Hm, not sure why I titled this in the plural form, as there was only one baby shower and singular day date this weekend, but somehow it flowed more nicely. The jest of it though, Saturday was so much fun!
It started with Julie’s baby shower that was just beautiful. I get so excited to celebrate babies, especially someone’s first, because it really is such an incredibly special time in their life. And if there happens to be wine, well that just makes it sweeter (wink).
I tried to play it cool but when it comes to games my inner Monica Gellar just can’t be muzzled and it showed as I giddily accepted one of the prizes. I also loved the diaper note idea and think these will certainly be sweet to read at those 12am diaper changes (and the 2am and 4am…).
Julie has some really wonderful friends (and family!) and I was so thrilled to finally meet Alyssa and Brittany, who were both so sweet, just as I expected. I feel like I’ve known Alyssa for years, and as I predicted, she had me laughing the whole time!
As the shower came to a close, I rushed out to go meet our sitter and grab David for our fun day date.
Though we love a good dinner out, I’ve been craving some adventure so we switched things up and got a sitter for the afternoon to hit up the USNWC’s Brew Bash.
Local brewers offered 4oz sample pours and we wasted no time joining in…
However, as much as we love beer samples, we were more drawn to the activities. I’ve been wanting to do the ropes course for a while now and the new one over the river was just too tempting to pass up.
Fun fact: I’m scared of heights. It makes my stomach flipflop and my legs shake, which only made me more determined to conquer it. With David’s encouragement, we suited up and went for it.
I wish I could have brought my camera up there, but you’ll just have to take my word for it- we ended up completing both black (expert level) courses! By the end, my arms were shaking and we were pouring sweat, but victory tasted so sweet.
We picked up Indian food on the way home and decided more adventure dates were in order in the future.
Sunday was a TCB day (taking care of business). And that we did. We knocked out multiple lingering chores, including going through all the girls’ clothes and organizing their closets while separating out clothes to donate.
I also hit up the grocery store and after reading this funny yet accurate article, I couldn’t resist buying a bottle of Pelligrino.
…Annnnnnnd splurging on cedar planks for dinner.
Today is starting off like a true Monday, as Kaitlyn is up brighter and earlier than usual, but after a fun weekend, I feel ready for it. And with that, I’m off!
What is your favorite kind of date? Good food? Events? Adventures?
What is the best date you’ve ever been on?
Karen says
OMG……awesome date with the hubby. For us we would have done the whitewater paddling first then the ropes course. I sure wish we had something like that here in our area. You are soooooo lucky!
Brynn says
i love everything about this; beer and adventures in the afternoon on a date with your husband. Too fun!! Any date I get with my husband is wonderful. But my favorites are talking over wine outside and put-put golf.
Jacklyn @ Jack's Balancing Act says
Aww it’s neat to see some of your favourite bloggers together! And thanks for the date inspiration – it barely crosses my mind to do something other than go out for a meal but your Saturday sounds like so much fun!!
John J. says
Congrats on adventure success. Awesome! Living a healthy life, sharing it with someone you love is tough to beat. I know first hand!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
What a fun adventure date! I love the picture of you with the beer! And Julie’s shower sounds like it was so wonderful!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
UM, that looks like the best fun beer fest EVER. Why didn’t I go hop on board with you? 😉 Britt and I totally could have doubled.
It was SO fun to finally hang with you. I can’t wait for playtime to come!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
Sounds like a fun weekend to me!
I did a ropes course for the first time when I started grad school, and it definitely didn’t go over too well. I can ride roller coasters, I’ve been sky diving, etc., but when it comes to doing a ropes course, I totally freak out!
You did great though! Great job 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
You can sky dive?! I just don’t think I’d ever be able to. I think I’d just cry haha!
Heather says
That sounds like such a fun idea for a date! Granted, I don’t know that I could overcome my fear of heights, but love the idea of doing something more adventurous!
Laura @FitMamaLove says
What a fun way to spend the day together! It’s always nice doing something active as a couple.
Jessica says
That looks like so much fun! I live in the Charlotte area and have yet to go to the whitewater center. Now I want to try it even more! Plus, day dates and breakfast dates are our thing!
Brittany Dixon says
Oh you must check it out! We’re north of Charlotte but always find it’s more than worth the drive. 🙂
Joanna @Makingmine says
I love that diaper note idea – cute AND practical! Baby showers are the best! 🙂
Alyssa McQ says
I totally went to the Brew Bash last year with my husband, sister and her boyfriend (she lives in Charlotte)! So much fun. Just wanted to stop in and say that I made your chicken enchiladas, some blueberry muffins, and a batch of oatmeal-chocolate chip cookies for my friend who just had a baby. It was all a big hit, and she even asked for the recipe for the chicken enchiladas–thanks for the suggestions on what to make!
Brittany Dixon says
Thanks so much for the feedback! I’m so glad they were a hit 🙂
Tracy says
Hi Brittany! I’m sorry for the random question but where did you get your great room rug? I’m looking for something similar and love the colors! Thanks!
Brittany Dixon says
Hey Tracy! I got it from World Market about 5 years ago. If I remember correctly, they have very reasonable prices for rugs!
Jen@Jpabstfitness says
Fun weekend! We love adventure dates 🙂
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood says
What a busy bee you were! Looks like you had SO much fun this weekend!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
I’m lucky that Brittany and Alyssa are here in Richmond! 🙂 You should come visit! It sounds like you had a fun weekend!
Brittany Dixon says
I hope to come visit sometime soon! I’ve never been 🙂
Brittany says
YESS!! 🙂
Christina says
such a pretty dress you have on!!
Brittany Dixon says
Thank you! I love Anthropologie 😉
Josephine says
I thought the sme as above, the dress looks beautiful on you. I wish I had stitch fix in the UK. My husband and I always do date night at home with an antipasti board, cheese and wine. I really have to get a babysitter given my daughter is almost four, it would be nice to get out of the house on dates! We tend to do restaurants at lunch time on a Saturday as a family and we aren’t very good at being active! We might look a little better, like you and David if we put down the food and wine and did something active together!
Brittany Dixon says
But it’s really hard to put down a good cheese plate and wine! 😉 I love at-home-date-nights too. The price is right for sure!
Brittany says
The Brew Bash + Ropes Course date sounds like so much fun. Perfect combo… as long as you don’t drink too much. 😉
It was so great meeting you. Can’t wait for you to come visit us in RVA!
