Before we get going today, I have to wish my Grandma Betty a happy 92nd birthday!
She’s spunky, strong-willed and has a fabulously positive attitude towards life. I want to be just like her when I grow up. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDMA BETTY!
…now WIAW compliments of wonderful Jenn!
I actually forgot to snap a picture of my Van’s protein waffle, peanut butter and honey, but it looked something like this:
I’ve been squeezing a wog in usually between breakfast and Hailey’s first nap (9am), but yesterday I was running a bit behind so it was a shorter walk instead.
I’ve also been listening to Audiobooks, which is making my wogs FLY by. I just finished The Fountainhead and I’m underselling it by saying it’s my favorite book I’ve ever read. Now, I’m moving on to Atlas Shrugged. I guess I missed out on a few of these on my first trip through the required reading list in high school.
Many people have asked how I prep meals with a 10 month old. My answer: mom’s best friend.
I’m so serious. Koda is a fabulous babysitter and performs wonders on post-munchkin meal messes. Love that dog.
She served as a distraction while I made lunch. This zucchini, basil and barley salad is quickly becoming a new favorite. Tastes like summer.
Then there was a pre-yoga snack:
The Fage 2% cherry yogurt tastes just like dessert when mixed with LOVE Grown Granola. In fact, I felt like I was enjoying a piece of my mom’s famous cherry cheese junk (don’t judge it by it’s name- it’s what made my dad fall in love with my mom because it’s that good ).
Then, we yoga’d.
It brings color to my skin. Namaste.
Back home I enjoyed the back porch… and a martini.
Why is it that sipping on a martini makes me feel so much more like an alcoholic than sipping on a beer or glass of wine? All are considered one drink, right? Oh well, YOLO.
Dinner was a buffalo chicken salad, which would have held me over just fine if not for the USA gymnasts. Anyone else get sucked into the Olympics? We stayed up until midnight, which is unheard for us on a school night, to watch the girls and the swim men take GOLD. #USA!
…while I watched their ripped bodies perform incredible athletic feats, I snacked on dark chocolate chips.
Oh well, YOLO.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Happy Birthday to your grandma! 🙂
Also – yes, totally obsessed by the Olympics. The gymnasts’ win last night was my favorite part so far! Their reactions – especially Aly’s – were priceless!

I love that Koda and Hailey are besties – I’m sure Charlie will be in love with our someday babies!
Brittany says
I’m sure he will, too. I’ve seen his sweet puppy face on instagram 🙂
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
Your grandmother looks fantastic…and so does all of your food. I cannot wait to drink a martini again- and I never even liked them! Haha.
christina says
I think holding a martini glass is much more difficult than holding a beer. You’re extra careful — I feel like if I slip up a bit, I have to immediately say “I swear, I’m not drunk!” haha
Brittany says
I chug them fast enough that there usually aren’t many spills…. though I’m not sure I should be proud of that! 🙂
Chelcie @ Chelcie's Food Files says
i stayed up to watch the gymnastics too i’m obsessed!

Gymnastics = super awesome! Lovin’ it 🙂

Aw, happy birthday to your grandma! So cute. I used to love listening to audiobooks on my commute. Thanks for the recommendation!
I wish bailey could play with Audrey. He is only four lbs so I spend a lot of time keeping her from getting him. Poor little guy, haha
Jessie says
Your grandma is adorable!! Happy Birthday :):)
Sighh…. I could go for a Martini right about now. Unfortunately, alcohol is illegal here in Kuwait! Guess I’ll just have to continue to pretend haha. Oh & your salad looks delicious girl!
Have a great Wednesday!
Brittany says
Woah, woah, woah… ALL alcohol is illegal in Kuwait?? I didn’t know that! I’ll sip one for you next time 😉
Jessie says
Oh thank you, you are far too sweet 🙂 That maybe another reason why I’m so excited for our upcoming vacation to Greece in September… to be able to drink!! I’m not gonna know what to order first lol

A BIG congrats to your grandmother – that is a very high age and she is surely blessed by God by turning 92 years old. Wow!

Happy Birthday Grandma! She looks so youthful! 🙂 I hope I’m lucky enough to look that good if I’m lucky enough to live that long!!
And now I need to go find some chocolate thanks to your chips pic. 😉

So sweet of Koda to babysit for you. 🙂 I always think about how Ryder will be as a big brother some day.

Aw that’s awesome that Hailey will play with the dog while you cook!!! That’s also super adorable 🙂
Lisa says
Happy birthday to your grandma!!
You chicken salad looks so delicious. And I love that Hailey plays with the dog while you cook. That’s so sweet.
Haha, I definitely feel more like an alcoholic if I have a martini rather than a beer or cider, but I prefer them so much more. You’re right YOLO.

So exciting to see another person interested in Ayn Rand – I’ve read Atlas Shrugged and it is one of my favorite books. My boyfriend read The Fountainhead and we need to swap books because we end up having a lot of Ayn Rand discussions.
It is hard to get into AS, but after the first 10 chapters you’ll (hopefully) be hooked. I don’t take everything she says to heart and a lot of her philosophy is more than I can take, but in general her ideas are very interesting to me. Happy reading!
Brittany says
David and I did just the opposite- I read The Fountainhead and he is really far into Atlas Shrugged. I can’t wait for him to read The Fountainhead bc we really enjoy ourselves some Ayn Rand discussions, too! I’ve heard AS is hard to get into, but I’m determined to go for it. So far, so good. Wish me luck 😉
Kelly @ Runmarun says
Yay for Ayn Rand! I loved The Fountainhead. We considered naming Lula Roark if she had been a boy (we didn’t know ahead of time) but thought it was a little much… 😉 I started reading Atlas Shrugged last summer but never got through it- it was very interesting, I just forgot about it. Perhaps I need to pull it back out.
Brittany says
Oh my gosh, Roark would be an amazing name if Lula was a boy- haha! I guess you could have named her Dominique? 😉 Incredible book!
I hear AS is hard to get into. I just started it and like it so far… I’m going to try to keep at it and make it through. Wish me luck!
