Now that’s I’m focused and recommitted to feeling like the strongest, healthiest me, I am excited to really start exploring and experimenting with food again. I finally made it back to my favorite local health food store and had so much fun just browsing the aisles.
We all get our kicks in different ways, right? 😉
I picked up a few new things to try out, including…
This little sample packet from Amazing Grass includes all sorts of natural goodness, like wheat grass, and has a chocolate flavor, thanks to cocoa. I ate my Juice Plus and then decided to see how the packet tasted as a part of…
It turns out it was a fabulous addition! I hadn’t enjoyed a green monster in forever, and I really, really enjoyed it. The slight chocolaty flavor added a delicious twist to my smoothie, and there was no hint of a wheat grass flavor 🙂 In the mix:
- 1-1.5 c vanilla almond milk
- 1 heaping Tbsp of peanut butter
- handful of spinach
- 1/2 frozen banana
- drizzle of honey
- a pinch of xantham gum (for thickening)
- Amazing Grass Packet
Again, I had whipped up a large batch of quinoa to eat throughout the week and I really am loving having it in the fridge. It’s quick, easy and delicious. My heart hurts for those that find quinoa bitter… I love it so much! …but I guess you could do the same thing with brown rice, barley, wheatberries or any other grain.
I made a hefty bed of spinach, topped with a load of quinoa, goat cheese and dried blueberries (another find from Healthy Home Market!) and drizzled with Newman’s Own Light Balsamic. Yes, it’s basically the only dressing I eat. I can’t help it. It’s delicious.
It was a busy afternoon, so when my stomach started rumbling, I reached for quick and easy. An incredible honeycrisp apple (they truly are the best!) and a Clif Bar
I love when the slow cooker makes dinner for me! We enjoyed burrito bowls for the first time in a while and it felt good to eat some healthy Mexican food, rather the the greasy (yet, also delicious) food from our favorite restaurant.
Mine had a mix of brown rice, black beans, shreddd chicken, peppers, onions, avocado, cilantro and sour cream. And on the side, you can’t forget some chips ‘n salsa.
I told you, I can’t get enough pumpkin beer, so Hubbs and I split a glass of his pumpkin home brew while we watched The Sing Off.
On that note (pun intended!), I’m slightly irked that Delilah is still around. In my opinion, they should have been gone 2 shows ago. But on a positive note, I really like Sarah Bareilles as the new judge. She is so quirky and cute!
Do you watch The Sing Off?
I love it and am amazed at what these groups can do with just their voices!
If you don’t watch it… what else are you watching?
I’m looking to add to my DVR list 😉
I shared with you guys how frustrated I was by my awkward appearance on A Healthier Charlotte. Well, the video is live now, and though watching myself on camera was slightly painful, we were all three invited back to do another segment, so maybe I wasn’t as bad as I thought? Let me know what you think!
Also, stay tuned for the Fit Bit Segment to see Jen do her thing… and take a minute to admire her arms… they’re my inspiration arms 🙂

It’s shows like this that make me miss having cable b/c I think I’d be totally obsessed with this one! Nice day of eats 🙂
You did great on the show! We’re always our own worst critics. SO happy you all were invited back! 🙂
Oh, you’re very kind! I’m glad we’re invited back so I can hopefully redeem my babbling self 🙂
Bobby DeMuro says
You guys really did do well on the show! Well-spoken, good information, we were really happy with it in post-production. (Oh, and when we all met with producers afterwards, they immediately said “those three – have them back on to do another show in a few weeks!”). So, you got it made in the shade, Brittany!
Not sure about this whole pumpkin beer thing, though…
Thanks Bobby! I’m excited to be invited back! I promise to try not to ramble next time…
PS- you’re not a fan of pumpkin beer? I guess we can’t be friends 😉
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
What a great looking day of eats! And pumpkin beer for dessert sounds like a fab idea to me! 🙂
Jennifer B. says
I love that you are doing the juice plus gummies!!!
Lindsay @ Schnoodle Soup says
Pumpkin homebrew?!?!?!?! I am jealous of your life. Although, if I had that in my house, I probably wouldn’t be splitting beers and would be drinking 3 a night. So, probably best I don’t have that handy!
I won’t lie, it’s tough knowing we have two beers on tap just chillin in the garage fridge… hmm.. now that I’m thinking about it…. time to go grab a brewski!
I don’t have cable, but I have been following Sing Off. I went to U of R and have always loved the Yellow Jackets. Yea, Rochester!
I adore the Yellow Jackets, too!!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
wait wait wait. I thought we were Gossip Girl-watching twins. and now you tell me you’ve committed to The Sing-Off?
I kid… I actually really want to watch TSO, but I can’t stop my love for Gossip Girl. Can’tstop.
My friend… I am a GG fanatic. However, watching it with the husband ruins it (oh how I miss watching shows with girlfriends!), so I DVR it to watch (and drool over Chuck Bass… yes, I like Chuck over Nate.. don’t judge) later 🙂
Lauren B says
Aw, Brittany, you did a great job! You didn’t seem nervous at all! And it’s so funny to finally put your face to a voice. 🙂
Lauren B says
Oh, and P.S. I am currently in the midst of a Felicity marathon on Netflix. Such a good show, and it was on from 1998-2002 when I was at UGA, so it brings back some fun college memories. (Although UGA was quite different!)
Thank you! Do I sound different than you thought? I hate the way I sound on camera 🙂
Lauren B says
Yes, you sounded different than I was expecting, but you have a nice voice! 🙂
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
I can’t wait to watch the clip. Thanks for sharing. 🙂 It’s always hard to watch and/or hear your recorded self.
BTW… honeycrisp = queen of all apples
Jill @ Just Focus Well says
I think you did a great job!! I am sure it is tough to watch yourself, but I think you did great 🙂
Burrito bowls sound so good now that it’t getting colder out. I always crave spicy foods in cool weather.
Recently I have been watching Up all Night which I find hilarious. I love Will Arnett.
Will Arnett is awesome! I watch that show, too. Although I loved him most in Arrested Development!
Donna @ Life of a Happy Blonde says
Ohhh i can’t wait to watch the clip once i’m not at work, lol!
I’m so jealous of your pumpkin beer, i’m going to have to track some down, i keep reading about it!
Your eats all look fabulous and i agree, me and my slow cooker are likethis 🙂
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
I gotta watch that clips later tonight — so excited! I hate hearing myself talk on a recording. I think everyone does. lol.
Tanya @ Vegan Faith says
You did a really great job on the segment! I loved watching it!
Great meals, I am loving that burrito bowl, so good!!! I don’t watch the sing off, it’s normally on when Gossip Girl is on and that’s my guilty pleasure…well, one of them 😉
You were great on screen. I love finally putting a voice to your face. I can’t wait til the next segment.
Where have you been girl?! Good to hear from you… post a blog every once in a while so I can catch up on what you’ve been up to- hope you’re doing well! 🙂
John J. says
You were great. You are definitely way too hard on yourself. Lighten up. You had a lot of good information and your personal style was credible and inviting. When will the next show be on? You might want to add for the next show about some of the psychological benefits of eating well and feeling good about yourself for the good choices you make and the resulting successes inherent. (I want a comment back!)
‘Umpire’ John 😉 I appreciate your supportive words. I know we’re our own worst critics, but I feel like I have more to say that I didn’t articulate the way I had hoped. Good thing there will be a ‘next time’ and I will let you know when that happens!
I would love to touch on the psychological benefits of eating well and staying healthy, though I imagine an expert opinion would be more welcomed… care to make a trip to Charlotte? 🙂
Lauren K says
You were great and did not sound nervous at all! Can’t wait to see the next segment!
Oh my goodness, how could you think you did badly?! You were great! Burrito bowls is such a good idea and sounds delicious right now. I made a big batch of quinoa this week too. Such a time save later in the week.
You did great! We are always our worst critic. Your smoothie sounds great–unfortunately smoothies rarely fill me up at a meal. I am especially ravenous at breakfast since I mam nursing, so oatmeal usually does the trick. The burrito bowl, and your quinoa combo, sound delicious!
You did REALLY well on the segment! Congrats on being invited back!
I need to make more quinoa, apparently. That looked delicious!
Very good menu you had yesterday. You are right on track.
My version of the Green monster and my kids love it too:
250g of Spinach
250g of Strawberries
100g of Pineapple
250ml of Fruit Juice
Blend and enjoy 🙂
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
I love quinoa and it makes me laugh to see all of the Honeycrisps on everyone’s blogs. I just found them this week! Where have I been?!?
Question: did Hailey seem to notice all of the greens in the shake when you nursed her? Sometimes I wonder if certain veggies, like broccoli, make my daughter gassy.
Oh, and am sao jealous of the pumpkin beer! I love those!
Shayla @ The Good Life says
You did absolutely fantastic on the show!! You didn’t seem a bit nervous either…you spoke so well and seemed so confident…I’m not surprised you were asked back! 🙂
What a great day of eats…that burrito bowl looks so delicious and love how easy it is to make!
