First of all I really want to say thank you for your comments on my (attempt at) fashion post! I’ve seriously read every single comment and can’t tell you how much I appreciate your insight. There was quite a consensus on what looked good and what didn’t do me any favors (thank you for your kind word choices!). I’m going to give more detailed feedback to my stylist and see if that helps, though a lot of Stitch Fix users seem to agree their clothes are more loose than figure flattering. Interesting!
Moving on, on a personal level this week has been full of some emotional challenges that aren’t really mine to share, but I’ve felt a little preoccupied and emotionally drained. Let’s just say I’m thrilled it’s Friday and looking forward to a low key, relaxing weekend!
Here’s a little peek into some things that happened this week that didn’t make the blog…
First up, those chia pods I mentioned! Can we first look at the best by date though?
To my knowledge September only has 30 days… right?
Anyway, the pods. Personally it’s a texture thing for me and I found them to just be ‘eh.’ Hailey pretty much agreed with me, but Kaitlyn loved it! It was tedious trying to spoon it into her mouth, so I switched it into a reusable Little Green Pouch and she devoured it.
A lot of you mentioned how easy it is to make your own, so I am going to look into doing that for Kaitlyn.
On the workout front, I completed this killer leg workout on Wednesday…
and my legs are still sore this morning. If you’re looking for a good one, try it! I used 12 lb weights and whew, I feel it.
Wednesday night my Shaklee team had a health presentation event at which I had to speak to a room of about 50 people for approximately 60 seconds. Thanks for nothing college public speaking class; my heart still pounds like it’s trying to leap out of my chest when I have to speak to more than a handful of people at a time.
Fortunately my friend Andrea was up for sushi and wine afterwards, which took the edge off.
Yesterday afternoon the girls and I met up with Caitlin and Julie at the beach again. On our walk across the parking lot Hailey tripped on her flip flop and sprawled across the asphalt. I’ll give it to her, it looked like it hurt and her knees were scraped up but myyyyyy goodness you really would have thought she had broken both legs. When the girl gets a boo-boo, she commits fully to victim roll, complete with screams, cries and pouting for a solid 20 minutes. It’s actually quite impressive. I snapped a picture (bad mom), but can’t bring myself to post it, so let’s just say she looked about as opposite as you can get from smiley baby Claire.
Kaitlyn had a blast though, continuously running full speed into the water as I ran after her, scooping her up each time. Beach and relaxing no longer belong in the same sentence to me and I’m just hoping I haven’t completely scared Julie off from what her life is going to look like in a few short weeks- ha!
I’m really excited to meal plan for this next week because this week has been a bit all over the place. I made the girls smoothies for dinner last night, which was a hit.
and so easy. Why don’t I do that more often?!
Then I grilled chicken and sauteed all remaining veggies I had for David and me.
My fridge is now crying for me to make it to the grocery store.
We finished up last night with my favorite show, Master Chef, and snuggles on the couch.
And now I’m thinking we need a good movie for tonight!
Any movie suggestions that are either funny/light-hearted or a good thriller/action?
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Nothing like sushi and wine to make public speaking a bit more palatable! I still get nervous – every time. We just watched American Sniper and it was fantastic, but very intense and emotional.
Brittany Dixon says
Yes!! That movie was so good but so intense and I was just heartbroken in the end (even though I knew what to expect). Great movie though.
Parita @ myinnershakti says
Aww poor H! Not gonna like, I was like that as a kid (and sometimes still am). My parents would give in a little but Vishnu? Not so much. I think it’s the doctor in him!
As far as movies go, we haven’t watched any good ones at home lately. I’m hoping to make it to the theater tonight to watch Trainwreck. I’ve heard it’s pretty funny!
Brittany Dixon says
Haha, David picks on me so much because my mom was always so coddling to me when I got hurt or sick. I loved it!
I can’t wait to see Trainwreck- looks hilarious!
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood says
I’m always taking pictures of Ryan freaking out over nothing and everything because I think it’s hilarious. I send them to my husband and my girlfriends. Bad mom. I actually LOVED my public speaking classes (I was a PR major, so I had to take 3!!) and I still got sick to my stomach each time we presented, which was every class.
Brittany Dixon says
I’ve sent crying pictures to David too 😉 They need to know what we are dealing with- ha!
John J. says
Kaitlyn is SO cute!
Jeannie says
I absolutely hate public speaking! But I do love those chia pods …Mango flavor is good..if you make them pls share the recipe.
What did you put in the smoothie? I’m trying to get my 18 mos old to like them. Your chicken looks real good what seasoning? TGIF
Brittany Dixon says
Ohh, mango does sound good!
The smoothie was practically milkshake like! Peanut butter, whole milk, banana and vanilla protein with spinach and zucchini puree blend. Odd, but was really good!
The chicken seasoning was pre-marinated (lazy mom) lemon herb from Whole Foods!
Jeannie says
What brand protein powder do u use with the kids?
I do spinach also in smoothie and frozen cut string beans try the string beans u won’t taste it!
Brittany Dixon says
I use Shaklee with the girls when I add protein (sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t!). Love the idea of string beans- I’ve never heard of that!
Lindsey @ Simply Lindsey says
I love older comedies! The movie Clifford (with Martin Short) is hilarious, but only if you like his type of humor haha. Mel Brooks movies and anything with Jim Carrey are some of my faves too.

I’m trying to think of what movies we’ve watched recently that have been good. We’re waaaay behind, so a lot of movies I’ve watched have been out forever, but I’ve only finally gotten to see. Ha ha. The Theory of Everything was fantastic. I loved Interstellar. We’re going to watch St. Vincent tonight since that looked really good and you can’t go wrong with Bill Murray. 😉
Brittany Dixon says
I want to see The Theory of Everything so badly but am afraid I’ll cry through the whole movie! Was it really heartbreaking to watch his disease progress?
Heather says
While it was a little sad, I don’t think I really cried (and I’m usually very emotional). I think what helped was because of his outlook and attitude and how inspirational he is. It wasn’t nearly as depressing as I thought it might be! But, no… it’s definitely not lighthearted. 😉
Kristina @ msmodify says
I just saw a movie on Netflix called “The Chef” that was really cute! It was lighthearted and funny at times, you should check it out!
Brittany Dixon says
I loved Chef!! I agree- such a cute movie.
Kelli says
I love when you post your boot camp workouts I always do them!! question when It says 20 goblet squats is that 20 each leg times 5?
Brittany Dixon says
Yes! You do squat exercises 1-3 then 100 mountain climbers then repeat 5 times before moving on the to next circuit. Whew!
christina says
so i made my own chia pudding last night. it’s super easy. just do a 3tbsp of chia to 1 cup of liquid ratio, then stir and let sit overnight. you can add spices and fruit or whatever you’d like!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh perfect!! Thanks for the ratio 🙂 I have plans to make some this weekend. Really living it 😉
Melissa S. says
I haven’t watched a movie in forever but I really want to see pitch perfect 2 and train wreck. I love your TV stand! May I ask where you purchased it?
Brittany Dixon says
I want to see Pitch Perfect 2 so badly too! I wonder when it comes to video?
Thanks! We bought the TV stand at the Hickory Furniture Mart (Hickory is a town about an hour away from us is really well known for their furniture!)
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
I really like The Grand Budapest Hotel! Funny and quirky and just enjoyable!
Lynne says
We love Master Chef too! Gordon Ramsey is not the beast he really tries to be. The man has a heart–a good one.
How is Koda doing with treatments? I see that there is a shaved site on his side. Hopefully he is doing great and beating that nasty disease down.
As for movies, most of the ones I love are not particularly lighthearted, but wonderful just the same and leave you with a good feeling.
Good Feeling:
Momma Mia if you love to sing and like ABBA songs is always uplifting.
The Long Long Trailer ( Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz, an oldie but so funny)
Deeper:
Babette’s Feast (subtitled)
My Father’s Glory/My Mother’s Castle (French, subtitled)

I haven’t had any luck with movies recently, but I had a killer Modern Family marathon last night.
