I arrived home last night to chaos.
Ok, I exaggerate, but only slightly. David actually picked up as much as he could so I didn’t have a heart attack, but still, the house is covered with a thin layer of dust, brown paper is rolled all over the floors and, oh yeah, our bathrooms are totally ripped apart (which I actually know is a good thing, but my poor little neat freak heart is taking it hard). Did I mention we are redoing our powder room too? At least we still have the sink for now.
David and I have temporarily moved into the guest room, which means things are scattered between rooms and all over the halls.
So though I am fully aware that it is a #firstworldproblem, it is indeed a little chaotic.
Still I felt pumped up to get my health on. I guess I’m sensing summer creeping closer and though I’m not a BIKINI SEASON BOOTCAMP kind of gal, I do feel an urge to clean things up a bit (thanks Mom for the spoonfuls -plural- of cookie dough and dad, for the midweek martini!).
I hit up Burn Bootcamp this morning for metabolic conditioning. There were 10 stations and the goal was to get 100 reps at each in under 3 minutes. I managed to hit that goal in 8/10 stations which I felt pretty good about, but I’ll be darned if half burpees didn’t almost do me in. I really missed this special form of torture of the past few days while I was away.
High on endorphins, Kaitlyn and I hit up Whole Foods.
I didn’t have time to rewrite my grocery list neatly or even spell andouille correctly but my chicken scratch worked well enough to pull together the necessary items for this week’s meals, which are:
Grilled Chicken with Mango Salsa and Roasted Broccoli
Grilled Mahi Tacos with Roasted Asparagus
Steak Fajitas
Homemade Spaghetti over Spaghetti Squash
Pulled Pork BBQ on Sweet Potato Buns
Buffalo Chicken Salads
I ran into my friend Courtney while I was there, which reminded me to also pick up some of this sauerkraut that she introduced me to.
Oh my goodness y’all, it’s SO good!! It’s smelly, yes, but absolutely delicious. I ate it with a leftover chicken sausage for lunch.
I also got to try some Lenny Boy Brewing Beet Kombucha, which considering my disdain for beets, I was surprised at how much I liked it!
After picking Hailey up, I unloaded, threw lunch at the girls and now everyone is napping. Well, not really, Hailey is jumping around her bedroom, which means I better go shower before I lose my window of opportunity. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Have you tried any new healthy foods lately that you love?

That’s the best type of high 😉

I can’t wait to see the “after” pictures of the remodel! I’m still renting but living vicariously through homeowners. Some day 🙂
Also, being a perfectionist, detail-oriented, or highly organized is not the same as having OCD. I have no idea if you do or do not have OCD (and I don’t need to know), but the “OCD tendencies” you mentioned are not actual OCD tendencies.

Hi Irina! I just went back to edit the post and take that out. I certainly did not intend to be insensitive. Thanks for highlighting it!

oh my gosh I’m laughing so hard- your thoughts/reaction/comments to the mess is so me. I know something may be a work in progress but my stress level still sky rockets. My husband always does his best to clean things up so I don’t lose my mind. Oh boy, my husband is so lucky 🙂

Hate that film of dust that always lingers. Just keep thinking of how nice it will be when it’s done. I don’t know that they are healthy but the new sargento balanced breaks snacks are awesome: cheese nuts and raisins
Brittany Dixon says
I just heard about those Sargento snacks- they sound delicious!!

Oh, the joys of renovation! I thought I would die last year when we ripped out the carpet and put in hardwood floors. Oh, the mess…

Just curious, do you always buy everything organic? Often times, many items are not available in organic varieties. Would you just not buy that item or would you buy a regular item instead so you can still stick with your meal plan? I often have to make these decisions and it’s so frustrating. Also, I hardly ever find organic grapes and my son loves grapes, so what is a mom to do?! Love your blog. Thanks!
Brittany Dixon says
Hey Lindsay! I do not buy everything organic, though I do largely buy organic. I prefer to shop at Whole Foods and their 360 brand actually has a lot of organic options at good prices. As for produce, I try to stick to organic for the big guys (like greens, berries, peppers, etc), but sometimes organic isn’t available or I’m not as concerned about it (bananas, pineapples, melons, etc). Like you though, I make a week by week decision based on budget, need, who is going to be eating it, etc. And YES, organic grapes are really hard to find. Sadly we don’t get them very often because even if I can find them they are $$$.

Ohh I’m really curious about that kombucha! I hope remodeling goes well!

I’m looking forward to seeing your after pictures! Our master bathroom is the one major thing that’s not complete even after we’ve moved back into our house and I’m so looking forward to having it done!
