Happpppppy Halloween!!!
How was this only a year ago?! She looks so little!
That’s about all the Halloween content I have for today. If you’re looking for more, check on my healthy Halloween snacks from a week or two back.
Because today’s post is one giant virtual thank you hug! I read every comment on here, twitter, instagram and facebook and floated through the entire day. You guys made me feel so loved. AND I’m super excited to hear so many of you are expecting around the same time. Hooray, let’s all go eat pickles!
For those with zero interest in kiddos or growing bellies, I’m happy to report I’m getting back in a cooking groove and look forward to sharing many meal plans, favorite foods and holiday goodies.
In other words, I’ll do my best I can to keep a balance.
However, I have kept detailed notes throughout the journey so far and plan on recapping more than you probably care to read, but selfishly I really want to have this time to look back on.
For a brief overview, it took us a little longer than expected to create this little miracle. Nothing crazy, but since Hailey was the best surprise we ever got, my overconfident ovaries were a bit taken aback.
…You just said ovaries.
Yup, there might be a little personal talk up in here moving forward, but I promise to keep it PG-rated.
I’m hoping to touch on dietary changes I credit with helping regulate my crazy cycles, how we found out, a few unnerving moments in the beginning, how I’ve been feeling and my current favorite, what do the old wives tales say about this sweet baby’s sex?!
In all seriousness, we are continually praying for a healthy baby. So far things look good.
Things have been more challenging this time with nausea, but I’m finally turning the corner. I’ll be 13 weeks on Friday and almost out of the first trimester. My due date is May 9, though the baby has consistently been measuring 4-5 days ahead. Maybe s/he will be here in time to celebrate cousin Kyla’s 1st birthday on May 7??
However, today is a day full of Halloween fun! I’m in charge of our neighborhood Halloween party, which is proving to be more of a task than I anticipated, so I’m off to get things rolling.
However, I’d love your input…
Are there any pregnancy details you’d like for me to elaborate on?
And have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Karen says
Virtual hugs from Keely and I. Couldn’t be happier for you and the family. I’d love to hear how you and David decided now is the time for another baby. Bob and I have talked about it but I think we’d both like to wait to really make our decision after Keely’s 3rd birthday which will be January 2015. My body (ovaries) went through some crazy stuff after I had Keely so I am nervous about having another one. Hope you girls have an BOOTASTIC Halloween!!
Alex says
All of them! I love your blog and l love the family/baby content. Keep writing about topics YOU want to write about and the rest will fall into place.
Im curious to hear how your diet helped you conceive (I hope I read that correctly…). I love the effect diet can have on people. My friend tried to conceive for TWO years with doctors help, IVF, etc with now luck and then went on a PCOS diet and boom…one month later!!!
ellen says
^^ i second the comments about diet. we’ve been trying for a while. i just started seeing an acupuncturist and am about to embark on tweaking diet. would love to hear what worked for you!
also, CONGRATS 🙂
Whitney says
Any baby details you want to share I will read! Trying for a baby is on my radar in the next couple of years so I love reading about other’s experiences! Congrats! 🙂

Congratulations Brittany!!!!
Danica @ It's Progression says
Congrats again! I’m looking forward to reading about what you did to regulate your cycles and about this little journey you went on to get here…praying everything is healthy with this pregnancy and baby as well!
Katie says
Excited to read your stories! Congratulations! I’m due April 22nd with our second, which was a surprise after a long-fought-for IVF baby who is now 15 months. Crazy how every time can be so different!
Kelli D. says
As a mother who is currently expecting a second little one as well, I love to hear everything related to baby! I am fascinated by the entire process and the miracle that makes it all worth it in the end. Please share any detail you feel comfortable!
Specifically, I would love to hear how you are preparing Hailey for the new baby. My son is a few months younger than H but I am worried about how he will react. He is the only Grandchild and we are expecting a girl which will steal even a little bit more of the spotlight. We are planning on getting him a baby for Christmas talk about baby sissy all the time but I still think it will be a shock when we actually bring this little lady into his home 🙂 Congrats again!!
Avery @Young Aspirations says
Can’t wait to hear more! Our due dates are only 3 days apart. Love having sometime who’s in the same stage to refer to! I’m interested to know if the wives tales were right about Hailey? I’m told I’m having a girl so we’ll see! Happy Halloween to your family of four!
Jodi says
I am sure I will enjoy hearing all about your pregnancy! Funny thing, you mentioned it took a little longer than expected, but I was actually thinking how nice the space btween your two kiddos is. I am loving my girls, but I remember early on wishing I had had more one on one time with Avery before life got crazy with two. So I think you will love the 2.5 years btween them! Congrats again! Happy Halloween!!
Lindsey says
Anything you want to share! I am 39 weeks pregnant today and have gone back and read your old pregnancy posts so am excited to read along this time.
Kate says
Congrats and a big hug to you! My first is a little younger than Hailey (she will be 2 on Saturday) and I have a 10 week old. We had the opposite problem from you guys…our first took 10 months to conceive, so we were anticipating at least 3ish or so months of trying for the second…and got a big surprise after a single attempt!
Leslie says
Congrats to you guys!!! I would love to hear about any dietary changes you made to help you conceive. Our first was also a surprise and I think my ovaries got a little full of themselves too:). This time around it’s taking longer than expected and I feel like I’m losing my mind!!
Lauren says
I would love to hear more about how you changed your diet. We’ve been trying since January and I’m starting to get impatient lol.
Giselle@myhealthyhappyhome says
I’d love to hear about what you changed to help you conceive! We’ve been trying since June and haven’t had any luck. Although I hadn’t had a cycle since May and finally got it back at the beginning of this month so we’re hoping things start looking up 🙂 I’d still love to hear your tips and what worked for you!
Urban Wife says
Any baby/family posts are always fun (and informative since I’m a newish mom myself) to read! Praying your baby continues growing healthy!
Shelby says
Super huge congrats to you and your family!!! I have loved reading all about hailey and can’t wait to read your adventure with another little babe!
Jen says
Congrats! (Didn’t get to post yesterday!) It is CRAAZY how many people are pregnant right now! My Hailey turns one TODAY and I think I’m finally ready to start trying again (there’s something magical about the first birthday!) I am extremely interested in the dietary changes you made to help regulate your cycle. I’ve always been irregular and it took awhile to get pregnant the first time. I was hoping by some magic my cycles would regulate themselves post baby, but they have not. I know I need to buckle down and watch my sugars, etc, so any tips you have would be awesome!
Jen says
EEE, congrats! I’ll be 14 weeks this Friday, so we’re super close! This is my first baby though, so anything and everything you write about this pregnancy or comments on how it compares to your last pregnancy will make me happy!
katie says
I love baby updates! The standard weekly check-in gets a little old, but themed posts are great! Some people make a separate baby page, but I don’t mind it being on the regular page!
Jessica says
I’d love to hear everything, probably since I’m pregnant too 🙂 . Especially how you have handled the nausea. I was sick with my son too but I would just take some B6 and feel better. This time around… nausea/carsick/hungover feeling has been almost constant. (Its getting a little better now around 10 weeks). The worst part was just standing up too fast would make me sick and dizzy so workouts have been out of the question and its been killing me.
Congrats again!
christina says
ya yay yayyyy! still so excited for ya!
Elizabeth @ My Neon Running Shoes says
Congrats!! I can’t wait to hear how everything has been/will go! My son is turning two in two weeks and we are also due in May! It took us longer than expected too with this one after our surprise baby haha. So I feel like I can relate. Best wishes!
Jessica says
Congrats! I wouldn’t mind hearing more about baby/pregnancy life! Specifically diet and how it relates to fertility. It took us 2 years to conceive after finding out I had PCOS so I’d love to hear about your journey. Not everyone is a fertile myrtle and the more people talk about it the better!
Jen says
I want to hear every single detail, including the TMI stuff. Yay ovaries!
Crystal says
I just need hope that this all day long nausea will eventually go away and that I’ll want healthy food again! 🙂
Maria says
While my future babies are exactly that, FUTURE, I do really enjoy reading about pregnancies, so don’t hold back! I always love hearing about how you told your husband/parents/family/friends. Those stories always make me so happy. And cravings of course are always fun!
And speaking of TMI, I wrote a post about adventures in menstrual cups…can’t bring myself to publish it. One day…if I knew there was a 0% chance my boss/brother/guy friends couldn’t find my blog 🙂
Megan says
Congratulations!
Also pregnant with #2, also due in May (I’m 11 weeks), also having more intense nausea this time. I look forward to seeing posts about the pregnancy, and even the back story. Hope you are feeling better as you move past the first tri!
jade says
Everyone is always asking once #1 gets here when #2 is going to show up and it’s like Man! Sometimes these things take time. We are also trying for #2 but things are taking their time as well, it gets frustrating on my end when each cycle doesn’t come to ‘fruition’ but then I think I stress myself out which leads to a poor cycle. I had a cousin that after their first it took four years (and they were trying the entire time) to have the second and then it took only a year after that to have their 3rd, so that puts a little perspective for myself. In the end, CONGRATS!!!
Hallie@ChasingHallie says
I want to hear it all! TMI away!
Molly was a big ol’ surprise for us to so I am interested to hear how about your reluctant ovaries. I am fearful it will take us longer than we think when its time.
Jen says
Congratulations, so exciting!!
Can’t wait to hear all the details that you are willing to share. Hope you continue to feel good.
Chelsey says
Yay for all things babies! I love reading pregnancy and baby posts. They’re my favorite! As someone who also had a ridiculous time getting pregnant, I feel for you mama. There’s nothing like the feelin when you see two lines!
KatieTX says
Pregnancy details are my favorite. I am on Month 5 of TTC, so please tell me all your secrets.
Elena@Apple Pie & Pastelitos says
Congrats, Brittany!! My first was born on May 1st, and I’m pregnant with our second and due early March. Yay for spring babies!! Seriously, so excited for you and for Hailey to have a little sibling! Would love to hear how you find out, how you told David and your families, and just differences in pregnancies you’ve noticed so far. 🙂
Halsy says
Congratulations! I am also expecting number 2…3 days after you so I look forward to reading any pregnancy updates you share. I actually found your blog when I was pregnant by your pregnancy updates. Its amazing how each pregnancy can be so different! I have had a lot more issues early on this time. My first is only around 18 months now and I really worry about how she will handle having a sibling. Any helpful information on how you are preparing Hailey for a sibling would be appreciated. Also I’m finding it hard to keep up with my little one so any posts on what life looks like for you these days would be helpful!
Liz says
I just started trying to get pregnant with my second and hoping your good mojo will come my way:). Wondering how you are talking to Hailey about the baby and did you tell her you were feeling sick? If so did you explain why you felt nauseous or tired? Thanks!
Emily S says
I love hearing about other people’s pregnancies, TMI and all, so overshare as much as you want 🙂 It’s fun to relate to and encourage after having 2 🙂
Brittany says
I haven’t read your blog in forever! Just saw your little announcement! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to see pics!

So happy for you! I am a long time reader and do not comment often, but I loved reading your insights on raising Hayley. I fully intend to re-read many of your posts when my husband and I choose to start a family in the future.
I look forward to all the information with the pregnancy…you always keep it real and share true to your heart…I appreciate that!!

I love reading about people’s pregnancy journey’s, so whatever you want to share is great!!

I am coming to love your blog as one of my favorites. You really always make me smile and you’re so fun!:) I have no pregnancy advice for you because I’m not even married and children aren’t possible for me, however I do have a virtual hug to send back and wanted to say Happy Halloween!:) I hope you and your precious little one enjoy it!:)
Dominique @ That's What Domi Said says
I’d love to hear more about your diet + fertility experience! The nutrition nerd in me is fascinated by that kind of thing!
Leah says
My husband and I are trying for the first time, so I’d love to hear about the following….
-How soon you were able to take a pregnancy test to find out that you were pregnant
-How long it took to get pregnant both the first and second time
-Any advice for those of us newbies!!
Bethany says
Looking forward to the posts to come as you mentioned them! As a mom I really appreciate and respect how open and candid you are, including your pregnancy and motherhood journeys!
Amber says
Congrats!
My husband and I are TTC, and I have yet to get a period after going off of birth control (6 months and counting). After seeing a naturopath, I am starting to change my diet as well, so I am curious to see what worked for you! Knowing that everyone is different of course, but it’s always good to see what works for some people.
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
I am SO SO SO excited for you!!! Happy Halloween to you and your beautiful growing family. 🙂
Sarah (SHU) says
Late on this but soooo happy and excited for you!!! It was the total opposite for me – #1 huge struggle, #2 total surprise 🙂 but both pregnancies have been similar so far and I wish the same for you!!! Hailey will be an amazing big sis!!!!
Meg says
Thrilled for you! What a lucky baby to have such a sweet mama! Look forward to hearing about all of it. We are starting to have conversations about number two (have a 19-month-old boy now),so I take good notes from pretty much everything you write!
Cassie says
I would love to hear more about what changes you made to conceive! My husband and I are trying right now, and I am doing everything possible to make it work (naturally)! =)
Natasha Carneiro says
Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!
Please do share your secrets of how you changed. We are on year 5 of ttc naturally, eventually going too Vitalab on the 18th, but I also wish for a healthy baby and healthy pregnancy.
Your blog has inspired me so much in the past few months to eat and live a much healthier lifestyle.
Ellen says
I am expecting #2 in mid April and found that the first 15 weeks or so were SUPER tough. I was far more nauseous and irritable than I was with my daughter. I guess I underestimated how much energy I put into my toddler…so exhausted! Gets lots of rest, I felt like napping helped my tummy. I’m excited to hear about meals and cooking during pregnancy. I feel like I neglect myself nutritionally but make sure my daughter eats healthy all day.
Kassie says
I’ve been a reader for quite a long time 🙂 I found your site when I was pregnant with my daughter (who is 16 months now) and have been a close follower since. I love your blog and all of the great topics that you share.
I decided to finally comment because we have the EXACT same due date for baby #2!!! Congratulations to you and I can’t wait to hear your pregnancy updates so far!
Katie says
I’d also love to hear about your ttc experience! We have a 17 month-old, and are just going to start trying for number two. I love everything baby related – bring on the baby posts!

Orrrrrrrr, baby could hold off until May 16th and we can be birthday besties! 🙂
Taylor says
Congratulations on your pregnancy!! So excited for you and to read about your progress 🙂
Michelle says
Evan was due May 8th – although he consistently measured a May 4th due date…and then he was born on May 12th. Lol. Maybe this one will hold off until the 11th? Having a Mothers Day baby was pretty awesome!! I got a bunch of gifts from the hospital 🙂
Molly @ Duchess of Fork says
My mom’s birthday is May 9th! That would be the perfect birthday for your little one. Regardless, congrats and get ready to join the mom of two club. It’s not for the faint of heart, but of course it’s wonderful!
