Hello, good morning and happy first college football weekend of the year!!!
Yes, yes, I know it’s just a few games and only week zero and the real kick off is Labor Day weekend (best weekend of the year), but still. FOOTBALL IS BACK and we are pumped!
It’s extra special because we have family in town for it. David’s bro is with us this weekend, visiting and also going to help David with some rental cabin projects.
Speaking of rental cabins, David was at Bearolina this week and had a face to face surprise encounter with a bear. Our security camera captured it all and I’ve fallen over laughing watching it on repeat no less than 400 times. I’m going to do my best to add it here. Fingers crossed it works!
.
HEY BEAR.
🤣
Saturday we are having David’s parents over, too, for burgers and football and plenty of chitchat. I love these kinds of weekends. Makes me want to pull out the fall bins. Soon…
But first, here are a few things I’m loving lately!
The Perfect Petite Tank
I love when petite people share things that fit them well. My friend Lexi from Lexi’s Clean Kitchen shared this affordable tank the other day and I immediately went and bought it in 3 colors. It’s wide enough on the shoulders to easily cover a real bra and the length is perfect to stay tucked into jeans but not have so much leftover material that it’s bunchy (short girl problems). I meant to grab a better picture but this is all I had on my phone. For reference, I’m 5’1″ and wearing a small.

Chicken Salad Made from Canned Chicken
I just used my last jar of canned chicken that I made using my electric pressure canner and I’m plotting when I can make a new batch because I LOVE having it on hand for a protein-rich lunch option. Using my homemade relish and serving it with a homemade pickle really feels like such a flex to me at this age and stage, too. 😅
Chicken salad combo I’m loving: canned chicken, mayo, celery, dried dill, sweet relish, a squirt of Dijon, finely diced red onion, salt and pepper.
Also, please observe the visual representation of late August currently my counter: a few lingering summer tomatoes and a pumpkin (both harvested from my garden club garden). The perfect hybrid of still summer but fall is knocking.

Lip Liner Stain
OK, this lip liner stain will freak you out when you apply it. But 5-10 minutes later, you peel it off and it leaves a subtle color on your lips that won’t rub off on straws, cups, or his collar. (Oh my gosh I just cracked up when I wrote that but doesn’t it sound like a cheesy, sexy lipstick commercial?!)
It’s marketed as a lip liner stain, but I use it on my whole lip. Then I can just put chapstick or a gloss over it for a finished look for the day. Speaking of a finished look, I asked ChatGPT how I should do my make up for day to day, then followed the steps. Honestly, I was pretty impressed!

Take a Chance Dazzle
I’ve been a fan of the rosy, berry color on my nails lately and still absolutely love that I’m consistent with doing my nails for the first time in my life thanks to Dazzle Dry. It’s been awesome to hear how many of you have also fallen in love with this non-toxic nail polish that lasts weeks after drying in only minutes. I just ordered this Take a Chance color because it’s going on my nail September 1st in honor of the kick off to -ber month season!
If you’re new to Dazzle Dry, I highly recommend starting with the mini kit, which comes with everything you need. There are a lot of color options to choose from!

Color shown here only comes in this mini kit flight.
Homeschool Morning Time
I’m very happy to report that even with a high schooler and a middle schooler, morning time together is still a hit. We are finishing up our book of Queen Eleanor today, which has read like a medieval drama (very intriguing and enjoyable) and will then start on 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens while still alternating with history.
This gentle start to our days is such a blessing and I’m so tickled that both girls feel the same. Spending 45 minutes reading, discussing, laughing, and crafting starts us out on a connected and happy foot… even if we’re collectively groaning about math an hour later.
A quick snap from my morning viewpoint because I take so many pictures like this trying to savor/capture these ordinary moments I enjoy so much.

Animals
Can I end on a random love? Animals. I love having a dog and chickens and if I was able, I’d probably throw a goat or mini donkey into the mix. I just love the joy they add to life. Finley, at almost 5 years old, is such a good dog. Sure, she barks a bit much at anything she catches the slightest glance of outside the window, but she’s so happy and snuggly (on her own terms) and is truly my shadow.
And the chickens? I do think they are more peaceful now with Earl at his new home. The best part is that the girls have been out to visit them SO much more. We’re holding them, feeding them, and even took Heyhey on her first golf cart ride. Animals are the best.

That’s all I’ve got for today, but I’d love to hear something bringing you joy lately, if you’re up for sharing! Hope you have a stellar weekend. Happy college football season. <3
