forward to these monthly recaps! She is absolutely beautiful!!
Jen says
SO precious! Haha honestly, one reason I’m glad I have a boy is because I don’t really have to deal w/ hair and fashion. I’m so appearance-challenged myself, so I know my poor daughter would have suffered. 😉 Hailey always looks incredibly adorable though, so you’re doing a great job!
Christie says
Oh man, the hair issue!!! Lord knows we had it over here too. I found that bow clips worked best for keeping the hair out of her face, but rarely did they stay in (she would pull them out). We’re finally to the stage where I can fit most of it into a pony, or at least pig tails, but she likes her hair down best (she will pull out the pony tail holders). The biggest problem with that is that when she was younger she barely had any hair, so I would brush what she did have forward- all the hair on the top of her head will only go forward, resulting in hair constantly being in her face. it drives me nuts for her!
Chantal says
How sweet! My baby has massive amounts of hair, and always has. Check out my blog and you’ll see! I have no idea what to do with it, though. I brush it and put a bow in it… but that’s pretty much it. Creative, I know.
Katie @ Legally Fit says
I have the same hair issue! Audrey’s hair is crazy long in the front since that part of her baby hair never fell out. I’ve resorted to a side front pony but that’s really all I have, haha. I am terrible at styling my own hair (wash and wear!) so I need to learn some tips for A. And man, the diaper changes have gotten terrible. I think she hates lying on her back at this stage because she wants to be up and seeing everything.
H is so adorable and I love all of the pics. The shopping cart one is hilarious! I resolve to take more pics with my nice camera this month too! Can’t believe our girls will be one soon!
Ksenija @ Health Ninja says
She is really just adorable. Posts like this make my heart melt and the idea of me being a mummy one day seeming way less absurd…
Samntha @ Health, Happiness & Skinny Jeans says
She is such a sweet and happy looking baby!
I read a really interesting article the other day about why babies have “stranger anxiety” and it brought me right back to first-year psychology. Object and people permanence…I can’t believe I forgot about that!! Its so remarkable how their little brains grow and develop. Anyway, it made me think of you because you’d mentioned it before in a Tweet 🙂

gaah! I love her! She’s so sweet.
