I’m a kind-hearted person, really I am, but sometimes I find myself doing things I’m sure only mean parents would do.
Like… letting H wiggle/squeak in bed a little longer than normal while I make myself breakfast.
2 egg omelet with peppers, onions, mushrooms, spinach and mozzarella. Topped with some Pace salsa. Mmm!
Good parents probably secretly buy their children presents for Christmas to surprise them on Christmas morning.
Bad parents strap their child on and buy them bottles and other necessities for Christmas while the child is right there. I’m the latter.
Homemade lemon chicken orzo soup (from this mock Panera recipe) and some hummus.
Good parents probably don’t make their child fight to sit up in the bumbo while they make themselves MORE to eat.
Romaine, quinoa, sauteed onions and peppers, guacamole, greek yogurt and salsa.
Good parents take their pups out to play on cloudy days.
Bad parents just walk outside to snap food pictures and leave the pup begging to play.
(ok… I threw her some sticks ;))
A heavenly chocolate truffle, compliments of a friend, and a cup of decaf with breve cream.
Chana masala with broccoli and garlic naan.
And finally… I’m sure only bad parents take away a tired baby’s pacifier in order to try and capture their cute frown on camera.
Frown capture fail.
Resume good parenting.
Done anything lately that you’re certain only bad parents (of children and/or pups) would do?
Molly @ Duchess of Fork says
I almost always let Julia wiggle in bed for a few minutes each morning so I can unload the dishwasher and get my coffee! She usually falls back asleep for 30 + minutes. Woohoo!
Rachel @ Not Rachael Ray says
Hehe…so not “bad.” Normal!
Great Aunt Lynn says
I am still waiting for the bad part.
Jamie @ FoodinRealLife says
I think the frown pictures were worth it- the second one is classic. Oh and Hailey looks just like you in the pic in the carrier!
Kristen @ The Concrete Runner says
Take their baby to a Christmas party when baby is obviously not feeling well. Oops. She’s better now though! Damn shots…
Love the pics of Hailey! So cute! 🙂
Erin says
Love it, you are an amazing mom.
Please thoough do be careful of the bumbo on the counter. Especially as baby gets bigger. They are a huge tipping hazzard. It only takes a minute and one arch of the back for the thing to flip. My son use to constantly flip the thing over on the floor at that age.
Brittany says
Eeks! Thanks for the warning. I’m always next to her when she is in it, but I know it can only take one second of looking the other way. I’ll be careful!
A says
It takes a split second.

I never say things like this to parents, but please reconsider putting your baby on an elevated surface in a bumbo.
Jen Adair says
Clicking on the panera link takes me to a You Tube video of a Fed Ex guy throwing a computer monitor…
Wrong link perhaps? That soup looks so delicious!!!
Brittany says
Haha! Oops, thanks for pointing it out. I fixed it now. …but isn’t that FedEx video ridiculous??
Krista says
My daughter just turned 4 and last year was the first year she got real Christmas presents. And this year it’s just a handful of small items since she just had her bday and she honestly has no wants at this age and we’re taking advantage! Our house is overflowing kid stuff as it is!
I don’t feel like a bad mom though, even though my friends with kids the same age are out spending $500 on theirs (no lie).
Oh and my daughter is getting a baby brother in 5.5 weeks so I’ll count that as a gift too. 😉
Brittany says
Hubbs says 4 is the magical age, too! I’m glad I’m not the only one not spending a load of $ of presents. Even when she is older, I don’t plan on going overboard with gifts. It’s about so much more than presents, you know?
Oh, and I definitely count a baby brother as the most wonderful gift, ever- Congrats!! 🙂
Krista says
She really does ‘get it’ at this age, it is fun! Although a little leery of a man coming down her chimney while she sleeps. And I agree, I want the focus to NOT be on gifts and monetary items, it never was in my house growing up and I plan to do the same! We are very blessed financially but that is not the lesson I want for my children. I hope your family has a wonderful Christmas!
Paulina says
Ahahaha yes. All of it! I have to admit to some very similar “bad parent” behavior.
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
Ha… a little “bad” parenting is usually good in the long-run. 😀 The hubs has been sneaking our table-shark (kitty) extra nibbles from the table lately. I fuss at him, but I think he’s just in a giving spirit for the holidays.
blackhuff says
You know what? Everything that you mentioned, is what good parents do. (Pst! Don’t tell anyone 😉 )
Love how you share all these things here.
Kate says
I got in the shower yesterday while my 7 week old was crying and I couldn’t calm her…by the time I had my hair washed she had stopped so that made me feel a little better!
Suzanne says
I’m pretty sure ALL parents take photos of the baby frowns/crys. We got B all suff we’d get anyway for Christmas: Teethers and books (I hardly got any books at my showers) and one “toy” (the Leap Frog Learn and Groove Table – which is something we probably would have bought anyway). Oh and he’s also “getting” more clothes (read: He’s growing out of his clothes so fast that I HAD to buy him some bigger clothes and figured “why not just put them under the tree). You’re a good mom, we all do those things 🙂
Anna says
I love your blog…my son is 4 months old and I have to tell you that your entries make me feel more normal! All of those things “bad” moms do are things I do to keep myself sane b/c a hungry, exhausted and depleted mom isn’t going to do anything to help her baby thrive. I made myself pumpkin pancakes (with Kodiak mix) today while my son had the hiccups in his swing chair in the kitchen and looked like “mom, please, this is not what I want to be doing right now.” He was fussing and annoyed but I kept talking to him, cooing at him and made it work. Anyway, your baby is beautiful and I will keep reading!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I think it was worth it for those pictures though. How cute is that sequence without the pacifier?!
Bad (dog) parents say “who is it? who’s at the door?” when there’s obviously no one here just to get a rise out of their dog. 🙂
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
I definitely do that to my dog too. 🙂
stephanie**S says
I definitely do that too. Or ask my middle dog if she wants her ears cleaned…. just to see her squint her eyes and roll over begging me not too.
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
haha this post literally made me laugh!
Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean says
so cute! love the bumbo pic. and my dog does that same one foot up in the air pose when he’s waiting for me to throw his ball!
christina says
you know you are an awesome mom!! that soup looks good. i love lemony orzo soups.
Katie @ Pop Culture Cuisine says
I drug my 3 month old all over creation yesterday so we could finish up some Christmas shopping and then meet friends out of dinner/drinks…she didn’t get the best naps in after her morning nap so I think she is making up for it today. I felt bad having her in her car seat so much, but sometimes in order to get things done there just isn’t any other option. Glad I am not the only one who does some “bad mommy” things :)!
Sarah says
Oh my goodness that picture of her in the little chair is priceless! So adorably confused/frustrated!
Mandy says
I love the third frown picture! It’s what we refer to as “quiver lip”.. hahaha.
We laugh at our boy when he’s being cute-fussy when he’s overtired. We feel bad but sad baby is sooo cute!
Maria says
I don’t think these are bad parent moves, just normal parent moves 🙂
When I was nanny, I’d sometimes steal cheddar bunnies from their lunches because I never had time to eat normal meals. I’d ask first, of course, but the kids liked me, so they always said yes. Horrible, I know.
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
ha! I don’t think any of those things make you a bad parent! An honest parent, yes. A bad parent, no.
Michelle@Peachy Palate says
Ah your baby is adorable! Your a good parent because you’re looking after yourself, bad parents neglect themselves and don’t give themselves the time to eat and enjoy their hobbies – liking blogging!
Tina @ Best Body Fitness says
Based on all this…I’m a bad parent right along with ya! LOL
Kelli says
I had never heard of Chana Masala until I read your post. I did a google search and it turns out I have all the ingredients in my pantry and fridge already. I know what I’m making for dinner tonight! 🙂
Jen says
Aww those last pictures of her are too precious! You are far from a bad parent!
Jen@FoodFamilyFitness says
It’s probably bad that my 3 year old was with me christmas shopping for everyone…you do what you gotta do 😉
P.S. I think her sweet little baby frown is adorable!!!
Parita says
Good moms take care of themselves in order to take care of their babies! You’re doing awesome and she’s too cute for words…frown and all!
Kris | iheartwellness.com says
I think you’re pretty darn amazing!! LOL! How cute!
I think I should take my stinky dog for a walk more…but he seems to hate walks in the cold, the rain and the wind. Well, there goes Vancouver weather 😉
xxoo
Michaela says
haha!
A friend of mine fed her little one store bought applesauce and he was so used to the consitency, that he always cringed when fed the homemade version. Nevertheless, she would still give him him spoonfuls of the homemade applesauce, as his face was just to die for and we always cracked up laughing while watching. She felt so bad, but it was worth it 😉 (In the end, he always got the store bought kind and was a happy kiddo)
