Summer days around here have been filling themselves up at a rapid pace.

I had considered camps or setting up special trips to keep us entertained this summer, but I’m glad I passed because somehow our weeks stay incredibly busy on their own.
For example, yesterday morning we ate breakfast and suited up to meet friends at a (super awesome!) kids pool.
Hailey had a blast. She is really into practicing her skills from swim lessons- holding her breath, putting her ears in the water, etc. Kaitlyn had a good time too, but her idea of fun included keeping me running after her since she has ZERO fear about walking right into the water. I think my friends and I managed a good 4 minutes of conversation in two hours, so that was nice.

We got home in time for a quick lunch, then naps, however, Kaitlyn didn’t fell asleep, which is really rare, so instead I got Hailey up early and we headed out to go meet up with more friends.
Well, well, wouldn’t you know…
I waited a few minutes, then woke Kaitlyn up to meet our friends at Clean Juice, the new and already popular organic juice bar in Birkdale.
Hailey wasted no time hopping up next to her friend to dive into an acai bowl
while I poked around a bit. I talked to owner Landon for a few minutes too, who was super friendly and happy to answer my questions. You can tell when someone is passionate about what they do because they do it well.
I’m so excited more health-conscious places are opening up in the area and am thrilled to see them all being so well received! I opted for “the hardcore one,” a juice made of spinach, kale, romaine, parsley, celery, cucumber and lemon.
It was fantastic! From there, we walked down to the fountains to meet up with the rest of our group.
Kaitlyn went straight to work collecting rocks and what not. I was excited to sit and rest for a minute, but go figure I got in about 2 words with my friends before Hailey told me she didn’t feel well.
She sat in the stroller for a few minutes, but between her insistence that she didn’t feel well and the clouds rolling in, we took off, back to the car… where she was feeling just fine by the time we pulled out. In fact, she was better than fine, she was straight up goofy.
Over tired? Maybe! Whatever it was, both kids were loopy by the time we got home. The wheels came off and so the wine came out.
Giggling and shrieking ensued through dinner, which turned into screams and chaos by bath.
That’s when I realized mayyyyyyybe we are just packing too much into our days. Given Kaitlyn’s two wake ups last night on top of everything else, I’m thinking we’ve had a little too much summer fun and perhaps a day splashing in the baby pool in the driveway and reading books cuddled in the playroom is in order for all of us.
Pulled pork/ sauerkraut/ roasted asparagus and Brussels sprouts
After all, aren’t lazy summer days some of the best ones?
What were your favorite memories of summer growing up?
Molly says
Is that someone’s pool or a public place? I want to go! Callan protested nap yesterday, too. My 7:30 bedtimes have been more like 9:30 lately and I’m not loving it. Haha. We just talked last night about picking 1 activity a day!
Brittany Dixon says
The first one is the kids pool at The Point and it is AWESOME. The have a 2-3 story waterslide too for the bigger kids. Next time I go I’ll let you know. Would love to have yall over sometime soon too!

Your kids look like they had a great day–but I guess it must have been tiring for all of you! My favorite childhood summer memories were from when my mom, brother and I would meet our friends at the beach for a few days. There were hot, fresh donuts, boogie-boarding and telescope pictures!

We have realized the same thing recently. We were packing so much into our days that Lillian got over tired and then restless. So I made the executive decision to only have one activity a day. If we go to the pool or a play date before nap, then after nap we will have quiet play time at home. And vice versa. It has been a good thing for both of us. But I still wine in the evenings because I have a toddler. 🙂
By the way, where is that pool? Is it public?
Brittany Dixon says
Wine is always appropriate no matter the kind of day 😉
The pool is private, it’s at The Point in Mooresville. I have a friend that lives there so I just tag along!

You guys really did pack in a lot! My favorite summer memories include playing outside with my friends and riding our bikes all around our neighborhood. My cousins and I would have water balloon fights every month or so with all the kids in the neighborhood. Oh the good old days! 🙂

Goodness, you’re definitely going to have your hands full with fearless little Kaitlyn, aren’t you?!? I literally LOL’d at the “fight the nap, fall asleep in the car the second we go somewhere.” Basically my son’s M.O all day, every day.he’s slso the king of, “let’s l
take the long drive to xyz so he gets in a good nap, oh look, he finally fell asleep 2 minutes before we get there…” kids.
Brittany Dixon says
Haha, YES! How do they know you are almost there before they fall asleep? I’ve had to sit in the car way too many times to let her get a few minutes of solid sleep in. Crazy kiddos!
Niki @ Life With Niki says
Wow, I love your sirracha eggs and sourdough sandwich, such beautiful pictures! I have always wanted to go to a juice bar- and can you believe I have never tried an acai bowl? On the bucket list for sure! The only thing stopping me from moving into one of these cute bars is the price… these juices are not for fainthearted when it comes to spending ;P.

I don’t remember summers being so exhausting as a kid!! My favorite part of summer was how lazy the days automatically felt. I never appreciated (before now!) how exhausted my mom must have been!
Alex @ get big, go to work says
Some of my favorite summer memories are just running around the neighborhood with friends until it was dark and our parents had to call us inside! With a Popsicle thrown in for good measure! 🙂
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
My favorite summer memories growing up are in the air conditioning reading Harry Potter all day. haha I was a bookworm!
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me says
Is there such a thing as too much summer? I do not think so in the slightest. Your girls are going to look back on these months with such sweet memories. <3
Alyssa @ RenaissanceRunnerGirl says
Your girls will look back at all the happy times with friends and family, yummy food, and fun they had, and be really grateful for it 🙂

I’ve gotta say I’m pretty jealous of your jam-packed summer days. They sure as heck beat spending 9.5-10 hour days in the office. Summer is the busy season at my job and it’s been crazy this past month. Hope you and your girls have a relaxing less packed summer day today! p.s. that juice bar looks yummy!
