On my blog, I’m happy-go-lucky. Things are usually upbeat and cheery. Why? Because that’s how I am in real life. I know, you thought I was going to say something about ‘staying real’, but sorry to be annoying- happy ‘me’ is the real me!
However…
2 day overdue ‘me’ isn’t all rainbows and butterflies.
And it’s not because I’m so dreadfully uncomfortable that I just can’t stand it. Physically I’m feeling just fine (all things considered).
Mentally, though, my confidence is wavering.
First, let’s take a look at the current stats.
- Due date: September 6 (2 days overdue at this point)
- Weight Gained: 29.5 pounds (yup, I lost a little- weird)
- Last Doc Appt Update: 50% effaced and not dilated (I regressed? Apparently.) *Next doc appt tomorrow!
- Blood Pressure: 100/60 (checked yesterday)
- Biggest Physical Complaints: My belly feels heavy when I roll over at night. Yeah, that’s about as bad as it gets.
- Baby Movement: Plenty. Wiggle, roll, poke, kick!
- Signs of Labor: Nada. Zilch. I could still skip around the neighborhood.
I’m so anxious. I even paid someone to hurt me yesterday to try and induce labor. I’m talking about reflexology. I figured ‘what the heck?!”’
FYI- reflexology is no foot massage- owwwwwwwwwwww!
He said I’d be in labor within 24 hours. He has 7 hours left before I’m asking for a refund.
The worst part is the doubt I’m starting to feel. I woke up a few times last night and the worries started sneaking in…
- What if my body doesn’t know how to get this baby out?
- What if I have to be induced? I know the doc will discuss it tomorrow.
- What if I can’t handle pitocin?
- What if something is wrong with the baby and that’s why s/he can’t get out?
- What if I miss the UGA/South Carolina game? (ok, I’m KIND OF kidding about that one)
Logically I know I’m not the only one who has ever been overdue, but oh, the emotions I am feeling are unreal. I’m desperate to meet our sweet baby.
But today I woke up, like any other day, feeling well rested (note: a feeling I’m trying to enjoy while I can).
I checked under the blanket- nope, no baby slipped out unnoticed during the night.
I made myself breakfast (plain Greek yogurt, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, honey and raw oats- surprisingly tasty, despite Hubbs giving me the stink eye when he asked what it was).
Today I’m going to yoga. My focus for the practice is just to breathe and empty my mind… to find a peaceful place.
Afterwards, I’m going to lunch with two friends that are due in the next week. We’re going to eat eggplant parmesan at a restaurant known for the dish putting women into labor. It should be quite a sight to see!
So… there you have it.
Nothing health related.
No question at the end of the post.
Just my thoughts.
Wish me luck… not only for labor, but for these long hours or days to pass quickly.
Thanks, friends!

Thinking of you 🙂

Praying for ya, Brittany! I’m sure things are just fine, you just have a stubborn little baby on your hands that calls the shots already 🙂
Rachel @ Not Rachael Ray says
First of all, everything WILL BE FINE. And they have TVs in the hospital, so one way or another you’ll see your game. On the up side, isn’t it kind of fun to say “two days ago” when people ask when you are due? I always liked the shocked expression they would give 🙂
Brittany says
That’s so true! It’s fun to watch people’s eyes bug out of their head like I’m about to pop a baby out on their floor!
Kristin says
I know the waiting is SO hard! I remember being ready to go into labor anytime after about 38 weeks, and was so frustrated to go past my due date instead! I hope you get the birth you want, and soon, but if it helps at all, I had a pitocin-induced delivery that was totally smooth sailing – it’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Molly @ Duchess of Fork says
Thinking of you, girl! Like I said before, that baby is just comfy! He/she will be out before you know it. I agree, though, missing the South Caroline/ Georgia game would be a shame. 😉 Glad you’re still feeling well!
Heather says
Thinking of you and hoping Baby D arrives soon. I can’t wait to see pics.
alex says
Thinking of you. I definitely laughed when you said you looked under the blanket! Wishing you the best
Kelly says
Oh I just love your blog Brittany! Great post! Thinking of you and you know as soon as they say they want to induce you, you’ll go into labor and be just fine, as will the baby! Come on Baby D, we want to ‘meet’ you, enough play time inside, come on out!
Kat @ Big Apple Little Kitchen says
You going to do great. Everything I’ve ever read says that when you start getting really uncomfortable and moody…BAM that’s when labor starts.
This might be really silly, but I saw an episode of Roseanne a couple of days ago that made laugh hysterical…because I know I’m going to be exactly like this when pregnant. Enjoy!

Brittany says
Oh my goodness- thank you so much for posting that clip! It’s EXACTLY how I feel! Too darn funny- I laughed so hard. And if moody is a sign on labor, then it has to be coming soon! 😉
Paulina says
Hang in there Brittany. I can only imagine how incredibly frustrating it must be to look forward to a date for 9 (10!) months and than for it to just pass with no signs of labor. I hope you can stay comfortable and calm over the next few days and I really hope you can avoid induction since you’re hoping for a natural birth.
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
i have a feeling this little baby of yours will be coming in NO time! 🙂 what an exciting time. i’m sure you’re beyond antsy!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well says
I love that all of you pregnant ladies are getting together to eat hoping to induce labor!! I bet that will be quite the sight 🙂
Just remember that your body knows what it is doing better than you can even imagine. It will give you that baby when all is good and ready 🙂 Sending good thoughts your way!
Stefanie says
hang in there Brittany! I’m sure baby D just has a little stage fright about making his/her grand entrance and will get over it soon! Good luck. I’m thinking about you!
erin says
Good luck!
I’ve been past my due date and I know how hard it is. I’ve also known many women who go past their due date and still go onto have natural deliveries. One friend was even induced with pitocin and still did it epidural free. So it’s not impossible. Just stay confident and keep your mind centered.
Michelle Caputo says
How great would it be if all 3 of you ladies were to go into labor at the same time during lunch this afternoon!! How exciting would that be? Good Luck! Any day night…hang in there! Can’t wait to see baby pics! 🙂
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
I’m sure that it has to be SO difficult waiting it all out right now. I’ll keep you in my thoughts and hope that the baby makes an appearance in LESS THAN 7 hours. 🙂
Becky @ Fit Chick on the Fly says
OK so first of all – GO GAMECOCKS 🙂 Sorry I had to do it ( I played sball there for 4 years & we hate the dawgs, don’t hate me because of that! )
Second of all – Baby D better make it out before the big game 🙂 No pressure or anything!
Brooke @ Veggie Table says
Hang in there! Every morning when I get to work, I immediately go to you blog thinking “Ahhh – did Baby D make it into the world today?!?!” Thinking about you guys! Good luck!!!
Jen says
Brittany, I so hope Baby D makes his or her appearance soon! I can’t imagine how frustrating it is.
Oh and my baby is due the day of the Giants/ Cowboys game. I’m going to be really sad if I miss the game. And I’m not kidding 😉
Graze With Me says
Most first babies tend to come late since your body is new to this whole “birth” thing. Don’t worry, your body was made for this! Plus, losing a little weight is actually a sign of early labor!
Just have faith in biology and enjoy these last few days of well rested-ness until little one comes out to say hello!
blackhuff says
I feel as if I can come over there and give you a hug with all the questions you have and tell you: “Don’t worry, it will all be fine.”
Asking these questions is normal for any first time mother. I remember being this scared / uncertain. No matter what I or anyone tell you , you might not feel better. But I do think that everything will be ok.
Sabrina says
Ugh- I can’t imagine the feeling of anticipation. At 38 almost 39 weeks I am feeling it along with you… but I haven’t passed my due date yet.
I’m so sorry Baby D hasn’t made an appearance yet. Just remember that your body KNOWS what it is doing. And remember what Ina May says- Your body is not a lemon! Keep strong. Stay confident. And know that you can do this!
Donna@Life of a Happy Blonde says
I won’t be one of those people that say it will happen when it’s supposed to or enjoy the quiet time, I’m going to tell the baby get out of her belly!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Hang in there my dear, and vent away!
Caree @ Fit-Mama says
Baby D will be here before you know and all of this soon will be a distant memory!!! 🙂 Hang in there!!! I am sure everything is fine!
Katie @ Legally Fit says
Aw, best of luck girl- thinking of you!
Jen @familyfoodfitnessandfun says
Okay, I know you’re probably not gonna want to hear this…but, I went 10 days overdue with all my babies! I was induced each time. For some reason, my babies must have just been so comfortable in there 😉 The only thing you can do is just enjoy the last precious hours of sleep!!
Kelly @foodiefresh says
I really hope the baby comes soon! I have a question — is eggplant parm supposed to put you into labor or specifically eggplant parm from that particular restaurant?
Brittany says
I’ve heard both. Eggplant itself is ‘supposed’ to bring on labor (though I call BS), but certain restaurants have meals that are famous for putting women into labor. In Atlanta, Scalini’s is widely known for this and even have a wall of pictures of pregnant ladies and babies to prove it 🙂
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
I wish I could say I can relate, except I can’t…well, except to the part about staying up at night worrying (my worries just don’t happen to be about babies).
My thoughts? Baby D is just waiting for the perfect moment. I’m guessing this baby is going to be a scene-stealer in life, and he/she wants to start early.
Heather @ Side of Sneakers says
I was 10 days overdue and still apologize to my mom for it. 😉 Most first time moms go past their due date- I know that doesn’t help though. 😉 You’ve just made too happy of a place for Baby D!
Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean says
hang in there! trust your body…it knows what it’s doing and you and baby will be just fine!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Brittany I’m thinking of you today! I don’t know your beliefs, but in that sort of situation I would just try to let go and let God take care of it. I know it must be so tough though!
Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) says
Hang tough 🙂 it’ll all happen soon I’m sure!
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
I was 2 weeks early with both kiddos and felt mental at that point. I can only imagine how you’re feeling. 🙁
COME OUT BABY D!!!!
Lauren says
Totally understandable feelings/fears, but don’t worry, I think you will do just fine 🙂 I find yoga always helps too. Good luck!
Jennie @ WhileMyButtonSleeps says
I was 6 days late and felt everything you described. Then, I had the natural childbirth of my dreams. Some great things are happening and I promise you and your body will be ready. It’s worth the extra wait! 🙂 But I know you know that too! Best wishes!!!!
chandana says
Hi Brittany,
I’m commenting here for the first time. I have been following your blog for sometime and I very much enjoy all your posts. Especially the pregnancy related ones. As much as I enjoy these I am ready to read about Baby D so Baby D come soon 🙂
I’m sure after all this disomfort you are going through there will be a healthy mama and a healthy Baby D.
Best of luck.
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, and Beers says
“Don’t worry; everything will be fine” is so easy to say but so hard to absorb. I wish I had better words for you that aren’t what you’ve already heard a hundred times, but I don’t. Try not to sweat the small stuff. Maybe Baby D will be a big procrastinator. 🙂
Sherry says
You are so cute and upbeat. First of all, your body will know how to get this cutie pie out. Second, you can handle pitocin if you need too. Thirdly, Baby D is just fine (with all the prenatal care you would know if something wasn’t looking right). Fourthly, you were due on Labor Day and came two weeks late on the 20th (not that I am wishing that on you! And lastly, If you deliver early on Saturday, not only will I have guessed the correct day, but then you can be holding Baby D when the Dawgs beat the Gamecocks!
Casey W says
I’m sure you know this already, but sometimes it helps to hear it – a due date is just an estimation, not necessarily a deadline – the real deadline doesn’t come for just under 2 more weeks – when the baby NEEDS to come out. I am sure I will be feeling the same way when my due date comes and goes but as others have said, first time mothers often deliver after their due date. Several of my friends were more than a week “late” and their babies are healthy and happy and were able to be born naturally. Don’t doubt yourself! Your body was made to do this and bring this baby into the world! When baby D is ready, your body will be too!
Alexis says
My husband was NINE DAYS over-due!! I was totally shocked when his mom told me (though it made some things make sense, he hasn’t been on time for anything since haha!), and surprised that they didn’t just induce her. But he was still born healthy and at just 7lbs, so I think sometimes the doctor’s are a little off on their due dates and the babies need a little more time to bake:) It’s definitely made me worry though that this will be a genetic thing and I’ll be stuck carrying late haha.
Lauren B says
Your posts the last several days have been cracking me up! You are so witty… And hopefully you won’t answer me back because the reflexologist has sent you into labor!!
P.S. Bummer about the DAWGS this past weekend…wah…but let’s hope for a better outcome at the Border War this Saturday. (Hoping you’ll be too busy with your new little one to watch!) 🙂
Amy says
My son was over due by 3 days, and I was going bananas. I bled and had contractions the third day after my due date, but my water never broke and was not dialated!!! (talking about frustration!) so my doctor broke the water “manually” and induced the labor. With the technology nowadays, you will be more than fine! And I heard the second one will be a breeze. 😉
stephanie*L says
It is natural to worry and be excited. I think you totally have the mindset right- things will happen as they will and as long as in the end you have a happy healthy baby thats all that really matters. With that in mind, I am thinking of you and Baby D and praying you will be able to have this baby YOUR way. Although, Baby D sounds stubborn already and may want his/her way this time 🙂
Kathryn says
Bahaha I love the worry over the UGA/USC game.. I go to South Carolina, and if I were you, I’d making sure there is a TV in the delivery room, just in case 😉
Jess @atasteofconfidence says
I understand but you will be fine!!! I promise. 🙂
Anne @strawberryjampackedlife.com says
Hey, now! Football is important! Why do you think we got married in May and not September? I would be so distracted walking down the aisle thinking “What’s the Purdue score now?”
Maryea {Happy Healthy Mama} says
I hope as I am typing this you are in labor! If not, know that it has to happen soon. Even if the days seem like weeks, your little one will be here before you know it. Besides, I have a theory that overdue babies are better sleepers. You might just have an amazing sleeper on your hands. And trust me, that is every new mother’s #1 wish. (Even if she doesn’t know it before the baby is born!) Good luck!!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
girlfriend, you are perfect. your baby is perfect. and everything is going to be PERFECT.
I just know it. 😉
did you know I was TWO whole weeks late? my mom was finally induced on a snow day. how’s that for late?
Brittney says
You crack me up! Crossing my fingers for you that the baby comes out soon! Hang in there Brittany!
Jen says
i’m not sure what i love more…that you had reflexology or the comment on UGA/USC. 🙂
hang in there.
Lindsay @ Pinch of Yum says
I keep checking in for an update and you are quite the trooper! hang in there! Your body will know what do and you will make a great mom. 🙂
Lauren B. says
Hey Brittany. I just re-read this post, as I am now 2 days overdue as well, and while I am doing fine physically, mentally I am a wreck. I have been stuck at 1 cm for at least 2 weeks now and not effaced. It’s encouraging to read this again and remember that eventually Hailey made her appearance and is such an adorable little girl, no matter how she got here!
