I really enjoyed reading all the feedback from yesterday’s post on when to bring the baby to the gym. As with every topic in parenting, opinions differed greatly. So after breakfast…
which consisted of oatmeal, pumpkin butter
almonds and chia seeds (YUM)
…I took your advice to swing by and check out the facilities myself and, as expected, it was pretty crowded.
However, after a guided tour, I felt much more comfortable. The babies are in a separate room from toddlers and everything in the is wiped down with clorox wipes after each baby is picked up. There are always 3-4 adults in there at a time and they even take their shoes off before entering so that they don’t track in outside gunk. There is a password protected system to ensure that no one can come pick up your baby and they happily follow any directions your give them (regarding feeding, changing, holding, etc).
The lady told me the least busy times were right at 8:00am or around 3:30, so I’m going to try and aim for those times to start. After a lot of thought and reading your input, I’ve decided that I am going to try it out. I am pleased with the facilities and really think it will be good for Hailey and for mommy to get back to working out. After all, I’m a better mommy when I’m able to take care of myself.
Then came lunch.
Salsarita’s naked burrito. Rice, black beans, corn salsa, mild salsa, guacamole, red onions, guacamole and cilantro.
Finally I made it to the grocery store, so I the afternoon was full of nutrition and my normal eats and oh, it felt (& tasted) so good.
Green beans and Sabra.
Green monster: 1/2 frozen banana, Amazing Grass packet, peanut butter, almond milk, chia seeds, and spinach. Even Hubbs said it tasted better than he would have guessed, so don’t judge a drink by it’s color
Since it was 25 degrees and I wasn’t gyming it yet, I snuck in 30 minutes with Jillian while Hailey napped. It felt good to get the blood pumping.
(And I wonder while my daughter’s tongue is always sticking out of her mouth…)
I ate 2 Cuties after the shred while I made dinner…
…and entertained Hailey by teaching her to cook. Clearly, she was fascinated by my skills.
Dinner was Indian-ish. I say “ish” because I served it over broccoli and brown rice, but used this delicious sauce with the onions, chickpeas, chicken and tomatoes:
Success!
Someone please tell me what took me so long to realize I could microwave rolled oats to make my own ‘microwavable oatmeal’ instead of using the premade packets.
Despite my distaste for overnight oats, the warm ones I had this morning were SPOT ON. YUM.
Oatmeal…. cold or hot?
Mariel says
yum! looks like a great day of great eats! I tend to like oatmeal cold. funny right?
Brittany says
Not funny at all! I’m beginning to think I’m the only one who isn’t a fan of cold oats 🙂
Sarah says
Not the only one! I prefer my oats too. Not a fan of the cold yesterday’s-barf-ish-ness overnight style. Bleck.
Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon says
That burrito bowl looks great!!
And I’m all about the cold oats!
Whitney says
My breakfast every morning is a bowl of HOT oatmeal and a glass of COLD milk! Yum! 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Which Jillian DVD did you do? I rolled with 30 day shred yesterday 🙂 Glad you’re feeling more comfortable with the gym setup, I think you’ll love being back!
Brittany says
30 day shred, baby! I did level 2. I love it for a quick workout and I actually can feel it in my arms today- wahoo 🙂
Susan @ Real Life Travels says
Sweet! Let’s hit up class … I’m so more then ready I just need a friend to give me the little last shove that I need to get there!
Nichole says
Can’t wait to hear how it goes! You’ll be fine, I know it:) Since you’re already taking the time to make sure it’s a good fit, you’re a step ahead.
Overnight oats was my thing, until I got lazy, so I pop them in the freezer for about 15 minutes in the morning while I’m getting ready. haha!
Brittany says
You can totally start your own trend- I have yet to hear of freezer oats!
Mer @mersworld says
Definitely hot oats! I’ve tried so hard to get into the cold oats in a jar phenomenon, but I’ll take my oats overnight in a jar (and then a minute in the microwave) thankyouverymuch! Have a great day and I’m glad that you have a plan to get back to the gym that you feel comfortable with!
Shannon (Healthiful Balance) says

Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Glad you are feeling back on track!
I have only had Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Butter before and it was far too sweet for my liking.
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
hot oatmeal > cold oatmeal. That dinner looks fabulous. I really like making Indian food at home.
Sounds like your gym will take good care of H. 🙂

Good to know the day care is a good facility! I don’t think my gyms is nearly as nice as yours sounds.
Oats should be warm in my book!
Michelle @ Lifewithacrazypup says
Oatmeal = WARM! Looks like you are doing an awesome job getting back on track! My husband and I started our Insanity workouts a few days ago. I’m so incredibly sore but if feels so good to get my body moving again!
Brittany says
I’ve heard Insanity is AWESOME. I will have to try it sometime. Especially if it makes you sore. I love being sore. Makes me feel like I did something 🙂

She Rocks Fitness says
I’ve been doing a lot of at-home workouts these past couple of weeks to avoid the gym crowds. I enjoy them, plus it helps me get creative, and Jillian’s workouts are a butt kicker for sure. I’ve been doing her “Making the Cut” workouts.
Meg @ My Chocolate Covered Life says
Good for you for being so healthy and back on track! I am having a tough time adjusting back to healthy eating – it’s amazing how quickly the body acclimates to an absurd amount of sugar and continues to crave it.
I am sure you and Hailey will be glad about returning to the gym. There’s nothing like an awesome workout to make life that much better!
maria @ a life to bragg about says
Yay for being on track Momma! We have to get in our workouts somehow! All of your food looks great! And I’ve tried that Seeds of Change brand before and LOVE it 🙂
Sarah says
oatmeal… hot for sure!
Andrea says
Oatmeal, hot. Get the “old fashioned” – 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, in a bowl, microwave on half power for 3:25. Add 2 T pecorino romano cheese, 1/2 t fresh black pepper (I used a little less), and drizzle up to 2 t EVOO. YUM!!
