Let’s chat a little about breakfast.
Breakfast on weekdays at my house starts around 8:00 am, about 3 hours after I actually wake up (the former health coach me is wagging her finger for breaking the “eat within an hour of waking” rule, but so far warm lemon water, followed by a splash of black coffee is working for me).
It’s not just because of the food, though I do love my go-to breakfast.
But everyone is just so happy. The girls are well-rested and full of giggles.
Hailey jumps up every 30 seconds to help feed Kaitlyn or to give me a hug or to simply just dance a little around the table. Part of me feels like I should be trying harder to explain table manners, but most of me just doesn’t care. I like to embrace the silly.
Koda always jumps up to take her position as clean up crew and always seems to luck out with a little nibble of something.
The conversations are unpredictable and the questions are endless.
Mommy, what did you look like when you were a little girl?
Mommy, listen to this song- la la la LAAA I love mommy and dad.
Mommy, what is Kaitlyn’s voice going to sound like?
Mom, what do butterflies do when they come to us? (???)
I love these little people and their busy minds.
To try and get my crew out the door before 9:00 is a challenge, as I really do relish in our slow start, and inevitably I’m always packing them into the car, leaving a trail of jammies and toys behind me.
I don’t mind though, because once the day is rolling it doesn’t stop… bootcamp, library, post office, then a stop at home for lunch and naps.
Picking up toys, throwing in laundry and back in the car…
Before I know it, I’m back in the kitchen working on dinner while the girls run laps around me or squeal from the playroom.
By then my sweet girls have usually gotten a little crazy.
Dinner isn’t nearly as calm as breakfast, and the chaos leads us right into bath, stories and bed.
Then it’s dinner time for me.
I soak up the end of the day, the quiet house, the time with David snuggled on the couch… and yes, last night the Bachelorette too, which makes up for my favorite non-Mom time of day. Such nice little bookends sandwiching the chaos of life right now!
So yes, breakfast. I dig it. What about you?
What is your favorite time of the day?
Laura says
I pick early morning too! I hate pulling myself out of bed, but my day always goes better when I get up before the rest of my family.
It makes it somehow easier for me to bear to know other people are up with the sunrise 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
I feel the same way! 5am feels like I’m all alone but when I learn how many other people are up (and a lot of them already working out!) at that time, it eases my pain 😉
Hilary says
I am right there with ya! I love my mornings in general, but getting to the office a little earlier than everyone and enjoying the peace and quiet of the morning can not be beat! I love taking my time settling in, and digging into the breakfast I pack with no interruptions!
Ruth Meaney says
That is such a cool shopping trolley car!!! We don’t have those in Australia! I love the first moment in the morning when I get toddler snuggles and we talk about what to have for breakfast. But the moment she falls asleep at night is also pretty glorious too 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
Haha, yes that’s our favorite kid grocery cart! The girls run to get in it when we see it. And I must agree, toddler snuggles are the sweetest! <3
Sherry says
Loved seeing your “life in a day” with you and the girls. I love the morning–quiet & peaceful–a cup of coffee on the porch watching life at the lake awakening or sitting at the computer getting the day started. My breakfast today was a BAT—that is a bacon, avacodo, and tomato (home grown from a neighbor) sandwich—YUMMY!
Kate says
I love breakfast because it’s “me time”! I wake up first and always a couple hours before I have to go into work, so can have a slowww morning.
Your girls are so cute- I love all the off-the-wall questions kiddos ask!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
Breakfast is great! I love the quiet time in the morning with a cup of coffee and the news on TV!
Alex @ get big, go to work says
Breakfast is definitely my favorite meal of the day, but I think my favorite time of day is at the end after work. My husband and I take a walk when we get home and catch up on our days and then wind down on the couch with snuggles too. It’s such a great way to end the day and lead into the next.
Brittany Dixon says
Oh I love the idea of evening walks together! We did this as a family growing up and I’d love to get back to doing it myself someday. What a great tradition!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
Aw, I can see why breakfast would be your favorite part of the day! It sounds like a fun time with the girls 🙂
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood says
I love the mornings too – at least, after I get to a state of awake. My dude literally will roll around on the flour laughing hysterically with a toy and gives me sloppy baby kisses. But my favorite lately is the 20-30 minutes post nap. It’s the only time my son will actually cuddle with me, and we sit on the couch toget her and watch Mickey while he’s super clingy and I love it.
Brittany Dixon says
Kaitlyn is sometimes clingy after nap too and it’s precious. Aren’t those the moments you just want to hang on to?! I can never get enough snuggles.
Heather says
I would have to agree… early mornings are my favorite as well mostly because everyone is in a good mood, and I usually get morning snuggles from my munchkins. I love the weekend when we have no plans, so we all just laze about in jammies and the kids bring me “coffee” from their little kitchen while I sip the real thing.
Brittany Dixon says
I love that your kids bring you coffee! Not sure I should admit to this, but sometimes Hailey brings me wine… oh dear… 😉
Heather says
Ha ha, well if it’s any consolation if there’s a wine glass out, my 19 month old points and immediately says, “Mommy’s.”
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
I love breakfast and the morning time. I have the house to myself w/ Ryder. Everything is quiet except for the birds chirping. It’s so refreshing. Sounds like your mornings are pretty good, too. 🙂
Parita @ myinnershakti says
Talk about starting the day off on the best foot! 🙂 Sounds like a lot of fun!
If I had to choose, I would say the time right before bed is my favorite because I am either hanging out with Vishnu (who typically hasn’t been home for over 12 hours) or I’m reading in bed (my happy place).
Brittany Dixon says
I love the sound of reading in bed but I can get about 5 pages in before I pass out- ha! Still, so cozy. What a great happy place 🙂
Marjorie @APinchOfHealthy says
I am with you on breakfast! Partly for the food, but also because my son is usually so cheery in the mornings.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Morning is the best! The whole routine from waking up and then ending with coffee (which I drink after breakfast) is my favorite! So peaceful and starts at 4am!
Niki @ Life With Niki says
I LOVE early mornings- when the weather is a bit cool and its before anyone else has really gotten the chance to wake up. I feel very productive at that time, and the notion of a yummy breakfast never fails to make me happy :).
Sarah S says
I love the morning time too! We get up about the same time as my husband so we are all able to eat breakfast together. It’s a quiet time of the day and then my little one is a happy thing playing and coming over to me for periodic snuggles 🙂
Danielle @ The Soul Simple Life says
I would say I have two favorite times of day. The first would be early morning when my daughter first wakes up – I am an “attachment” parent-er so she is in bed with me, and I just eat up those morning snuggles before the chaos of the day kicks in! I also love our evening walk/park dates together. As a full time work from home mom, I don’t always feel “present” with Brooke because I am constantly on the phone and computer with my job, so I love those leisurely walks where we get to explore, smell flowers and really just take our time to enjoy the moment.
Brittany Dixon says
What a special time of day! I’d love to snuggle all night with my girls, but they don’t seem to be able to sleep if I am with them- they just want to play 😉 I’d love to try be able to sleep with them occassinally because it would just be so sweet <3
Samantha says
I wish that I could get up before everyone else! I am working on it though, haha. My favorite time of day is when I am nursing my little man before his bedtime. The light in our bedroom is so soft and he is just in such a good mood. It makes me so happy!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh I am so with you on that one! Nursing is my favorite and I’m dreading the day I’ll be done for good. It’s just such a quiet, sweet time <3
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says
I love my morning run followed by breakfast – it’s my peaceful thinking and energizing time!
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me says
Now that I am home for the summer, I love breakfast just as much. Starting each day with a meal with my mom is unlike anything else. I have been so blessed with the amount of time I have had while at home!
