Happy Friday from Washington DC!
Yesterday we drove through the beautiful state of Virginia (which is seriously gorgeous with its rolling hills and changing leaves) to arrive in our nation’s capital! Being that I’ve never been here, I’m quite excited to explore! Saturday will be for exploration, though, because today we’ll be admiring sailboats at the Annapolis boat show!
I’ll be instagramming pictures, so follow me if you like big boats! (…and you can not lie)
I know this post is rather lackluster, but I refuse to pay $12 a day for Internet, so a phone post it is 🙂
Feel free to send tips of what I need to see on our one day in DC and have a wonderful weekend!

Whooo, DC! Currently sitting in my little cubicle at George Washington University 🙂 Here is my advice:
-If you only have one day… do the touristy things! Go to the Mall, see the monuments and check out the Smithsonians (yes, plural – it’s actually a collection of museums). If you want specifics: American History Museum has cool pop culture artifacts (Muppets!!!), the Natural History Museum has a huge elephant and the Hope Diamond, and there is always Air and Space, too.
– It could be a downer, but the National Holocaust Museum is aaaamazing. Really. The Newseum is also cool but about $20/person (focused on, duh, media).
-Go to the FDR memorial by the Tidal Basin, it’s gorgeous. Or the MLK memorial because it is new and is surrounded by quotes carved into stones.
-Ethiopian food on U street. Seriously. If you want other food recs, let me know!

I LOVE your city! I took you up on your recs and saw the mall, Air and Space and the Natural History Museum because I HAD to see the elephant. I loved it! I also loved the whale. It was probably my favorite museum we saw. Now I just need to come back and try the Ethiopian food! Thank you! 🙂

I second the holocaust museum- very sad but I believe everyone must see it at least once! The American history museum is really cool- it’s where Julia Child’s kitchen is, among other fun stuff!
Pizza Paradiso has some of the best pizza, and lots of fun beers and ciders to choose from!
Have a great time! 🙂

I wish I would have had more time because I really wanted to see so much more, including the holocaust museum. We visited Dachau when we were in Germany and it was so sad and so powerful.

DC is about 1 hour away from school! I definitely would go to the Mall, check out Lincoln! He’s my favorite!, White house, etc. If you have time, go to Georgetown. You can either do a really touristy thing and go to Georgetown cupcakes aka DC cupcakes or go to Baked an Wired! They top DC cupcakes in my opinion!!
Also, since you did the accent vlog last friday, I decided to do one as well because it looked so fun! My first Vlog is up today!!
Have fun in DC!

I LOVED Lincoln- very cool! And I can’t believe I never made it to either cupcake shop. Sigh…
I’ll have to check out your vlog! 🙂

I live in Bowie which is only 10 minutes from Annapolis and I work on the Eastern Shore, crossing the Bay Bridge everyday. I agree with the above, you can’t go wrong with the mall, the monuments and museums. This weekend (Oct 6-8) is also the Taste of DC, Saturday is Taste of Bethesda and an arts festival in Arlington. Lots going on. My husband and I are going to Taste of Bethesda and the Bowie International Festival. If you find your way to either of those, I’d love to bump into you and H (not literally, of course) 🙂
Brittany says
I’m SO jealous you live so close to Annapolis- such an adorable town!
I would have loved to bump into you and hate that we were so short on time during our stay. You know I would have JUMPED at the chance to go to taste of … well, anywhere;)

I live DC! I think if yoi only have one day then the Mall and the Natural History Museums is the way to go. I think Bailey would love the Natural History Museum because the exhibits are very large and easy to see…enjoy your trip!

Yay DC! Of course the National Mall (be sure to eat before you go b/c there’s not much right around there to eat) –
Food recs: Founding Farmers downtown http://www.wearefoundingfarmers.com/
and Two Amys Pizza (the best I’ve ever had outside of Italy) – bonus, it’s near the National Cathedral:

The Newseum is awesome! I highly recommend it. 🙂 Have fun!

A couple of people mentioned the Newseum- now I have to go back so I can visit it! …and a billion other awesome sounding places 🙂

Welcome to my city! 🙂 Everyone has already given you great recommendations, so I don’t have much to add….I will second the recommendations for Georgetown Cupcakes and Pizzeria Paradiso (both are in Georgetown and very close to each other). Take a long walk around the Tidal Basin (you’ll see the Jefferson, FDR, and MLK Jr memorials up close this way, and its stroller-friendly). The American Indian Museum has an EXCELLENT cafeteria with really unique food (and the Museum is great as well!) Enjoy!!!!
Brittany says
I LOVE your city! I will have to come back, though, because one day just isn’t enough to get to all the awesome sites- like Georgetown Cupcakes 😉
Thanks for the suggestions!!

Have fun in DC!!

Almost wish I could run in to you! But then it would be awkward as I’d bring up stuff from the blog and sound crazy! Any who, the out door garden at the art museum is nice for kids as is the natural history museum. American history museum is cool for the first lady’s exhibit and the carousal on the mall is fun! And you would LOVE Eastern Market on Captiol Hill, fun flea market and awesome food market. Hill’s Kitchen is a great local kitchen supply shop right across from the Eastern Market metro and the neighborhood is SUPER kid friendly (that’s where we live 🙂 )
Brittany says
Haha, did you see my vlog? If anyone would be awkward and crazy, it would be ME 😉 I want to come back to DC and when I do, we’ll have to run into each other and you can show me through the flea market, which I totally missed somehow!

Have a great trip! I’m headed to DC next summer for a convention so I’m taking notes on what everyone suggests. Excited to hear how it is!
Danica @ It's Progression says
Hope you have a great trip!!

The museum of the American Indian iscazing and the food court is supposed to be delish. Walk the monuments at night and I can’t remember who or why but it was suggested to me on our last trip to walk them backwards for some reason but anyways it was a good suggestion nonetheless.
Also pizzeria paradisio is so good
Brittany says
I’m so sad I missed this pizzeria… SO many people suggested it. Next time, FOR SURE 🙂
