Spring cleaning has me within its grasp. I have a project list a mile long. Some tasks are as simple as organizing my food storage containers (oh the excitement!) and others are more in-depth, like transforming our playroom full of baby toys into a wondrous preschool and enriching kindergarten environment. Or at least I want to put new carpet in.
My closet hasn’t escaped my frenzy. I went through it the other day and organized my clothes into seasons, then pulled out everything I no longer wear. I have a pile to donate and a pile I was going to send to ThredUp, but upon a recommendation from a friend, I signed up to try Poshmark. Poshmark is a site/app in which you can buy and sell your used clothes. I’m new so I won’t give any opinion on it yet, but if you sign up with my referral code UZTXI, you and I will both be given $5 to spend.
Long story short, my closet is getting a spring makeover and I have turned my home into a private dressing room (hooray for online shopping!). Last weekend when a new shipment arrived, David was in the midst of playing with the camera and suggested a photo shoot. Being that I’m such a natural on film, how could I say no?
Kidding. Obviously.
However, like Cher Horowitz so accurately pointed out, pictures tend to tell the truth about how something looks far better than mirrors, so I decided to play along. Imitating some of the most coveted poses from the big fashion bloggers, I did my best to hide my awkwardness and we ended up having a really fun time playing photo shoot.
So after that lengthy introduction, here are some contenders hoping to be added to my spring 2017 closet.
Halogen Cold Shoulder Tee in Orange Spice (Regular & Petite)
Cold Shoulder Top (XS P) / Shorts- Sold Out / Wedges- Sold Out (similar & similar)
I’m not sure I have the partial tuck thing down yet. Mine looks like it is just coming untucked a bit, no? And we’re still working on that manual focus, so sorry for the fuzzy face!
I really liked the spicy orange color of the top. However, it pulled a little around my arms (I guess my guns are getting bigger than I think), so I think I need to try it in a size up.
Pleione Drop Waist Print Tunic (Regular & Petite)
Drop Waist Top (XS P) / White Jeans- Sold Out (similar– Paige is my new go-to brand for fit!)
I love the colors in this top and how good it looks with white jeans. I’m also a fan of the longer-in-back style.
It hung a little looser than I typically like for my frame, but think it would make the cutest top for a cookout with friends before the temperatures get too hot.
Maggy London Cold Shoulder Dress (Regular & Petite)
Cold Shoulder Dress (2P) / Shoes (about 6 years old)
Again, blurry faces. Babe, are you seeing this?
I’m clearly digging the cold shoulder trend. Maybe it’s because my shoulders are a part of my body I like, or I just dig cutouts, but it they certainly make this dress a fun and flirty date night option.
Next up, let’s take a quick trip back to the strawberry patch.
Bobeau Off the Shoulder Print Top (Regular & Petite)
Top (Small Petite)
This top is obviously comfortable and the bright colors and off the shoulder design make it perfect for spring. I think it would also look super cute with skinny white jeans and paired with wedges for a casual night out.
Don’t giggle too hard at that last statement and let’s just pretend my social life is booming with casual nights out on the town.
La Blanca ‘Island Fare’ V-Neck Cover-Up Tunic
Cover Up (XS) / Bathing Suit / Flip Flops
Alright alright alright, let’s switch gears into swim. I need a decent cover up and splurged a little to try this one out.
I love the deep V and the detail. I am trying to decide between the color ICE (shown) and black. I just bought this hat that I think would go really well with the black cover up so….. jury is still out!
Caslon® Linen Blend Off the Shoulder Tee
Top (XS Petite) / Shorts- Sold Out (Similar) / Sandals
At this point the sun was starting to set and we hit “the magic hour.” In photography it means that basically you can do no wrong. Any picture you take is going to come out looking pretty darn good!
I wish I could link the the hat but it’s from Old Navy and it isn’t available online. This one is really similar though.
I am having such a fun time with fashion for what feels like the first time in forever. I finally just stopped taking it so seriously. I always was worried about picking the “right” thing and knowing what was in, but I’m finally starting to just go by how I feel in it and how I think it looks in pictures.
And I’m not the only one enjoying some dress up lately.
These two can’t stay out of my closet but it’s too cute to get upset about it.
Let’s talk spring weather and fashion!
What are your favorite wardrobe pieces right now?
What is something you are looking to add to your closet for spring and summer seasons?

Lovingg the Maggie London dress on you. Spring is for florals! <3

Those all look great on you! I especially love the cold shoulder top and the off the shoulder one you wore to the strawberry patch – so cute! I love the cold shoulder trend, but haven’t gotten any tops like that yet, on the list!

I wonder if that first one is supposed to be tight on the arms to keep it’s shape? If it was bigger it may slink too low? who knows! I love those Bobeau & Caselo tops on you – they look great and fun for summer.
Brittany Dixon says
That’s a good point about the cold shoulder tops. I think I’m just not used to things fitting snugly and don’t want it to look like it’s pulling. Thanks Liz!

and my favorite pieces right now are the Pixie Pants at Old Navy. I’ve bought them in three colors for work and feel very put together in them! They’re a good length on my shorter legs and they’re also good for church with ballet flats.
Jodi Hancock says
This post made me smile. You are too cute.
Brittany Dixon says
Thanks Jodi! I feel goofy in front of the camera but it sure was fun 🙂
Laura says
Such great pictures! You look so cute! I especially love the orange cold shoulder tee.
I am looking forward to freshening up my spring wardrobe as well. Just have to figure out when I will be able to go shopping without my 2 little people!
Brittany Dixon says
That is why I am so hooked on online shopping right now! Makes shopping so much easier (and slightly more dangerous and clicking a button makes things way too easy…)
Jeanne says
Loving your fashion posts. Everything looks really cute.
Brittany Dixon says
Thanks Jeanne! 🙂
Tracy says
I love fashion posts! Thanks for sharing! Everything is cute but one comment I have is that all the tops/dresses are so loose fitting. Comfortable, yes, but you have a cute figure. Show off your waist!
Brittany Dixon says
Thank you Tracy!! I do agree though that too much fabric gets lost on my short frame. I like your suggestion of trying to find more tailored looks. I just never want to look like I’m wearing spandex, but I’m sure their has to be an in-between 😉 The search continues!
Heather says
Love the orange top and the off-shoulder tops, especially one in the berry patch! I don’t really care for drop waist shirts in general, and I am torn on the dress. So pretty, but you do have a fantastic figure that you should show off! I guess if it was a steal I would keep it, but if it was not, I would find another option. You take great pictures though!
Brittany Dixon says
Thanks for the input Heather! I love drop waist, though I’m not sure they do much for my short stature. I keep trying though, haha!
Ali says
My fave was definitely the strawberry patch one!! And the necklace and shoes that you had on with the bright orange top.
I am trying to cold shoulder thing too. Found one too so far that I like. But sometimes I don’t like the trend BECAUSE it’s a trend…..
Kim says
I love your fashion posts, you really do have great taste and are getting this modeling this down, being serious! The second outfit, first photo, H looks just like you!
Brittany Dixon says
Thank you Kim! And do you know how much it makes my heart sing when I hear Hailey looks like me? I hope she likes it too because it sure makes me smile 🙂
Maria says
Many compliments to David on his role as photographer, but as any photographer knows, a great subject makes things a lot easier 😉
I love the outfits and think the off the shoulder tops are definitely my favorite sand look really good on you! The key is a comfy strapless bra (do those exist?). For the cover-up, I think I’d prefer black because it’s more versatile, but the blue is very tropical!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh, you make me blush 😉
I actually switched the cover-up to black, so funny you would say that! I’m still on the hunt for a great strapless bra (post nursing for 3 years makes that hunt even more fun). I’m with you though, not sure if that exists!
Annie says
I am in love with your hat in the last few pics! I am still too nervous to give this trend a shot but I think I may need to soon! My closet is in desperate need of a makeover. Most of my clothes feel too young for me now as a mom or just don’t fit that well anymore… too tight in some places, loose in others, ya know. I have a credit with thredUP right now and normally I love their options but have yet to find anything I love. I also don’t like spending tons of money because really, I wear scrubs most days of the week at work and yoga pants at home! Not much of a social life over here!
Brittany Dixon says
David’s closet consists mostly of scrubs too so I get it 😉 Hop on that hat trend though! It’s SO cute plus it blocks the sun from my face, which is a goal of mine here in my 30’s – win win 🙂
