I am beside myself with excitement to finally share the project I’ve been working on with you! For many months, and I might even say years, I’ve been putting every scrap of my free time into this…
A Mom’s Practical Guide to Baby-Led Weaning
A detailed BOOK stuffed full of everything anyone could ever want to know about baby led weaning!
Wait, hold on, what?
Let me back up for a second and explain how I got here. When Hailey was approaching 6 months I started researching methods of introducing solids to babies. In my research I came across baby-led weaning, the method of introducing babies to solids that forgoes the reliance on traditional purees and instead starts babies off with real, solid foods, prepared appropriately of course.
I was hooked on the idea. I started trying to find out everything I could about this method, but found very little true information that answered my questions- Was it safe? Would she get enough nutrition? Are there any benefits or drawbacks to this method? How the heck do you even do it?
I wasn’t able to find a source that answered all my questions and felt I had to just jump in somewhat blindly and try it.
Well, as many of you might know, we LOVED it. It worked so well for us and I credit Hailey’s continuous adventurous eating habits (at now three years old) to baby-led weaning. We are using and loving it for Kaitlyn (my little cover model) now too. Baby-led weaning is what sparked the creation of Munchkin Meals as well.
After becoming such big fans of the time-saving method, I couldn’t shake the idea that someone needed to write a more thorough book on the topic and David finally looked at me and said, well, do it then. A couple years, a ridiculous number of hours of research and plenty of messy, first-hand experience later, I did.
The book, which is now available for purchase through Amazon is a result of my desire to answer the numerous questions I had in the beginning and provide insight into the practice for any moms (or dads!) out there interested in introducing their babies to real food in a practical way.
I am incredibly proud to finally introduce it to you after so many months working so hard on it behind the scenes.
Thank you so much for your support and happy eating!
I always requested bbq chicken as a child for my birthday dinner. My youngest is 4 months and in a couple months I plan to try baby led weaning with her! I was always scared to try it with my first, but not see the great benefits!

I am so excited about this! I am a Registered Dietitian and am currently working on my Master’s Research Project on….Baby-Led Weaning!! In fact, my initial research on this is what first led me to you blog and now I am a daily reader! You are absolutely right that there is a limited amount of research on this topic and I have been pouring over what little there is for the last 6 months. BUT, I have no kiddos, so I am very much looking forward to reading about your perspective on it!
The timing on this seems so ironic to me since I am smack dab in the middle of this topic. Congratulations on finishing your book!
Congrats this is awesome!, i am a mom of two girls (2 yrs and 3 months) I pretty much stopped reading blogs after my second for the sake of time, but continue to read yours daily, you are very positive and relatable 😉 anyways I am so excited to read your book bc I just started researching this method over the weekend and really hope to do this with my youngest but feel overwhelmed right now. Will be sharing this with the other mothers I know of young babies!! Congrats and keep on sharing your life with us
I always loved cheerios! still do!
Michelle B says
Congratulations! That’s great! I love reading your blog for ideas to feed my 8 month old (and other reasons too ;). We tried BLW at 6 months but she just wasn’t interested. She wasn’t even interested in purees! I blame teething. Finally, she opened up to purees and just recently became interested in whole green beans, bell pepper, and scrambled eggs. I can’t wait for her to try more! I’m so happy you’ve written a book because I found a lack of information on BLW as well. I hope it’s a huge success for you! 🙂
Congratulations! My favorite childhood food was ravioli ! The yucky canned variety that I wouldn’t touch today!
Congrats!! Good for you!! I have no idea what my favorite childhood food was… spaghetti maybe?!
My mom’s homemade spaghetti and meat sauce has always been my favorite.

And seriously girlfriend, where do you find the time ?!!
Mitra Catalano says
What an incredible accomplishment! Congratulations! My favorite food as a child proves that I probably wasn’t part of baby led weaning since I loved soggy graham cracker and milk. It was my favorite treat.
I have a 5-month old so this is perfect timing 🙂 Congratulations!
Congratulations!! My son is 3.5 months so I am starting to think about Baby-Led Weaning. My favorite food as a child (starting at 5) was sushi!
Oh.my.gosh! How exciting! Congrats!! Looking forward to reading it!!!!
Congrats! I did baby led weaning with my son, but there was such a lack of information on it. I just found out I’m pregnant with my second so I will definitely buy this book.
My favorite childhood food was probably apples! We always had them in the house and it was the only thing we were allowed to snack on before bed, but it never got old.
Congrats on the book. I’m so excited to learn More about this subject. My favorite thing as a kid was strawberry and rhubarb porridge. We only had it in the summertime with fresh stuff from our yard.
We’ve been doing baby led weaning with our nine-month-old, and it’s been fantastic! She eats stuffed grape leaves and lox and everything in between. When I was a kid, my favorite food in the world was my dad’s pancakes – and Zoe’s a big fan of those, too.
Nicole C says
My favourite was mashed banana:)
We ate almost all of our meals as a family. I still love going home and having my mom cook for me. One of my favorite meals was Taco Salad. Friday nights were for homemade pizza as a family, and Saturday mornings my dad always got up and made up pancakes. We were each expected to cook one meal each week – to learn valuable skills and give my mom a break. I always made spaghetti, a salad and green beans. Nothing mind blowing, but it gave me a basis for the skills I have today. I am a very adventurous eater and always try new recipes. Home was the foundation for how I cook and eat now.
My favorite food from childhood were the lemon cooler cookies found in the grocery store! My parents only bought them every once in a while so they were special treat.
Congratulations! What an exciting time for you. I’m due with my first in April and am devouring any and all books I can on tips for raising a healthy, happy little one. This is definitely on my “to-read” list!
My favorite childhood food was a little strange, but I think it’s more because I have emotional ties to it! Lovingly referred to as “graham cracker cereal” we used to just break up graham crackers into a bowl and pour milk over. It was a special thing in our house and actually something I went back to as a pregnancy craving 🙂 Weird, but sentimental! Congrats on your book! Definitely gonna have to get my hands on one!
Kathleen Ojo @ My Ojos says
Congratulations! A book is a very big deal!!! I just did traditional purees with my daughter, but with my next I hope to take a BLW approach. I was a very adventurous eater as a kid – I think Chinese-style fried rice was my favorite!

We did baby led weaning with my now 16 month old, and it was through your blog that I first heard about it (before I was even pregnant I believe!). There are a couple of Facebook baby led weaning groups (if you’re not already aware), you should spam your book on there!! I feel like moms are always in search of more and more info on the topic. Anyways, congrats again, I hope you take some time to bask in this accomplishment. You are a published writer!! Amazing.

Book! My favorite as a child was BBQ chicken.
We did not eat a lot of fast food growing up so, as embarrassing as it is for my current self to admit, I loved the regular tacos from taco bell. The ones with just a shell, mystery meat, shredded lettuce and cheese. And hundreds of packs of hot sauce.
congrats!! so exciting!!
My fav childhood food was mac and cheese 🙂

Favorite food as a kid was (and pretty much still is) apples with peanut butter 🙂
I was also into the BLW with my first daughter but did not dive in as fully as I wished I had! I credit our even slightly modified technique to her great eating habits. Now, as baby number 2 is on the way, I hope to be more confident in this method so I am SUPER excited to see this book. Congrats!!

I have a 6 month old that has just started eating pureed foods. Would love to research this option a bit more. Congrats!
I loved plain, white bread – no crust of course! I am very interested in the details of baby led weaning – thanks for providing some insight!
My favorites were not healthy choice because that was not a focus in my home, but they were comfort foods, so- ice cream, biscuits and gravy, homemade french fries (we did not eat out or fast food very often), and mac n cheese.
I cannot wait to get a copy of this book. Thanks for compiling this info.
Erica D says
I always loved tomato soup as a kid.
This is so exciting (and so much work…)! My favorite food as a kid was probably caesar salad or pasta with shrimp and veggies. My son (a month older than H) asked for tofu, spinach and corn for his 2nd birthday! We also did BLW (both kids- one is 2 mo older than K) and I contribute a lot of my sons’ adventurous eating to it.
Wow! Congratulations on your book! Well done!!! 🙂

Peaches were always my fave!
I always loved tuna noodle casserole as a kid. Now I think it’s god-awful, but I used to request that every year on my birthday. Apparently my penchant for fancy foods started at an early age 😉 Congratulations on your new book! That’s so exciting and you deserve all the positive accolades you’re hopefully receiving.
So exciting! I ate almost anything as a child and would love for my children to as well.
My favorite food was pizza as a child. I’ve learned many tricks to “health-ify” it over the years so I can still enjoy this treat on a regular basis!
We did BLW with my younger child and I absolutely loved it. She was truly a part of family meals which I really appreciated. I am now pregnant with #3 and I will be doing it again when the time comes. I’d love to read your book

My favorite food was strawberries! Congrats on the book! I was just beginning to research baby led weaning for my 6 month old; I can’t wait to read your book!

Such a huge accomplishment, Brittany! Looking forward to checking out your book!
I was a very plain water growing up plain PB or plain cheese sandwiches were the best!

Congratulations on your book! I just bought a copy and can’t wait to read it. My fave was definitely Kraft mac n cheese…I’ve come a long way since then!! I LOVE your blog and read every single day while I’m pumping, which is also the reason it’s my first time commenting 🙂
What a great giveaway and congrats on the book! I’ve been reading your Munchkin Meals posts since the beginning, since my older son is about Hailey’s age. Now we have a 6 month old, who just started out on solids.
I have tons of favorite foods from my childhood. Mostly breads of some sort. Pretzels. The real Bavarian, crusty outside, soft inside, salted ones. Oh, wait. Wiener Schnitzel. I ate it all.the.time. And haven’t eaten it in years. Guess what I’m gonna put on the meal plan, ha!
Nice! This giveaway is amazing for moms like me:>

Kathryn F. says
My favorite food as a child was (sadly) Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. Luckily I was raised by parents who provided nutritious healthy food so getting Kraft Mac n cheese was a very rare treat indeed. I still prefer it to this day over the homemade variety. Now that I am a mother I buy the annie’s variety and like it even better!
Laura @FitMamaLove says
Congrats how exciting! I can’t believe you stayed quiet about it until it’s release! That must have been challenging! I’m also a huge fan of baby-led weaning and did it with both my kids.
Congratulations on the book! That’s amazing! And now I will have something to show my mom since everytime I tell her I want to do babyled weaning she says, “now what is that again?”

I loved Mac n cheese!
I loved Mac n cheese and oranges! I am so excited to get your book. I’m having my second baby in May and I am very curious about baby led weaning. We did purees with my son, and he did so well with all different varieties, but now that he is a toddler he is becoming so picky!
Congratulations on your book baby!! 🙂
Congrats, that is great!
I am a strong proponent of REAL food for kids of all ages and I think it is why my 4 kids aren’t picky eaters. Congrats on your book!
I LOVED mac n cheese as a kid. I would love these to give to my brother for my brand new little niece!
Elisa Johnson says
Congratulations! My son is 5.5 months old and we are just starting our journey into solid foods. I’m going to do BLW with some purees thrown in too. Just like with cloth/disposable diapers I do a little of both! I am a very whole foods based healthy vegan right now but I shudder to recall my growing up years full of lots of sugar, processed foods, and very few vegetables. My mom’s manicotti was my favorite up until I went vegan 6.5 years ago. But now I don’t miss anything animal based. I can veganize foods like a champ so they taste fantastic. Many congrats again! Is your book vegan friendly? In other words would it be worth having since I’m assuming you spend time discussing animal products?
my favorite food was egg sandwiches that my mom used to make. Congrats on your book = can’t wait to check it out!
how exciting!!! I would love to know more about how your book deal came to be!
When I was a baby, my mom tells me my favorite food was green beans.

Your first posts on the topic led me to do Baby led weaning with Molly and we LOVED it too! And I was in the same boat…not much real information on the topic. So awesome that you stepped in and wrote a book on it.
My favorite food as a kid was mashed potatoes. And I still love them!
Such a big accomplishment! Congratulations! I would love to do baby led weaning when I have a second child. Missed the boat with my 3 year old (maybe that is why she is such a picky eater)!
Samantha Mayes says
Congrats! I don’t even know if I could narrow done one food- but I would love to win this giveaway!
Anna Neumeier says
Congrats on the book! I can’t wait to check it out for the newest addition to our family. My favorite food as a kid (and one of my favorites still today) are pasties. They are very popular in Upper Michigan and were a traditional meal for Cornish miners (and yes, it is ridiculous that I have learned so much about their history). Not extremely healthy, but delicious!
Abby Buetow says
This is awesome! I’ll definitely be buying this book. We didn’t try baby led weaning with our first, who is now 2.5, and he hated all of the purees. He’s now a semi-picky eater. We’re having our second in a few months and will be going the BLW route this time around. My mom bakes a lot so, growing up, my favorites were always her homemade treats! =)
spaghetti! i also have a 3 year old and a 7 month old, and i love blw. there really aren’t any great resources out there for it, nice work on the book!

My favorite food from my childhood? Hmmm. Probably lasagna!
Oh my gosh! That’s awesome. Congratulations! I wish this book had been around 3 years ago – I was so overwhelmed when it came to feeding our son and there is so much information out there telling you different things but never really telling me what I was wanting to know. I hope to soon have another baby that I can use this approach on.
My favorite thing from childhood was probably cold hot dogs 🙂 I can’t even eat hot hot dogs now!
I honestly can not think of a favorite food as a kid. I was just happy to have food anytime we do.
Danica @ It's Progression says
Oh my gosh, Brittany!!! This is incredible! What a perfect fit for you – I would trust your opinion about all of this 100%. While I currently know very little about it, baby-led weaning is certainly the path we want to go down with our baby. Congratulations!!!

Favorite food as a kid was home grown tomatoes. My parents always had a big garden out back and I’d sneak out there and pick tomatoes fresh off the vine and eat them where I stood. I still love to eat them like that. 😉
Jessica Waite says

I’ve always enjoyed reading about your munchkin meals, and as my son is almost 7 months old, I would love your new book! I am hoping to do baby led weaning. Congratulations on your book – it must have been so hard not to spill the beans long before this!!

Congrats, Brittany! I remember really loving enchiladas as a child. I think it was my first time trying something spicy, which I am all about now. 🙂
I wouldn’t say that it was my favorite, but I hated broccoli as a kid and I always remember my mom making cauliflower just for me on the days she would make my brother broccoli.
Andrea Smith says

Irina S. says
My favorite childhood food would probably be fish soup or fried chicken.

Congrats Brittany! I have to say, when I have a baby of my own I’ll definitely use this book. The method sounds perfect. My favorite food as a kid was probably mac and cheese. I don’t remember exactly, but I also loved fresh mini octopus tentacles, mussels, and clams my dad would cook for his seafood linguine.
My favorite food/meal from childhood… and still might be today… is a dish my mom made called chicken a la king. Sure, stores sell canned version of this, but the real thing is soooo much better!
WOW congrat’s!!! That is great! I’m always trying to figure out if I’m giving too much or too little to my almost 10 month old and it drives me nuts! There really isn’t anything online besides feed your baby what you’re eating. So I’m glad you’ve written something that’s helpful!
Congratulations on the book! It looks amazing, and I can’t wait to read it. I think my all-time favorite food was always mashed potatoes growing up.

Brittany, this is awesome! I am so excited for you and can’t wait to read it. We have been doing much more baby-led weaning this time around with Vivi, and it’s going really well. So much easier than feeding purees! Also, that’s a pretty awesome booster seat! I’ll be keeping my eyes out for that when we need another one. Good luck with the book!
And also, my favorite food as a baby (and adult) is Mac and cheese

I ate fairly well as a kid, and I remember eating something other kids don’t usually eat: Liver. I used to love it! My mom would make some for the both of us to chow down on.
Wow – love this. Will the book be available for us in Australia?
So exciting can’t wait to read!

You are such an amazing lady! And good on your husband for telling you to go out and get it!
My favourite food as a little one was always tacos, I loved messy and fun food!
Great timing for your book, for me as my little guy is nearly 5 months and hankering for some food (unlike his big sister who couldn’t care less about food still… unless it’s ice cream or my plate).
Well done! xx

My favorite food was Honey Nut Cheerios – and i still love them although i save them for “special” occasions (god that sounds so lame). You have been my main source of info for BLW as it is (my son is a month younger than Kaitlyn) so i LOVE LOVE LOVE that you are doing this! Congrats and THANK YOU!

As a kid, I loved pizza. My 17-month-old now considers it a fave, too!
Amanda N says
My favorite was always cheese! (And still is) I would have it with and on everything. I also loved sour cream….I would dip everything in it!
I tried to do baby led weaning with my little one, but then got into puree’s and just found them easier of course because I could cook/puree everything in one big batch instead of having to slice and dice and peel etc. I kind of regret it now as she is very picky at 19 months and barely eats veggies! I have #2 on the way in April and plan to do more of baby led weaning approach.
Congratulations! I am so excited for this book. My daughter just turned 6 months and I am looking to try baby-led weaning a bit more with my second. My first was all purees, and I’m hoping to do more of a combo with #2! Favorite childhood food was carrots. Wish my almost 3 year old would eat them!!

Congrats Brittany! I loved anything my mom made – especially macaroni and cheese and spaghetti!
I loved my mom’s split pea soup. She always made cornbread to go along with it! yum!
My favorite childhood meal was chicken, mashed potatoes and corn, not very exciting. My mom hated cooking and both of my parents worked full time, so dinner prep had to be fast. I enjoy cooking, but still find it isn’t intuitive for me. Thanks for sharing all of your fab recipes and for inspiring me to eat healthier and cook healthier for my kids.
What an accomplishment! Congrats and I am looking forward to checking it out and trying BLW with my youngest.

I know I loved chicken roll ups as a child. Strawberries were also a favorite as were PBJ sammies. I have a 4 month old and plan to make my own food but the baby led weaning interests me. Might be difficult with day care but I guess we could do it at home.

I loved eating outside on my back deck, usually hamburgers and hot dogs.
Congratulations! What an accomplishment 🙂 I was too nervous to try baby led weaning with my son, but I might have the confidence to try when the next kid comes along. I’ll definitely have to get your book. I remember loving cheese sandwiches when I was a kid. Just American cheese, mayonnaise, and white bread 😛

As a kid, I ate just about everything. My favourite was probably family pizza night.
Congrats on your book! Graham crackers & JIF peanut butter was my favorite combo when i was little. Unfortunately i have since developed a wheat allergy & my daughter is allergic to peanuts, so we keep neither in the house. But i will always have the memory of eating my favorite foods on our front porch!

I would love a copy of this! I have an almost 11 month old son and was so afraid to do BLW when he started solids. This book would prep me for the next one!
