If you’re a reader of my friend, Julie’s, blog, then you know she posts this exact same post title just a few days ago (you can read her currently post here!). Call me a copycat, but I just love a fun currently themed post, so I’m snagging the topic and would love for you to play along in the comments with your own peek into what’s going on currently for you!
Currently Reading: Fiber Fueled by Dr. Will Bulsiewicz I am always drawn to books I can learn from over novels (unless it’s a Kristin Hannah book), and when Gina (from Running to the Kitchen) recommended this one, I hopped on over to Audible to buy it. I’m just getting started with it, but am already enjoying learning more about the power and intricacies of our gut microbiomes!
Currently in the Market for: curtains, rugs, and pillows. Something about the new house is making me feel free to experiment with décor. I want to make our new place feel like home, but don’t want to spend much. I dig the earthy, natural feel. Any recommendations on where to search? I also am scouring Facebook marketplace for a used Barbie Dreamhouse. The girls have been selling toys and saving money for one!
Currently Drinking: Coffee, a ton of tea, wellness shots, vodka + La Croix, and water. Not all at once, of course.
Currently Craving: A night out with David. Restaurants here are open, but I’m not wild at the idea of sitting inside them currently. Since it’s 190 degrees out lately, sitting outside doesn’t sound very appealing either. I just want to book a corner table at Kindred and indulge in courses of incredible food with a barkeep choice cocktail to go with it. But until then, we’ll save some bucks and eat homemade pizza on the couch. Not a bad consolation prize.
Currently Watching: David and I haven’t been able to find a good show for months. We re-watch an episode of Arrested Development before bed each night for a giggle, but every show we’ve tried has been pretty disappointing. If you have anything that can rival Game of Thrones, send it to your girl please!
Currently Anticipating: moving. Last week was really stressful because our buyers had to back out of our contract. I’m leaving details out because it’s a tough situation for all involved. We put our home back on the market last weekend and were back under contract by Monday. I’m incredibly grateful for that. We should be able to still work it out for the house we are purchasing, but it’s been a bit of a stressful situation. Looking forward to things running smoothly from here on out and getting settled in the new house by mid-August.
Currently Wishing for: I don’t mean for this to sound like a pageant answer, but I’m currently wishing for a world full of more kindness, love, compassion, and understanding. Luckily I find when I don’t read the news and concentrate on real people instead, I see a lot more of it.
Currently Indulging in: making boat reservations. With the anticipation of our move off the lake, we sold our boat and joined a local boat club. It gives us access to booking a wide variety of boats and though we’ve only been members a short time, we sure are enjoying trying out the different kinds of boats- tritoons, wake boats, speed boats, and more. The girls are also becoming quite the tube lovers!
Currently Feeling Blessed by: my community. I’ve been feeling really grateful for my family and my friends. I feel blessed at how much I’ve gotten to see family lately and blessed by great friends that are so much fun to talk to and be with. We all need community and I’m very grateful for mine, both in person and online.
Currently Pondering: which books we should line up for our fall read alouds. It is taking us a long time to get through Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The girls and I are loving it, but it’s a longer read than the first three because I go slowly and use my best voices to keep Kaitlyn engaged and following along. After we finish this one, I want to move onto some shorter options. I took the quiz on the Read Aloud Revival website (an amazing resource!) and it suggested The Wild Robot. Anyone read that? What books have you read aloud with your kids and loved?
Currently Looking Forward to: seeing my family. We are planning on getting together soon on what would have been my Grandma Betty’s 100th birthday. We lost my grandma and my dad within a few months of each other and having that happen during a global pandemic is just salt in the wound. It feels incredibly hard to figure out a way to say goodbye or create some closure without the ability to travel much or hold a celebration of life ceremony.
In lieu of that, we are doing the best we can and having a (very) small gathering (just my immediate family plus my aunt and cousin) at mom and dad’s house to celebrate Grandma Betty in a way that would suit her best- a vodka drink, chips and onion dip, a giant Swiss cheese, card playing (she was a life master of bridge), and being together sharing our favorite memories of happy times.

My son is 7 and loved The Wild Robot. There is a second book also. He liked all the Roald Dahl books too
Brittany Dixon says
Oh good to know; thank you! We’ve loved Roald Dahl too 🙂
Lauren Burgan says
If you loved Game of Thrones, you should try the show Yellowstone. My husband’s co-worker recommend it to us and we love it! We think of it as a modern western version of GoT. Even the theme song sounds similar. Very good!
Brittany Dixon says
Thank you! I haven’t heard of that one so that excites me 🙂
Jennifer Niemeyer says
I was going to suggest that too! Just plan to watch it once your girls are asleep.
Karen says
The Wild Robot (and its sequel) are great. We’ve also read aloud the Chronicles of Narnia, the Arabel and Mortimer series by Joan Aiken, and The Rescuers. All big hits.
Brittany Dixon says
Thank you for these! 🙂
Brianna says
Another vote for The Wild Robot! My 8 year old loves it. So glad to hear you were able to get your house under contract again so quickly. The buying while selling process is the pits.
Brittany Dixon says
Yes, it’s been quite the process (selling and buying). I’ll be grateful when it’s behind us 🙂
Erika says
My son (8) read Wild Robot and the second book in his class year and loved it. I didn’t have to read it because he would tell me everything about it in great detail 🙂 Our library also just read it too and would post the videos online for kids to listen to. We haven’t started it yet but I got The One and Only Ivan to read together.
I did not watch GOT but I know a lot of people got into it. Some series we have watched together (old and newer): Sons of Anarchy, Yellowstone, Breaking Bad, Vikings, and Outlander (the last two I feel would be closest to GOT).
Brittany Dixon says
I’ve heard such great things about The One and Only Ivan! It’s on our list, too. Thanks for the show recs!

I watched outlanders when dave was away for work in 2019 & loved it – there are a bunch of seasons. David might go for it…. hard to say. Ozarks? Might be too much gore for you though.
ReMind me to tell you about HP ….
Laura says
I agree about the books! The problem I have with novels (good ones) is they suck me in so much that I actually feel detached from my real life, whereas non fiction typically inspires me. My husband and I realized there were a bunch of good shows from the mid 2000s that we never watched, and while normally I love a good crime drama like Ozark, we’ve enjoyed all of Parenthood and now started Friday Night Lights (might be the closest thing we get to a “normal” fall school sports season this year). I love West Elm for their decor, but admittedly don’t often want to spend that much, and use it more for inspiration when scouring antique malls, estate sales, and thrift stores, looking for the real deal that is so often (and cheaply) replicated these days. My best advice for home decor is to “give the home time to introduce itself” (quote, Under the Tuscan Sun- great movie!). I am a huge fan of decorating according the the home’s style/ time period. We have a 1959 mid century home, and I have really enjoyed finding mid century pieces over the years to complement it. Anything from the late 50s- late 70s fits our home like a glove. Bright and rich greens, oranges, yellows and browns pop against the white walls and dark wood beams. I tried more of a blue palette when we first moved in (luckily mostly second hand, so not a lot of money wasted), and it was honestly disastrous and never looked right or fit the home. Our dining table was our first big splurge (Lane Acclaim mid century, actually made the same year the house was built), but I’m convinced now 8 years later there would not be a more perfect match (and, even at 60 years old, it is constructed so well it still appears brand new). It took me 3 tries to get our sliding door curtains right- from a box store beige that was so generic it pretty much absorbed into the walls, to a trendy cactus print that looked out of place and cheap, and finally a $3 vintage 70s sheet found at the local thrift store, sewn into curtains, that has just the right amount and right type of style with an orange and brown Scandinavian inspired print on bright white. Anyhow, whatever the style/ age of your new home, I would take time to find pieces here and there that call to you. It’s not the fastest method, but I’m convinced the best, especially if you plan on staying for awhile. Not sure if this advice is helpful, but home decor is something I’m passionate about!
Brittany Dixon says
That is such great house advice; thank you! I will have to take it. I’m so wanting to make it feel cozy and like ours for the fall, but it’s a smart idea to at least wait until we move in- ha 🙂 It’s a newer home (our current is about 20 years old and the new one is about 5), so that’s something for me to consider, too. Your home sounds lovely! <3
Mary says
We have really liked the show Ozark and while dark, you may like it for the thrilling element! (I imagine it has those two things in common with Game of Thrones though I have never seen that show!) also – The Americans is excellent!
I highly recommend Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo as a read-aloud 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Oh thank you; Kate DiCamillo is such a wonderful author! I haven’t read that one though 🙂
Amy says
We love The Blacklist series on Netflix!
Nicole says
I just watched The order and it’s a good sci-fi show.
Brittany Dixon says
Thank you for the show rec! 🙂
Lauren Brennan says
Love love love Read Aloud Revival! My boys and I currently reading her kids’ book club pick, Tuesday’s at the Castle, and we are really enjoying it. We also have been flying through the Little House on the Prairie series, which is a big hit too.
Have you read Read Aloud Family by Sarah Mackenzie? I bet you’d enjoy it- it’s so inspiring!
Lindsay says
If you have Amazon Prime … you MUST check out the show Fringe! So many seasons and such a cute show! Check it out and let me know what you think.
Also, I am in the process of purchasing my FIRST home and I am seriously trying to figure out all of the decor things BUT as the house is still under construction and won’t be completed till the end of the month I won’t be closing for a few weeks and then after that I will have to figure out all of the inside details but I am wanting to be patient and see what works in the space AFTER I have moved in. Well besides blinds and appliances which I have already ordered. 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Ah! Excited for you and your new home!! And thanks for the show rec, too 🙂
Heather says
We’ve dined inside Kindred a couple of times and they are very on point for being safe. The servers are all masked and the tables are spread out.
Brittany Dixon says
Oh really?? Thank you for that info! Now I’m tempted to book. 🙂
Alyssa says
My mom read us “the last of the really great whangdoodles” at night for a week or two.. it is still one of my favourite books and one I can’t wait to read to my girls when they aren’t 3 and 18 months 🙂 I have such great memories of her reading that and doing all sorts of different voices!
Whitney says
We loved Money Heist on Netflix. It was so good! I have several friends who loved it as well!
Brittany Dixon says
I’ll check it out- thanks!
Paige says
We have been watching Outlander. It’s one of the few shows both my husband and I enjoy. The first few seasons are on Netflix and the rest are on Starz. The big lesson of 2020 for me is to hold my plans loosely – which is a big lift for me – but I’m being forced to learn it. 😂
Taylor says
My husband and I just finished watching Timeless on Hulu. There are only two seasons, so it’s not a huge time commitment, but if you love history (I do!), then this show was super fun!
Brittany Dixon says
I do love history, so I’ll have to check that out. Thanks!
