Ever wake up and your head is just in a fog? That’s how I felt yesterday. I just couldn’t get rolling. Apparently I wasn’t the only one, as Kaitlyn woke up early and Hailey woke up cranky. Astrology folks, was mercury in retrograde? I mean, I even overcooked my egg!
Oh the drama. (wink)
We pulled out the old standby to put a smile on our faces.
I even let Hailey jump three purple spots when she only spun two so she could glide through the peppermint forest, pushing my Monica Geller tendencies down and biting my lip.
I’m only half-kidding.
Our wonderful sitter showed up soon after so I could live the dream. Running errands solo obviously.
Post office, bank, another stop or two and picking up some items I need for my WCCB Rising segment on Friday.
I got home and Kaitlyn was straight up refusing nap, so I fed her hummus on a spoon (one of her favorite snacks) while I ate lunch and contemplated our next move.
Hailey was especially clingy too and it just seemed we all needed to shake things up. So when Hailey mentioned lemonade, I decided there was only one place to go.
Did you know their lemonade is only made with three ingredients? Water, lemon and sugar.
I know it’s fast food, but Chick-fil-A as a company impresses me. The one close to us is always slammed, yet they still run it so efficiently and the people are always SO happy.
What’s that you ask? Just four employees happily offering a small perk to customers while they waited in line.
Additionally, they had three dressed up cows wandering around, I won’t lie, it totally turned my day around to see Hailey giggle and wave furiously at the cows, despite the air conditioning in my car officially kicking the bucket about 2 minutes later.
Luckily we were headed to cool off anyway!
We met up with Julie and Caitlin at the coolest little beach and let the kids go wild. Henry and Hailey got along swimmingly (hardy har har) and took off adventuring together the whole time.
Kaitlyn was livid when I tried to keep her in a float, so I gave in and set her free, then spent the rest of the time running around after her. The kid has no fear.
Still, with sweet baby Claire sleeping on Caitlin, the older two tromping around together and Sadie 100% entertained with sticks
we managed to actually chat a lot, which isn’t always the case on play dates. It was a fantastic way to pass the afternoon.
We all jumped back in the car sandy and exhausted, so after showering off at home, I let Mickey Mouse take over while I headed to the kitchen with Kaitlyn.
Remember those days growing up of exhausting yourself at the pool or beach? To me, nothing was better than playing hard then getting clean and cuddling up on the couch. It’s really the coziest feeling!
I made dinner for the girls (I don’t highly recommend the cauliflower fries; they were meh), then they both crashed hard.
I wasn’t far behind, as I was pretty whipped from the day too, so after making Jessica’s Garlic Kale and Cashew Fried Rice (which was delicious!)
I collapsed on the couch, remote in hand.
And a quick shout out to David, who insisted I do so while he cleaned the kitchen. Whataman.
We ended the night with FRIENDS, thus my inspiration in titling this post. Because, really, this post is nothing more than one long ramble. But it’s almost the week so whoop whoop!
What’s randomly going on in your life right now?

Well handled, Mom!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
There’s no better way to end the day than with an episode of Friends!
And I love how your girls like to stay moving (although exhausting for you I’m sure). Such fun ages!
Brittany Dixon says
They are such fun ages! Exhausting yes, but I’m so obsessed with them (just as any mom is I’m sure :)). They’re just so funny!
John J. says
Way to adapt, Mom. Can’t go wrong with lake time!

As a kid, there’s nothing better than a big day of play at the beach. Or when you’re an adult! I’m dreaming of the day we finally get a boat.
Heather@hungryforbalance says
There must be something in the air because Matilda has been a bit of a handful lately too. I got those summertime blues, you know? We are leaving for Atlanta tomorrow and then on to Savannah on Monday. Traveling with a toddler is always fun!
Brittany Dixon says
I agree- I think the craziness/lack of routine can be overwhelming for the little ones (and sometimes me too ;)). Safe travels!! I love Savannah!

Sometimes those random days are the best. Way to go with the flow, though, and turn the frowns upside down. It’s amazing how helpful it can be to get cranky kids out of the house and completely mix it up. I used to balk at the idea of going out when everyone woke up in a foul mood, but it turns out that is usually the BEST way to fix a rotten mood!
Lindsey @ Simply Lindsey says
Sounds like a fun day! I love chick-fil-a! They always go above and beyond and I LOVE their spicy chicken sandwich. 🙂
Alyssa @ RenaissanceRunnerGirl says
Sometimes the best days don’t seem that way when you first start out, but then they turn out sunny and bright! Candy Land is always a good go to…
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
Way to make the most of a day that started out super challenging! I love Chick Fil A too!
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me says
Window washing? Thats incredible guest service, and I am beyond impressed. Chik fil A is a huge hit around here, and this makes me want to go more often.
Michelle says
Hi! That does look like a fun beach! Can I ask where it is? I am always looking for a swimming area in Charlotte that is dog friendly.. Thanks!
Brittany Dixon says
It’s in Cornelius, but I’d have to ask Julie where exactly because I followed their car through the winding streets to get there. I take Koda to Lake Norman State Park- their trails have a ton of lake access for dogs that works really well!
Niki @ Life With Niki says
Yes- those foggy days definitely make their appearances in my life. More frequently than I appreciate too! Now you have me craving cauliflower fries- I had no idea they were a thing!
Alex @ get big, go to work says
Looks like such a fun lake day. And what a way to turn around the brain fog and set everyone in a good mood. I’ve definitely had a few of those mornings this past week.

i miss having chickfila locations all around me. we have a few around here but not like in charleston! they’re seriously the best. your dinner looks SO good!
Laura @FitMamaLove says
Putting kids in water makes everything better! Love how they crash after a day of water play! You dinner looks delicious!
Ruth Meaney says
That fried rice looks and sounds delicious!! I remember that feeling so well after playing in water and sun all day. Feeling tired, warm and so happy. Often we would eat fish and chips and watch cricket (Australia!). The random thing that happened today was about 15cm of snow at our house!!! WOOHOO!!
Sherry says
Looks like a fun day for all! I thought that was Koda swimming in the lake.
Cassie says
About to fix up a salad for lunch. Grumbling tummy over here.
