Good Monday morning! You know what has my engines feeling revved this morning? One heck of a satisfying weekend. Sometimes I start the week feeling like I’m already trying to play catch-up, but not this week. I’m feeling refreshed and on top of things (mind you it’s only 6:30am so by noon I may be singing a different tune) and I think I figured out exactly what it takes to wind up here…
BEER!
Just kidding…
Step 1. Some one one time with David. I’m not certain if it’s the change of scenery, the unbroken conversation or being out of the house past 7pm, but date nights rule. We used a gift card from David’s Uncle Kerry to treat ourselves to a night out at Bonefish. You know the conversation was good when only one picture came from the night.
Luckily it’s a top-notch photo, huh?
Step 2. A little exercise with the family. Saturday morning we went walking as a family and covered about 2.5 miles. It was a leisurely stroll including chats with the neighbors and the weather was crisp and sunny. Perfection.
Step 3: Adventure. Naptime on Saturday included watching Georgia’s narrow win against Tennessee, then we all headed out to The Great Chili Cook Off. We, along with about a million other people, thought it was the perfect day to jam out to live music and devour some chili.
We sampled a plethora of chili, played in the bouncy houses with friends and topped off the night with pizza and beer at The Salty Caper.
In light of full disclosure, this peaceful picture lasted about 20 minutes before both girls melted down. It didn’t rain on our parade though, as the girls went straight to bed and we watched the South Carolina/Mizzou game- WOW. And wahoo!
Step 4: Productivity. I love me some work/play balance and with our play tank full, it was on to work. David and I tackled Sunday with vigor. For me it meant serious cleaning, a mega-grocery run, all the laundry (truly… every piece of clothing in my house is clean right now!!!) and food prep.
It’s my first time adding avocado- fingers crossed!
David lucked out and enlisted an assistant.
Light bulbs changed, chandeliers cleaned, garage doors working, hot tub fixed, driveway edged… I love that David is handy, like his dad (who had a birthday yesterday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY )
We finally flopped on the couch with a satisfied sigh around 9pm and ended the awesome weekend with a new episode of Modern Family.
And with that, we’re back to Monday!
What makes a great weekend to you?

Sounds like a perfect recipe for a wonderful weekend! I like to find a little me time as well in the form of a bath, coffee with a girlfriend, yoga class or a few minutes with a book.
Brittany Dixon says
Oh how I miss yoga! So glad you had a nice weekend 🙂
John J. Stathas says
Whew, thanks for the energy blast! You’ve helped me get going – on to Atlanta for sessions for two days then off to our anniversary getaway at at the King and Prince at St. Simon’s Island. Great weekend: biking, golf, boating to Gaby’s with a vodka shared with my lovely spouse!
JoAnn says
We were in line behind you at the bouncy house Saturday but decided to allow you to enjoy family time and be stalker-ish!
A balanced weekend sure sets the tone for the week to come. And can I say I’m super jealous of the completely clean laundry???
Brittany Dixon says
You totally should have said hi! Did you by chance see me flash my underwear to everyone? Haha! A lady behind me came and whispered in my ear that the Ergo I was wearing Kaitlyn in was pushing down my skirt, thus exposing more than I meant to! Hope you missed that view 😉
JoAnn says
I missed the underwear flash. I most definitely would have let you know. Sounds like she handled it nicely (not everyone is so nice).

I totally know what you mean – a weekend filled with organization and some beers with family and friends is perfect! I would love to hear about activities you did with Hailey at 11 months old. I am trying to create a bit of a schedule so my little one and I don’t go crazy inside all winter 🙂 Any classes out there that you loved? Thanks!!
Brittany Dixon says
We tried Gymboree, but it was expensive so I just grabbed the numbers of the women I met there and that’s how we founded out play group! I’m a big fan of playgroups at that age.
Also, library story times, kids museums (bonus if they have a toddler play area!), local art or music classes (usually affordable and age appropriate). I’m sure your days will fill up more quickly tan you realize 😉

ha, beer and sriracha would be a great start to my week too!! the last picture of H & D is so cute!

Sounds like a great weekend to me! I always like spending time with my friends or family if I can! As well as being productive- studying!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
That sounds like a lovely weekend!!! I like a good mix of activities, lots of delicious food, and enough time to relax and prepare for the week 🙂 (I got just that, so it was a great weekend here as well!)
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
Sounds like a pretty perfect weekend to me! We’re enjoying the last warm days here in Colorado, so we went out Friday night and tried a new restaurant, which left us with Saturday afternoon to chill in our backyard: a little work (raking leaves) and a little relaxation (grilling and sitting on patio furniture, reading). I’m going to miss summer!

My 18 month old had her first bounce-house experience this weekend and loved it! I love fun and productive weekends! 🙂
Laura @FitMamaLove says
Sounds like a fun and productive weekend! I love that you included the tidbit about the girls melting down. Keeps it real! I kept it real in my post today too with a video of my kids screaming in the car. Fun times! 🙂

Sounds like a great weekend! For me a great weekend has a mix of fun and productivity to it. I feel good when I have time to accomplish something, and then like to celebrate with doing fun stuff with my family – be it a walk or going somewhere or just hanging out and having fun at home.
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
That does sound like a great weekend indeed! I always love a good mix of fun and productivity. 🙂

Having just had a rather stressful weekend, I suspect a healthy toddler will make for a great weekend!
Alex says
You weekend looks like it was so much fun! Does Charlotte have an annual chili cook off?? Looks mighty yummy. I’d also love to hear how your avocado adventure in the salad turns out. I usually add mine the morning off for that reason, but is love to hear if you have success. I’m all about a time saver.
Brittany Dixon says
This one is just north of Charlotte in Mooresville. I’m sure there are several in the area though! This one was huge a lot of fun. And as for the avocado, day 1 was a success 😉
Urban Wife says
Gosh, having ALL THE LAUNDRY clean and put away is right up there with fluffy pillows and dark chocolate. For me, the best weekends are ones where we have a nice mix of fun stuff to do as well as making sure the house stuff is taken care of.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
I happen to think that beer is great, so I wouldn’t fault you for that!! 😉
Madeline @ Food Fitness and Family says
Sounds like a great weekend. I am going to have to message you some questions about the stroller! And I want to hear how the avocado in the salad jars works out 🙂
Jillian@Baby Doodah! (@jillianmack) says
Oh man!! Your weekend sounds soooo awesome!! The picture of David w/ his coffee and the girls in their stroller is probably my favorite. I have this day dream of my husband and I getting up and out of the house doing this, but it just never seems to happen. Something comes up, Emmett has a meltdown, one of us doesn’t feel like walking, etc etc. I think I need to just make the announcement that we’re going to do it and then JUST DO IT!! lol
A great weekend to me contains a good amount of fun, relaxation and productivity. Pretty much how your weekend turned out!
I think Fall is my favorite season for weekends, there is so much to do and it’s not too hot outside to do it. We’re busy like every single weekend from now until Winter. lol
