It always surprises me how one great weekend day can make me feel like I squeezed a week’s worth of relaxation out of it.
David worked Saturday, so Hailey and I took it upon ourselves to knock out meal planning, grocery shopping and errands. It worked out that Sunday was left wide open for family time.
By 8:15am we were on the boat. Coffee in hand. The lake is so calm and almost cool at that time of day.
We cruised north, playing peek-a-boo along the way.
With a snack and her pup, Hailey was all smiles on our way to Midway Marina. That’s a good thing, considering she is our official boat waver.
We hopped off and got in a couple rounds of ring swing before breakfast.
I must take this opportunity to brag share that I hooked the ring NINE times. David? None. But who’s counting?
Oh, me. I am counting.
Though David says the coffee is as watery as it gets, the omelets are good.
So are the breakfast potatoes if you like French fries for breakfast.
…and I do.
After breakfast the day really started to heat up. So off we went.
Until we found the perfect inlet at Lake Norman State Park.
We rigged the boat and found a trail.
Koda was a happy pup.
Eventually we packed back up and headed home. By the time Hailey’s head hit the pillow at 12:45, she was out… for about 3 hours. Which gave me plenty of time in the kitchen.
And for David, time in the yard.
About 4 hours in the yard. Our trimmed bushes and de-weeded, newly-mulched mailbox thank him.
I thank him for wearing that hat. Stud.
I would have helped more if I wasn’t playing lifeguard. But somebody has to splash around in the driveway ahem, watch Hailey.
Luckily for me, there are still plenty of projects to tackle next weekend.
And just like that, another summer weekend passed us by. Perhaps last night’s dinner reveals I am subconsciously ready for fall?
Nah, not quite yet.
What is your favorite summer-only activity?
Karen says
Seriously, you guys are TOO cute!! I think I need to move by you so Keely and Hailey can be friends as can we…LOL!! I think my summer only activity would be beachin’ it out. Since we live in the Midwest our fall & winters can be bad so really after September 1st, it’s no more beach. If I could live on a beach, I totally would!!
Brittany Dixon says
Move this way! We’d love to have more friends around 😉
lauren says
we spent the afternoon on LKN too – cruising around, lounging on the dock with multiple magazines & pups swimming!
Brittany Dixon says
Wasn’t it a great day?! We got home around 12:15 and the lake was getting pretty busy by then!

What a wonderful post, pictures showing how relaxing a weekend at Lake Norman can be. Reminded me of our relaxing life on Lake Oconee. Something about being on water. Have a great week!

That looks like the best Sunday ever! My to-do list includes : moving to lake, getting boat.
Heather Murphy says
I love the lake- it’s so relaxing! thanks for sharing your pictures. I feel relaxed just looking at them!

I read this this morning and need to figure out how to print it and leave it conveniently for jayson to read… We have a jet ski in our boat slip that I think needs to disappear and be replaced w a pontoon!!
Brittany Dixon says
We’ve embraced our pontoon with open arms! Don’t miss the ski boat at all. It’s like a floating playpen. Bring Jayson over to check it out!
Jessica says
Our son loves the water so I am grateful we have a pool at our apartment. Looks like you had a great day!
Quick question: Does Hailey have a ‘by the clock’ bedtime or do you shoot for a certain amount of hours after nap?
Brittany Dixon says
We usually shoot for 7pm, but her naps are starting to get longer and she is going down later (closer to 1pm), so I’m not sure what that means for the future. I might try pushing it back to 7:30, but I’m not ready to change anything just yet!
Danica @ It's Progression says
I’m so not ready for summer to be over either – it’s the one time of the year I love living in MN! I’m enjoying every last possible minute of it.
Looks like a spectacular Sunday!
Maria says
I’m still waiting on summer to arrive here in the Bay Area (I know, right?!), but we typically have a very hot Indian Summer (September-mid October) and I look forward to my book and the pool..something I haven’t done at all this year!
Can I vacation at your house next summer? 😉
Brittany Dixon says
Yes, you may vacation here. You tell me when!
And do I remember you saying something about being in NYC next month? Can you email details please 🙂
Hanna says
My favorite is our annual family trip to the beach!
Stacey@XOStacey says
Your family is so adorable!
Brittany Dixon says
Thank you! 🙂

Loved this post. It reminds me of growing up on Lake Wylie (not far from you guys!) where my parents still live. I live at the beach, but I’m a lake girl at heart! You can’t beat those summer night boat rides 🙂
Brittany Dixon says
I do love summer night boat rides, but the beach is pretty darn fantastic itself! I have friends near Lake Wylie- so beautiful!
Lauren K says
That looks like a wonderful family day–love that you can just wake up and head out on the boat! You guys have a big month coming up with Hailey turning 2 and you heading to NYC to celebrate being 30!! 🙂
Kathy says
That last picture–adorable!!!
Chantal says
I love that you live on a lake! So fun! My grandparents lived on a river growing up, and we loved taking rides on the boat to get ice cream.
Giselle@myhealthyhappyhome says
How fun that you can hop on your boat first thing in the morning and head out on an adventure but still be home by 1:00! Awesome! I have never heard of that ring game before but it sure looks like fun! I would be tooting my own horn too if I got the ring hooked but my hubby didn’t 🙂 We are pretty competitive with each other. In a fun way!
Matt @ The Athlete's Plate says
That breakfast looks so good!
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
What a perfect day!! Love your dress, and Hailey’s huge smile. 🙂 Breakfast looks awesome, too. My husband always complains about coffee- he needs it strong!

I’ve been a reader of your blog for a while but I haven’t commented until now. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading your posts each time there’s a new one. You seem so “real” compared to so many of the other healthy living blogs and I feel like you are much more relatable than others. I always look forward to reading your posts!

Sounds like a perfect weekend to me!!! I wish we had a boat and a place around us to go boating. Tyler’s parents live on a river, so we always go out when we’re there. I’m really interested to see how Nia likes it when we go up there in a few weeks time!
Kelli H says
Your day looks SO fun! Those pictures of Hailey & Koda are pretty darn cute. They kind of melt my heart!
Shari says
How fun! So glad you all had such a lovely day. This may be a goofy question, but what is “ring swing,” exactly? I’ve never heard of it before!
Neil Butterfield says
This looks like a weekend that you would never want to end. So glad that you and your family had such a great time.
