We enjoyed finding out that Hailey was a girl together on a special date night so much that we decided to do the same this time with baby numero dos. So last Saturday we left Hailey with good friends and ventured down to South Park, a ritzy, decorative area of Charlotte known for it’s high-end mall. The evening started off right with David picking me a single rose and had it waiting in the car.
We aren’t big shoppers, but enjoyed an hour or two of leisurely strolling, checking out the holiday decorations and swinging by to see the big man himself.
Our reservations at Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen, a new-to-me restaurant were at 8:00, so we headed over a few minutes early to grab a drink.
I know this post is about the gender reveal, but I must through in a serious WOWWWW for Rooster’s. From the second we walked in, the service and food was beyond all expectations.
I believe the manager’s name was Chad (forgive my cloudy memory!), but he came over to introduce himself and personally escort us to our table. He even ordered up the most delicious mocktail for me. I wish I knew what was in it, but he only referred to it as the Mrs. Dixon. Haha, I loved it!
As we ordered and enjoyed appetizers, we went back over all the old wives tales, just for fun.
Finally, I couldn’t stand it anymore. I was ready to rip into the envelope!
We both put in our final guess- boy.
Then, I scooted in next to David and slowly opened the envelope. Our eyes darted around the page until David’s finger shot onto the paper and pointed it out to me…
IT’S A GIRL!!!
We celebrated and laughed a little too loudly for a nice place, but I couldn’t stop laughing. Of course it’s a girl! Of course I have no maternal instinct!
Our awesome waitress and the manager came by to ask the results and shouted with us when they heard the news. It felt like they wanted to celebrate with us, which made it feel extra special. After all, what’s not to celebrate about a healthy girl on the way?
Drink up daddy. You’re going to be swimming in a sea of estrogen!
We finished off the night talking about names, sisterly things for the girls to do and how David will teach them about water skiing and woodworking while we devoured assorted mushrooms and a melt-in-your-mouth pork belly and collards.
Rooster’s even brought us out a complimentary celebratory chocolate cake with vanilla gelato, which we devoured despite being stuffed with delicious food.
I never imagined myself as a mom to two girls, which makes this adventure all the more exciting. Now that I know who is my belly, I can’t wait to find out more about who she is.
David and I are both looking forward to this next chapter as a family of four and really appreciate all your love and support! …And hearing Hailey say “baby seester” melts my heart into one giant puddle.
Let the craziness begin!
Congratulations to you and your family! It is going to be fun and exciting to have two daughters!
YAY!!!! I am so excited for you guys. I teared up when you said it was a girl (despite no pregnant hormones :)) ! I know with our pregnancies, we thought one of each of would be cool and then we we found out we were going to have two girls, it was just perfect! And their relationship gets better and better everyday. To see how Emmy wants to do everything like Avery and how close they are already, it is just the coolest thing. Little girls are so amazing, I couldn’t imagine life any other way! Congrats to you guys! Not only on two little girls, but two healthy little girls! 🙂
Congrats! What a special way to find out. I always wanted a sister growing up! Your two little girls are going to have so much fun together! <3

Wooo!! Congrats Brittany! Two girls will be SO much fun! My sister and I are obsessed with each other 🙂 (we have two older brothers too that we are super close with, but there’s nothing like a sisterly bond). We’re most likely going to Charlotte for the Panthers game in two weeks sooo I may have to talk Greg into a nice dinner while we’re there. That place looks awesome.
Girl!!! Congrats again! We’re also having another girl and one of the best parts so far has been talking to our daughter about her little sister and watching her talk and snuggle with the baby (aka my belly). When people ask her if I’m having a girl, she says “No, a sister! Mommy’s having a sister!”
Wow, that’s fantastic!! As someone who doesn’t have a sister (or a brother), I know that Hailey will be so blessed to have that irreplaceable bond!
And to you and your husband, congratulations! This little GIRL is so blessed to be born into such a warm, loving and healthy family!

I think 2 girls are great…I always wanted a sister but had a brother. I had a boy then a girl but I know my daughter would love a sister (something about that sisterly bond I always see) but I am DONE! lol
You know my response to this already. OUT.FREAKIN.STANDING. Girls! Girls! Girls! We will have soooo soooo much fun! I can’t wait to meet her, hold her and babysit for you while you get some quiet time or date time!
And you better watch out – N is super excited too and is a babysitter in training. You might be asking her to come over to help too!

Speaking from one girl mom to another, CONGRATS! Adam was a bit disappointed when not even one of our twins was a boy, because I think part of him (and I) always thought we would have families like we grew up in, 1 boy and 1 girl, but now that we have 3 girls we are enjoying all of the fun girl households bring. That isn’t to say he didn’t get out all his old toys and introduce trucks and matchbox cars to Kheri haha!
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, & Beers says
Yay! So exciting. May as well paint the place pink… 😉
Yay congrats! I was the same way btw…I thought we were having a boy and was shocked when we saw it was a girl! Haha awesome though. Congrats
