Thank Goodness Birthday Calories Don’t Count.
Yesterday was a day of indulgence. In every sense of the word. Sure I started off strong with my veggie egg scramble, and I even started Week 9 of C25K! What am I doing this week? Running for 30 Minutes straight!!
It was hot out!
Where are you fall?? But I pushed through and felt strong! My left ankle didn’t even hurt at all. Thanks for the advice! Ice & stretching must have done some good.
But after a healthy breakfast and some exercise, I remembered it was my birthday… so I decided to take full advantage.
Starting with with lunch from my favorite local Chinese place:
Broccoli & shrimp in brown sauce… but brown rice is healthy, right??
It was delicious! And I promptly swelled up to the size of a beach ball right after eating this. Ahh… scrumptious sodium!
Guess I ought to deflate my swollen feet, so obviously a pedicure was in order…
…complete with trashy tabloid, of course. Will Maci find Bentley a better father figure?! Oh Teen Mom…
There might have been a small nap tucked in my afternoon some where, too. Then I saw some clients… so that’s productive, right?!
The only nutrients I squeezed in yesterday were in the form of a quick afternoon snack:
Carrots, zucchini & celery with a side of POM juice. The fabulous people at POM Wonderful sent me a case of their POM juice. I have yet to get very creative with it, but I love drinking it mixed with 1/2 seltzer water & 1/2 POM juice ( above I mixed it up that way in the bottle because I find it to be a bit strong if drinking the juice solo).
For birthday dinner, Hubbs and I tried out a new Indian place that just opened up, Mint.
I don’t actually know much about Indian food, but am always up for a new adventure in eating!
Turn out, Indian food contains some super healthy properties that can help in decreasing inflammation (which is helpful in prevention of Alzheimer’s, cancer, arthritis, Crohn’s disease…)
Find out more HERE.
To start, they brought a very thin, crispy bread to the table with 2 sauces for dipping. To be honest, it reminded me of chips & salsa… so you know I wouldn’t complain about that!
We couldn’t possibly let the meal pass us by without ordering naan. We went with the garlic naan, which had cilantro sprinkled on top. Is cilantro traditionally used in Indian food? Either way, it was soft, flavorful, warm & delicious!
For my main, I ordered a vegetarian dish that contained eggplant, tomato, onion, peas & a few other ingredients I can’t remember. I wish I would have written it down. It was SPICY & really tasty!
I’ll be honest, Indian food isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing food, but for what it lacks in appearance, it makes up for in taste! MMM!
Hubbs ordered a dish with goat in it. I was a little hesitant, but in the name of being adventurous, I tried a bite. Tastes like pot roast. 🙂 But I’ll stick to my eggplant for now!
We wrapped up the evening with cards & presents at home. Boy ‘o boy did I feel loved yesterday! There are so many ways for people to say happy birthday nowadays, and I appreciated every phone call, text, facebook message, blog comment, tweet & in-person hug!
Thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes yesterday- they truly helped make my day even sweeter!
Tomorrow I’m going into new goals that I’m setting for my 27th year of life!
Do you give yourself new goals on your birthday?
If so, what are they?
Gracie @ Girl Meets Health says
“TGBCDC”….hahahaha 😛 HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!!
I don’t usually set goals on my birthday, but I definitely have some hefty goals in mind for this 23rd year of my life! My half birthday was the other day, so I still have a solid 6 months to complete them 🙂
Samantha @ Health, Happiness & Skinny Jeans says
I agree, birthday calories don’t count. Glad you had a great day!! Happy Birthday!
Holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
Sometimes I feel like all I do is set goals! I set them monthly and then each year I think of a few “big goals” to conquer. I can’t wait to hear what you come up with!
I agree about Indian food — it doesn’t look good, but it sure tastes good! That garlig naan looks so amazing. I’m glad you had a nice birthday!

Congrats on pulling through the heat for an awesome run 🙂 I’m asking Fall the same question and begging it to hurry up and get here already!!
Birthday calories totally don’t count..I always look at it like this: you don’t want your last or first meal as “whatever age” to be diet food!!

I am totally ready for fall. I’m glad you had such a good day yesterday 🙂
Alexa @ The Girl In Chucks says
It is totally embarrassing, but I’ll be honest: I’ve spent time watching Teen Mom on MTV.
Shhh! Seriously! It’s embarrassing! But Maci is my favorite out of the mothers on that show. She is the only one who even remotely acts responsible and not like a total idiot. And Bently is super cute….
Not really a fan of Indian food…but Naan is some seriously good eats.
Glad you had a great birthday!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
Mmmmm….Naan….
Indian Butter Chicken is the BEST. You made me crave it just now…perhaps I’ll be making that for dinner…:)

Looks like you had a great birthday! Indian food is my favorite so it sounds perfect to me =) I’ve had goat several times and it DOES taste just like pot roast, that’s how I always describe it! So funny

Happy belated birthday! It sounds like you celebrated appropriately!
I agree with you about Indian food–it’s not very pretty, but oh so VERY yummy! Naan is amazing, and your eggplant dish sounds wonderful.
Hope you’re enjoying being 27 so far! <3
