Looking for gift ideas for 6 year old girls? You’re in the right place! Six is such a fun age. She’s reading her first chapter books, asking a million questions and still loves a good game of pretend. This list is a blend of gifts my girls owned and loved at this age and gifts I’ve given to the six-year-olds in our life since.
I sorted everything by interest, from craft kits and science kits to board games, books and cozy picks, so it’s easy to find the right present for a 6th birthday, Christmas or just because. Play is how kids this age learn (the American Academy of Pediatrics has a great section on the power of play), so most of these ideas are hands-on and screen-free. And while gifts certainly do not make or break a special day, it sure is fun to see a child light up with joy at a great gift!

The Best Gift Ideas for 6 Year Old Girls
Craft Kit Gift Ideas for 6 Year Old Girls
Fairy Potions Craft Kit
My kids love creating their own potions from nature or from kitchen ingredients, so when I bought this one for Kaitlyn, I had no doubt that tiny bottles and fairy-like ingredients would have her head over heels.
Sticky Mosaics
My favorite kind of craft kit because it keeps the child busy for a long time pulling and sticking stickers, it creates a beautiful mosaic in the end and there is no mess! This mermaid set is a sweet one, and there are lots of other designs if she has a favorite animal.
Cardboard Fairy Tale Castle
Both my girls had such fond memories of the cardboard playhouse they had when they were three. Those are so cool, but made for younger kids, so a castle fort she can color and decorate herself is a great compromise for a six-year-old.
STEM Gift Ideas for 6 Year Old Girls
Six years old is a great age for science gifts. They’re curious about everything, and a kit you can do and then put away means no extra clutter!
Grow ‘N Glow Terrarium
Another item I can personally vouch for, this terrarium is a win/win. It’s first a fun craft to put together and decorate, then it stays a hit for the next few weeks as the kids rush to it each morning to see how much it has grown. This gives a lot of bang for its buck!
Light-Up Gel Ant Farm
You want a gel-based ant farm because it eliminates the need to feed the ants and it’s really easy to see their activity! Just know that the ants usually aren’t in the box, so plan to gift the farm and then order the ants. We’ve done this before and it was a huge hit, but be aware of the timing.
Break Open Geodes
Kids love cracking these open to find the crystals inside. The box says ages 8 and up, so plan on a grown-up helping with the hammer part.
LEGO, Building and Pretend Play
LEGO Disney Princess Cinderella Castle
My girls have built a lot of LEGO sets over the years, and I can vouch that they love putting them together and then play with the characters in the settings for long amounts of time! This castle is a great first princess set at a really good price.
Walkie Talkie Set of Three
Walkie talkies have been a big hit for us for years. Having three really helps to include friends and cousins, and this set is rechargeable, so you aren’t buying batteries every week.
Kids Digital Camera
When Kaitlyn was six, I didn’t think she was ready for a camera that prints (she’d fly through the paper!), so a durable digital camera sized for smaller hands was a perfect fit. If your girl is ready for prints, this kids instant print camera is a fun upgrade.
Board Games for 6 Year Olds
One of my favorite gifts to recommend is a family board game! Six is the age when kids can really start playing along with the whole family, which makes games some of the best gift ideas for 6 year old girls.
Spy Alley Junior
If your kids are into spies or detectives, this is a fun and easy to play game for young kids. Kaitlyn adored this simple kids version, and the full version of Spy Alley is great once she’s a little older.
Sum Swamp
Perfect for kids just getting into addition and subtraction. Both my girls loved playing this one. Also check out: Best Math Games for Grades K-2.
Sequence for Kids
No reading required, so it’s easy for younger siblings to join in too. It’s a quick game with just enough strategy to keep grown-ups interested.
Clue Junior
A kid-friendly mystery game with no scary parts. Great for the little detective who loves solving puzzles.
Catan Junior
A pirate version of the classic strategy game that’s simple enough for six-year-olds and still fun for the whole family.
Book Gift Ideas for 6 Year Old Girls
The Circus Ship
If you aren’t familiar with Chris Van Dusen, let this book be your introduction! This is one of our most favorite picture books. It rhymes, has a cute story and both girls love searching for the hidden animals at the end.
Ada Twist, Scientist
Ada’s head is full of questions, and in this sweet rhyming story she thinks her way through problems and experiments gone wrong. It’s a fun book to read with a great message for kids, like its companions Rosie Revere, Engineer, Iggy Peck, Architect and Sofia Valdez, Future Prez.
King & Kayla Series
This sweet beginner chapter book series follows a girl and her dog as they solve mysteries and make the reader laugh out loud.
Mercy Watson Series
Mercy Watson is a cheerful and adventurous pig that captures the hearts of kids through her antics. The illustrations are incredibly fun and engaging, which makes it an excellent choice for early chapter books.
The Princess in Black Series
Adventure, secret identities and monsters (not scary ones) make this series a fun read for both boys and girls. These have been a favorite in our home for years.
Magic Tree House Box Set
A box set of books 1-28 that she can grow into. These are perfect for reading aloud together now and reading on her own soon.
Music and Outdoor Gifts
Beginner Ukulele Kit
Better quality than guitar toys, a ukulele is the perfect size for young kids to hold and play music on. This beginner kit comes with a bag to keep it protected and free online lessons to get her started.
WOOM Bike
We love our WOOM bikes because they are so lightweight while still being incredibly durable. The gears and hand brakes are smooth and easy to operate for little hands. Bikes are sized by height, so check their size chart before you buy.
Cozy and Personal Gift Ideas for 6 Year Old Girls
Cozy and personal gift ideas for 6 year old girls tend to be the ones they hang on to the longest.
Cozy Robe
It’s so helpful to have a cute, fuzzy, warm robe to throw on to come down to breakfast on a cold morning. My girls often end up wearing theirs all day long when we’re in the house, and it keeps me from having to crank the heat up!
Personalized Photo Locket
A gift Hailey asked for again and again at this age? A locket with a family picture inside. This one holds photos and can be personalized, which makes it a sweet keepsake.
Diary With Lock
Around this age, Hailey loved drawing or writing about her days in a notebook before bed. A special diary with a lock (and a fancy pen!) makes it feel extra grown-up.
Stocking Stuffers for 6 Year Old Girls
Magic 8 Ball
A classic that has proven to be a big hit at our house. Expect a lot of silly questions!
Piggy Paint Nail Polish
Non-toxic and low-odor kids nail polish, so you can do a mini manicure without the harsh smell.

Experience Gifts
Looking for non-material gifts? Every mom will tell you how wonderful tickets or annual passes to a kids’ museum, zoo or other local activity are to receive. A membership gives you a reason to get out of the house all year long, and it’s one of my favorite gift ideas for 6 year old girls who already have plenty of toys.
Gift Ideas for 6 Year Old Girls: Common Questions
What are good gift ideas for 6 year old girls?
Think about what she’s into right now. Craft kits, beginner board games, early chapter books and small LEGO sets are all great picks at this age because they match where six-year-olds are: building reading and math skills and loving imaginative play.
What do you get a 6 year old who has everything?
Go for gifts that get used up or create a memory: a science kit, a craft kit, a book series or an experience like museum passes. They’re fun on the day and don’t add to the toy pile.
