You guys.
I am beside myself with excitement to finally share the project I’ve been working on with you! For many months, and I might even say years, I’ve been putting every scrap of my free time into this…
A Mom’s Practical Guide to Baby-Led Weaning
A detailed BOOK stuffed full of everything anyone could ever want to know about baby led weaning!
Wait, hold on, what?
Let me back up for a second and explain how I got here.
When Hailey was approaching 6 months I started researching methods of introducing solids to babies. In my research I came across baby-led weaning, the method of introducing babies to solids that forgoes the reliance on traditional purees and instead starts babies off with real, solid foods, prepared appropriately of course.I was hooked on the idea. I started trying to find out everything I could about this method, but found very little true information that answered my questions- Was it safe? Would she get enough nutrition? Are there any benefits or drawbacks to this method? How the heck do you even do it?
I wasn’t able to find a source that answered all my questions and felt I had to just jump in somewhat blindly and try it.
Well, as many of you might know, we LOVED it. It worked so well for us and I credit Hailey’s continuous adventurous eating habits (at now three years old) to baby-led weaning. We are using and loving it for Kaitlyn (my little cover model) now too. Baby-led weaning is what sparked the creation of Munchkin Meals as well.
After becoming such big fans of the time-saving method, I couldn’t shake the idea that someone needed to write a more thorough book on the topic and David finally looked at me and said, well, do it then. A couple years, a ridiculous number of hours of research and plenty of messy, first-hand experience later, I did.
The book, which is now available for purchase through Amazon is a result of my desire to answer the numerous questions I had in the beginning and provide insight into the practice for any moms (or dads!) out there interested in introducing their babies to real food in a practical way.
I am incredibly proud to finally introduce it to you after so many months working so hard on it behind the scenes.
Thank you so much for your support and happy eating!

I am so excited about this! I am a Registered Dietitian and am currently working on my Master’s Research Project on….Baby-Led Weaning!! In fact, my initial research on this is what first led me to you blog and now I am a daily reader! You are absolutely right that there is a limited amount of research on this topic and I have been pouring over what little there is for the last 6 months. BUT, I have no kiddos, so I am very much looking forward to reading about your perspective on it!
The timing on this seems so ironic to me since I am smack dab in the middle of this topic. Congratulations on finishing your book!
Emily says
Congrats this is awesome!, i am a mom of two girls (2 yrs and 3 months) I pretty much stopped reading blogs after my second for the sake of time, but continue to read yours daily, you are very positive and relatable 😉 anyways I am so excited to read your book bc I just started researching this method over the weekend and really hope to do this with my youngest but feel overwhelmed right now. Congratulations! That’s great! I love reading your blog for ideas to feed my 8 month old (and other reasons too ;). We tried BLW at 6 months but she just wasn’t interested. She wasn’t even interested in purees! I blame teething. Finally, she opened up to purees and just recently became interested in whole green beans, bell pepper, and scrambled eggs. I can’t wait for her to try more! I’m so happy you’ve written a book because I found a lack of information on BLW as well. I hope it’s a huge success for you! 🙂

We’ve been doing baby led weaning with our nine-month-old, and it’s been fantastic! She eats stuffed grape leaves and lox and everything in between. When I was a kid, my favorite food in the world was my dad’s pancakes – and Zoe’s a big fan of those, too.

We ate almost all of our meals as a family. I still love going home and having my mom cook for me. One of my favorite meals was Taco Salad. Friday nights were for homemade pizza as a family, and Saturday mornings my dad always got up and made up pancakes. We were each expected to cook one meal each week – to learn valuable skills and give my mom a break. I always made spaghetti, a salad and green beans. Nothing mind blowing, but it gave me a basis for the skills I have today. I am a very adventurous eater and always try new recipes. Home was the foundation for how I cook and eat now.
katie says
My favorite food from childhood were the lemon cooler cookies found in the grocery store! My parents only bought them every once in a while so they were special treat.

My favorite childhood food was a little strange, but I think it’s more because I have emotional ties to it! Lovingly referred to as “graham cracker cereal” we used to just break up graham crackers into a bowl and pour milk over. Congratulations! My son is 5.5 months old and we are just starting our journey into solid foods. I’m going to do BLW with some purees thrown in too. Just like with cloth/disposable diapers I do a little of both! I am a very whole foods based healthy vegan right now but I shudder to recall my growing up years full of lots of sugar, processed foods, and very few vegetables. My mom’s manicotti was my favorite up until I went vegan 6.5 years ago. But now I don’t miss anything animal based. I can veganize foods like a champ so they taste fantastic. Many congrats again! Is your book vegan friendly? In other words would it be worth having since I’m assuming you spend time discussing animal products?

Anna Neumeier says
Congrats on the book! I can’t wait to check it out for the newest addition to our family. My favorite food as a kid (and one of my favorites still today) are pasties. They are very popular in Upper Michigan and were a traditional meal for Cornish miners (and yes, it is ridiculous that I have learned so much about their history). Not extremely healthy, but delicious!
Abby Buetow says
This is awesome! I’ll definitely be buying this book. We didn’t try baby led weaning with our first, who is now 2.5, and he hated all of the purees. He’s now a semi-picky eater. YAY! You were reading my mind today. My daughter turns 6 months next week and I want to do BLW with her. Earlier today I spent some time trying to google more info about how to start BLW. I am so excited, I can’t wait to read your book and start the food journey with my little girl. Thank you!

You are such an amazing lady! And good on your husband for telling you to go out and get it!
My favourite food as a little one was always tacos, I loved messy and fun food!
Great timing for your book, for me as my little guy is nearly 5 months and hankering for some food (unlike his big sister who couldn’t care less about food still… unless it’s ice cream or my plate).
Well done! xx
Erica Pierce says

My favorite food was Honey Nut Cheerios – and i still love them although i save them for “special” occasions (god that sounds so lame). You have been my main source of info for BLW as it is (my son is a month younger than Kaitlyn) so i LOVE LOVE LOVE that you are doing this! Congrats and THANK YOU!

Jessica says
As a kid, I loved pizza. My 17-month-old now considers it a fave, too!
Amanda N says
My favorite was always cheese! (And still is) I would have it with and on everything. I also loved sour cream….I would dip everything in it!
I tried to do baby led weaning with my little one, but then got into puree’s and just found them easier of course because I could cook/puree everything in one big batch instead of having to slice and dice and peel etc. I kind of regret it now as she is very picky at 19 months and barely eats veggies! I have #2 on the way in April and plan to do more of baby led weaning approach.
Kim says
Congratulations! I am so excited for this book. My daughter just turned 6 months and I am looking to try baby-led weaning a bit more with my second. My first was all purees, and I’m hoping to do more of a combo with #2! Favorite childhood food was carrots. Wish my almost 3 year old would eat them!!

My favorite childhood meal was chicken, mashed potatoes and corn, not very exciting. My mom hated cooking and both of my parents worked full time, so dinner prep had to be fast. I enjoy cooking, but still find it isn’t intuitive for me. Thanks for sharing all of your fab recipes and for inspiring me to eat healthier and cook healthier for my kids.
