Yesterday morning I made breakfast, attempting to clean out the fridge.
Delicious success. Farmers market wheat sourdough, toasted, topped with herbed goat cheese, spinach and scrambled egg. 2 pieces of all natural bacon on the side. Then, we hopped in the car.
Lunch would have made Christina proud. We all (yes, Hailey’s first time!) dined on Chick-fil-A and it was delicious!
I still get a kick out of watching the cashier’s eyes when I order a kid’s meal for my 9 month old. (PS- more #munchkinmeals tomorrow, so don’t forget to snap pictures!)
Not long after lunch, we saw the Atlantic Ocean!
That was great and all, but I also found my happy place.
A pretty rockin’ start to vacation if you ask me! Or, ask David. They had a growler station.
So where are we? Charleston! Well, on a nearby island to be more exact. We’re staying with friends and I’m so thrilled to be here! Hailey is excited to hang out with her friends, too.
Last night we eased into vacation with a few snacks while we all chatted.
Then David beat up a giant moth!
…orrrrrrr he was in charge of the pizza dough. Pizza, wine and friends at the beach. It’s going to be a nice little vacation!
I can’t forget the reason for the holiday, though. Happy INDEPENDENCE Day!
I’ve decided instead of calling it the 4th of July, that it’s important to remember what the 4th of July represents. It means remembering how many sacrifices were and are made to protect America and it’s ideals: independence, self reliance and freedom.
I love this country fiercely and hope to see it forever be the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I love the idea of always referring to it as Independence Day instead – such a wonderful way to honor our country and all its freedoms.
Enjoy your vacation! 🙂

I love Independence Day better than 4th of July as well.. being an Army wife and all, I think many forget WHY today is a holiday. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY TO YOU! Enjoy the beach :)!

Looks like a great start to a vacation!
And isn’t it nice to have little munchkins that are great eaters?! People ALWAYS remark on it when we’re out. Love it.
