We’re nearing the end of vacation and I have mixed emotions. On one hand I wish I could live like this everyday, have family nearby and enjoy margaritas everyday at sunset. On the other hand, I thrive on routine. It’s a curse.
I haven’t been too great about exercise on this vacation. We’ve been busy bustling the whole gang around, but as for structured exercise, yesterday was my one wog. I took Koda and we went 2.7 miles on the beach. It was so serene and it felt great to wiggle.
Plus, with no leash laws, Koda got to wiggle, too, and covered at least twice the distance I did.
My body has been craving normalcy, so between the margaritas and Dean’s French onion dip, I managed to fit in some old familiar greens yesterday before the beach.
After a brief stint on the sand, we retired to the pool for splashing, dunking and watermelon.
And this was all before noon! After lunch we bummed…
…but only briefly. Then we were off to catch some crabs!
I may or may not have secretly pretended to be Joey Potter during this escapade.
Upon returning home, I made mermaid jewelry with my sweet niece.
Before heading to the beach for sunset.
A few deep breaths in the salty breeze was the perfect ending to a busy day. Vacation is really wonderful, especially when I can learn to relax, let my routine fall by the wayside and embrace it in all it’s glory. It’s not always easy for me, but I’m learning.
Do you ever have trouble letting go of routine on vacation?

I’m also a total fanatic about my routine. I love vacations, as long as they are fairly short and I can get to a grocery store! I can’t stand eating ever meal out and my body starts to go haywire on to much junk food!

Absolutely not! I LOVE not having to be somewhere at a certain time and operating on the go. Looks like y’all had a good time!

Wow that sounds amazing! I love getting in a good workout on vacay. But mostly it’s about adventuring in a new place and just having fun, and less about burning calories. …which actually leads to some of my best workouts! I have issues relaxing, also. I need a good book or magazine to keep me entertained. Otherwise I want to get up and go! But I, too, am working on that. Glad you had a great vacation with the adorable family!

I just wrote about something similar on my blog last night about vacation. I’ve been on so many vacations where I go go go from morning until night, trying to see everything and get the most of it, when really, getting the most out of vacation (for me at least) is spending some time just relaxing, taking in a good book and lingering by the breakfast table. That’s why I love traveling to the beach – not too much to be distracted with.
But like you, I do love my routine and was really excited to get back to that (and my bed). Safe travels!

Haha I stink at really relaxing, but on a beach… I can usually do it 😉

Nope, I am usually in vacation mode as soon as I step off the plane or out of the car. While I usually stick to my healthy way of eating, I always allow for daily ice cream cones and fun entrees that I may not otherwise order. I love vacation!

I have trouble sitting still sometimes. But this last vacation helped because we were in Europe and completely away from all technology! 🙂
Love the pictures. Hailey is so darn cute!!

I completely relate. I’m never able to fully relax until the last day, and then I spend the next few days at home wishing that I was back on vacation! I love the Joey Potter reference. 😉

Hahaha I probably would have secretly pretended to be Joey Potter too.

I thrive on routine and vacations are always tough for me!

Because I used to live @ the beach, and kinda still do.. It can be hard @ times to actually relax on vacation. I’m so glad to see that you were able too, but yet get out there for a little run too :). It’s all about balance. All of your pictures are beautiful.

I’m glad you are learning to take the vacay time to relax and enjoy.
I know what you mean, it can be hard to just let go of the routine we have built back at home and leave it there while we are away.
Loving all the pictures!:)

I can totally relate! It takes me a few days to unwind and truly start relaxing on vacation, because I’m such a person of routine. I am getting better at it, thanks to my husband! We’ll see how it goes on our trip this week…
