For all my planning ahead for the November and December holiday season, I feel like I really flew by the seat of my pants through October. The kids had wanted to “boo” people and we never got around to it. I had intended to go to the pumpkin patch, but our days filled up. On Monday, though, I took the girls to Josh’s Farmers Market where we picked out a couple good ones to carve.
Halloween 2023 Recap
After a few days of warm temperatures, Halloween itself brought a temperature drop and cloudy skies. Perfect for the day, honestly! It brought a cozy feel to the day and after a “scary” breakfast, we played Halloween music and carved our pumpkins in the driveway.
Then I made David’s Famous chili and kept it warm in the Instant Dutch Oven while I got a hair cut because it was the only day they could fit me in. The girls watched a final Halloween movie and then in the late afternoon we cleaned up the house and began to get ready for friends and trick-or-treating.
Our Halloween Costumes
This year H chose to be a police officer and David and I went with the layup, dressing all in black as the bandits she was trying to catch. K was all about Wednesday Addams. I don’t think I caught a picture of her smiling in costume all night until she took off her wig. Dedication!
Our neighborhood goes all out with the frightful fun and it always is a good night to catch up with neighbors while we watch the kids go from house to house, shrieking in delight from both the ghost decorations and the candy consumption.
The end of the night brought us back home, where the kids organized their stashes and traded for their favorites. It was a fun night and since I’m not 100% sure how many dress up trick or treating nights we have to come, I sure did enjoy this one.
Now, time to put up the Christmas tree!!!! I kid, I kid…. kind of 😉

Happy Halloween! That haunted woods/ trail scene looks amazing!
October is my favorite month of the year and I deliberately plan Halloween events for every weekend (which this year also involved heading out of town, at least for a day trip, every weekend), and we had an absolute blast, but I am now officially exhausted, and struggling today at school after a later night. Looking forward to some sweet, cozy darkness and downtime in November.

Aww, cute pics! I felt a little sad last night because although my boys already kind of phoned in Halloween last year too, this year they REALLY phoned it in. We actually didn’t even carve pumpkins or get pictures of them out on the front step with the Halloween decorations as we usually do, either. They got home from trick or treating and didn’t even do the usual “dump the candy bag and sort it all out”! Looking back on some Facebook memories, I felt a bit wistful thinking about how this particular era seems to have come to an official close now. Overall, it’s ok- things move on, and we have new, different eras to enjoy. But still just a little sad, too. 😉
