Similarly to my day in the life posts, I find it joyful to peruse my old currently posts just as much as I love reading when other bloggers post them. It’s neat to see a snapshot in time; what life looks and feels like at a certain pin point.
Currently, I’ve just sneaked into my room with my computer after having a girls’ sleepover in the living room. David has been gone for work, so we moved the table, spread out pillows and blankets, watched Highschool Musical, ate popcorn and ice cream sundaes, and, the girls’ favorite part, let Finley pile right on top and sleep with us. It was one of those sweet parenting moments you know you’ll hold onto. So for as long as the kids are still snoozing, I’m tucked away in here drinking my earl grey and typing this…
Currently Reading: I recently finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which was really entertaining, like an insider view to old school Hollywood. Now I’ve switched gears and am reading Jon Acuff’s book Finish, after heading him on a podcast. I’m only one chapter in but it is already speaking to me. I can see myself in a lot of what he says and I’m excited to see what I come away with at the end of the book that I can implement that will help me implement and finish some of the ideas in my head.
Blog wise, I’m reading Julie, Sarah, Christina, Jen, and Shay I’m really into old school blogging right now and am looking for others to read that share the day to day and thoughts about life. If you have any that you write or read, please share them with me!
Currently Eating: real dinners. It’s probably the post vacation motivation and the fact that most of our evening activities haven’t started yet, because I’m enjoying cooking and eating good food. This week we had lemon rosemary roasted chicken, ribeye with green beans and homemade rolls, and coconut curry soup with the brown rice and millet ramen.
Currently Drinking: tea. Months ago when I switched to brewing a pot of coffee in the morning for David, I started drinking it too just because it was easy. At Disney and now that David has been out of town for a couple days, I’ve been brewing Earl Grey and remembering how much I love it.
Everyday I also drink: a Spindrift and a bottle of water with LMNT, without it I feel so dehydrated and extra thirsty. I also found grapefruit Fever Tree at Costco and loaded the fridge with those. It makes for a great bubbly evening drink when I want something that feels special and “adult” but don’t want to have vodka splashed on ice with lemon and olives on a Tuesday.
Currently Feeling: acutely aware of the passage of time. Maybe it’s my last year in my 30’s sneaking up on me or the signs that Hailey is most definitely entering tweendom and Kaitlyn is hot on her heels, but I’ve almost felt like I’m stepped back watching my life from the outside in certain moments.
I’ve always been fairly confident (not that I haven’t been humbled plenty of times) in my parenting abilities for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Those years are behind me now. I’m reading and learning about what this next stage of parenting will be like, hoping I will be able to successfully fill my role of guiding our girls into their tween years with grace and connection at the forefront. It feels like an important task and one I want to do well.
Anytime I experience an emotion that feels too big, I go to gratitude, focusing on deep thankfulness for what (really who) I have without trying to form an attachment to the moment. Rather to just be present and experience the beauty it has to offer, knowing that time will continue to roll on. Inhale…. exhale… step forward.
Currently in the Market for: It should be a new car because David was stranded at 11:00 PM on the side of a highway in nowhere, TN on Wednesday night (he was headed to Nashville for work and had to stop at the Gatlinburg properties which pushed his timing back; I was frantically calling towing and cabs because his phone was on low battery… honestly it all scared the heck out of me, but all is well that ends well and he got an Uber to a hotel down the way at 12:30 AM and ubered back to the car with a new battery to install the next morning). So, it should be a new car, but we just paid to put a new alternator in and some other fixes so hopefully that buys us some more time.
So instead I’m in the market for some framed pictures and maybe a plant to decorate the new living room shelves David built. I’m really tempted to cover them in pumpkins, but I’m trying to hold off until Labor Day. 😉
Currently Planning: A ski trip! I love that we made a quick trip to Deer Valley happen this year, and would like to stay a little longer on our next trip. I’m not sure where yet, but we think we are going to branch out from Utah and go to Colorado instead. Recommendations on favorite family-friendly spots? I’d also really love to rent an RV and try that out. No idea of any details for that though. I’m also going to try to learn how to spend credit card points. We have a ton and I’m just not savvy with how to make them work for us.
Currently Watching: Bad Vegan. I deleted TikTok because while entertaining, it felt like too much of a mindless time suck. So David and I started watching Bad Vegan in the evening and though it’s completely bizarre, it is entertaining! The kids and I have been watching Full House and they love it. It’s just as cheesy and wonderful as I remember.
Currently Looking Forward to: FALL. There, I’ve said it and I don’t care who knows it! Well, not fall itself, but that slow, late summer fade. While I’m not wishing away the longer days or the sunshine, I can’t deny the fact that I’m excited for football (Hailey shares this sentiment with me), the coziness of fall scents and colors wafting through stores, and slightly cooler afternoon walks. Next week our highs are supposed to be only 82/83 and I’m stoked.
