Online shopping. Those two words are music to any mom’s ears. Though parenting in today’s world has its own unique challenges, it also comes with some perks. The ability to order kids’ pajamas, birthday gifts, brown rice, cleaning supplies, makeup, and roughly a billion more items and have them delivered (sometimes SAME DAY) to my front door is mind-boggling. And beautiful. Seriously, what a beautiful convenience- amiright?
However, along with every new advancement comes a new challenge. In the case of online shopping, package theft emerged and it can be everything from a minor nuisance to an expensive and frustrating ordeal. This is often on the top of mind when I order online because over the last year it’s become a real problem in our area. It’s not unusual to see warnings on our neighborhood Facebook pages about boxes disappearing off front porches. It’s not such a big deal if if it’s a delivery of some pens I ordered off Amazon, but now that it’s a common occurrence for people to purchase electronics, clothes, and other pricey items, it is something to really think about.
David and I have talked about how to combat this nuisance and the best we came up with was to try and be at home when packages are delivered, but any busy parent can tell you that is easier said than done. However a couple months ago I was given the opportunity to try Blink Home Security cameras and found exactly what we needed.
Blink Home Security is the completely wire-free home security camera system that sends motion-activated alerts & HD video to your smartphone for just $99. No contract, no wires, and batteries that last 2 years. We installed both the Blink for Home Indoor Camera System and the Blink for Home Outdoor XT Camera System. Let me just ease your fears really quickly on the word installed. I am not the technology guru in our house and the idea of connecting electronics turns me off really quickly. However, it’s like Blink for Home knew I am not the only one that feels that way because the step by step instructions are simple to follow. I’m not kidding, from the simplicity of how to open the box and insert batteries to how to link it to your phone, every single step is laid out in clarity.
This system gets bonus points from me because there are no contracts. Alerts get sent to my phone in real time and video clips save to my Blink app so I can view them immediately or later. I’m hoping I never have to show them to the police in the case of package theft, but knowing that I’ll have the clip recorded if it does happen gives me peace of mind.
Being that the Blink for Home system is completely wire-free, it makes it easy to set up the cameras in places that make sense. There is no drilling holes or running wires, David used one simple screw and our front door camera was installed and ready.
The system allows for customization in the fact that you can set motion alerts (which I love for our exterior cameras) or turn them off (which I do for some of our interior cameras). The system even monitors temperature which is not a highlighted feature, but one I find really helpful when checking in on the girls at night. If it’s too cold, Kaitlyn will wake up, so I always double check the temperature in her room before heading to bed for the night!
We’ve loved using this incredible monitoring system to keep our packages safe as well as using the interior cameras that allow me to see what is going on in the playroom when I’m downstairs making dinner. And being that the system is wireless, we can move the cameras around whenever we like.
If I sound like a fan-girl, it’s with good reason. The system is awesome. Blink for Home gives you the ability to watch over your deliveries, peek in on your kids, see what your pets are up to, and offers peace of mind no matter where you happen to be.
So go check them out today before you place a single Christmas order and if you have any questions, ask away! I’m more than happy to answer any questions you might have on this awesome system.
If you are ready to further you home security with Blink for Home, good news! They are offering you 15% off $150+ order code. Simply enter the code HEALTHYSLICE17 at check out. It’s good to use through 11/22-11/30 then it disappears so don’t wait!

Hey Brittany!
Hope all is well! Just read through your post on blink and couldn’t help but comiserate with you regarding the online shopping and package theft. Happened to us when we moved into our home last year. Anyway, the cameras were great and we gave the footage to the police, but yes, unfortunately there are not s lot of great solutions out there. With that being said, wanted to just share the company my husband started bc of all this (getBoxLock.com). Check it out if you have a minute 🙂 it just launched on Kickstarter last week!
Love all your posts!
