I typically try to show off recipes that I either created myself or altered to make my own, but this one is a straight up duplicate. But if you’re going to feature a recipe, who better to feature than The Pioneer Woman?
I’m a salsa fanatic, so when I read that she was ‘high maintenance’ when it came to salsa, I decided it was worth giving this recipe a go.
Restaurant Style Salsa
via The Pioneer Woman
It’s important to note that I doubled this recipe. I’m making dinner for a family and wanted to bring them some homemade salsa, too. Well, I totally could have stuck to the original recipe, because this makes a ton of salsa y’all!
Ingredients (again, I doubled this)
- 1 can (28 Ounce) Whole Tomatoes With Juice
- 2 cans (10 Ounce) Rotel (diced Tomatoes And Green Chilies)
- ¼ cups Chopped Onion
- 1 clove Garlic, Minced
- 1 whole Jalapeno, Quartered And Sliced Thin
- ¼ teaspoons Sugar
- ¼ teaspoons Salt
- ¼ teaspoons Ground Cumin
- ½ cups Cilantro (more To Taste!)
- ½ whole Lime Juice
Through the magic of blogging, voila! it’s all prepped!
Now, the secret to making this an easy recipe is to have a normal sized (large) food processor. I have a mini one. But not for long… I’ll be investing in a regular size stat. But for now, I have a mini….
I had to divide all my ingredients into fourths and then mix them all together in a bowl. It took a while. Use a regular sized food processor. I beg you. Have you ever had to divide 1 tsp into fourths?!
Add ingredients…
Pulse it a few times (I only pulsed 2-4 times each batch). It doesn’t need much.
And there you have it- homemade salsa!
And doubling the recipe makes a TON of the good stuff…
but lucky for me I love salsa on everything! From homemade enchiladas…
to my morning egg/egg white scramble.
This would be great for a party, or to make on a Sunday and use all week long. It has a nice kick to it, and next time I won’t be shy about adding in a bit more cilantro… mmm… cilantro!
What’s your favorite thing to put salsa on?
Mine is chip… a tortilla chip…
…covered is cheese, onions, guacamole, beans…
😉

About a year ago my boyfriend became obsessed with PW’s salsa and was making it every week! I totally over dosed but I might be ready to have it again soon. haha. Yes, a large food processor would definitely make your life easier!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
I second that emotion…regarding cilantro.
I love salsa as salad dressing, or mixed with cottage cheese….I tend to also love to scoop it up with cucumber or zucchini/squash slices/rounds…and I LOVE it with carrots (the key is to bite a bit off of the end of a baby carrot so you get a spoon of sorts….)
Rachel (Olalliberry) says
That salsa looks so good, it makes me think of summer! I like it as salad dressing too, either plain or (even better) mixed with a spoonful of yogurt or sour cream.
Sara @ Nourish and Flourish says
Mmm…I love homemade salsa! And I love The Pioneer Woman! This recipe looks fantastic…Can’t wait to make it!
I love salsa on top of chicken and refried beans…with guacamole and sour cream, obviously! 🙂 It also makes a good dressing for salad.

Homemade salsa – such a great idea!! I bet it tasted so fresh. I love putting salsa on salads, eggs, and my “mexican rice bowls” – basically a burrito without the tortilla! Looks like a fabulous recipe!

I heart SALSA! I love restaurant salsa and have been dying to make this recipe. It looks fabulous. 🙂 I eat salsa on everything. I love it on a crispy corn tortilla with an over easy egg. I also love strait up chips and salsa. I will sometimes have chips and salsa for dinner. Yum!
Jane Marie says
Yum!!! I love me some salsa! I like to use it as a low calorie substitute for salad dressing on a mexi-style salad of lettuce, black beans, corn, cheese.
Sarah for Real says
Lol you can say “wah-lah” as much as you want, it’s your blog! I won’t tease you about it if you make me some of this amazing salsa 😉
Melissa @ Be Not Simply Good says
Looks great! I love salsa.
I, too, have a mini food processor. I am not sure I want to upgrade, as I would have to find somewhere to keep the larger one. Yet, it can be challenging working with the mini… What a quandary.

Chips and salsa are one of my favorite snacks 🙂 My grandpa makes amazing homemade salsa, but I’ve never been able to duplicate his recipe to the same perfection…I will definitely have to give this one a try!

How long does this salsa keep? Can it be frozen?
Thank you!

It should probably be eaten within a week and I’ve never tried freezing it so I’m not sure! If you try it, will you report back? Thanks!

Can you can this salsa? Would it be in a hot water bath straight out of the blender?
Love this! So yummy!
Brittany Dixon says
I’m afraid I don’t know enough about canning to answer that question, but I hope to learn more this coming year and will report back if I try canning it. Wish I could help more! It is delicious though 🙂

I used to get my basic salsa mix at Kroger’s but they did away with it so I must try this ASAP !
