Sodium FAIL edition.
Like I mentioned yesterday, Mom was in town and we spent all day out and about, which made sticking to my usual eating schedule a bit challenging… especially when I get hungry every 2 hours (kid you not). I need to do a better job with packing snacks.
Here goes nothing…
Breakfast started off a healthy note! An Arnold whole wheat sandwich thin, topped with an onion, pepper and spinach 1 egg +1 egg white scramble, with 1 tbsp of fresh salsa.
Plus a cup of decaf coffee with 1 Tbsp of Breve Cream (LOVE this new creamer from International Delight. It’s the only creamer I can find made with REAL ingredients… cream, milk and sugar- score!)
Breakfast total: 240 calories, 31 carbs, 7 fat, 14 protein, 440 sodium
After a little yoga… BTW, check out who is actually doing tree correctly (MOM) and who isn’t (ME!)
It was time for lunch! We ventured to Earth Fare and spent some time playing around the store before grabbing lunch. Here I ate…
a sample of cheddar
a sample of Indian Stew
and then finally, starving, decided on a veggie burger and sweet potato fries from the Earth Fare Grill.
I opted to go bun-less and made myself a mini-veggie-salad. I was mindful of sodium (somewhat) and only used 1/2 pack of mustard and 1 packet of ketchup. Mom snagged a couple fries (delicious!) and my plate ended up like this:
Lunch Total (somewhat estimated with my best guesses) 422 calories, 50 carbs, 19 fat, 9 protein, 1135 sodium.
From there we picked out bedding fabrics and did more baby errands before I needed another snack. This time, the only thing around was Chick-fil-A.
We split a chargrilled chicken sandwich and both went topless. (Get your mind out of the gutter ;))
We also split a fruit cup and MOM ordered the extra pickles- haha!
Snack total: 175 calories, 32 carbs, 2 fat, 14 protein and 470 sodium.
We finally arrived home around 5pm and I was starving. I made myself a salad beast with Zesty Italian dressing.
172 calories, 12 carbs, 4.5 fat, 2.5 protein, 966 sodium.
Then we went on a 30 minute wog, followed by a 30 minute walk (totaling over 4 miles- yay!). And I needed another snack.
Apple: 71 calories, 19 carbs, trace amount of fat and protein.
After cleaning up and convincing Hubbs to put down the chainsaw, we were all exhausted and HUNGRY. We headed straight to Sauzas, because they never let us down!
We all split fajitas (I ate 1), and it totally hit the spot. If you’re going to go over on sodium, might as well go all out, right?
Dinner total (best guesses off 411fit): 567 calories, 76 carbs, 17 fat, 29 protein, 1821 sodium.
Daily Total
1648 calories
216 g carbs
50 g fat
70 g protein
and a whopping
4834 mg of sodium
I went way overboard on sodium. But I’m back on the wagon today! I actually am glad I had such a challenging eating day yesterday, because I never want anyone to get the idea that I represent myself as a perfect eater (because I’m not), and I like to show you guys the truth- that eating away from home is challenging… especially when you don’t pack snacks.
Totally unrelated news?
I’m feeling little thumps from Baby D!!! Can’t wait to see the little one again on Friday!!!

I think you made great choices while eating out. Sodium is expected to be high when dining away from home. And how exciting to feel the baby moving! 🙂

How exciting!
I think it’s so nice that your mom can share these experiences with you, all the baby preparation AND the yoga and wogging. I can’t picture my mom keeping up with that sort of thing.
It’s hard to eat as well out as you would at home.

I really appreciate your honesty! I think most everyone can relate to these kinds of real life situations, when you intend to be healthy (and are) but sometimes can’t control things like sodium intake. Hey, sometimes life gets in the way of our idea of “healthy”, but thats ok!
Glad you had a good time with your mom!!

Hooray for honesty! I’ve been inhaling WAY too much sugar (the other evil ‘S’) lately, but have been getting back on track. You know, people sometimes make fun of me for the number of snacks I stash in my purse and various locations in my car, but I hate to be without when hunger strikes. 🙂

You seem to be doing well. The fact that you are aware and midful is a positive step in the right direction. Good for you ! 🙂
