Yesterday morning we loaded up the car for another road trip, but this time we headed north!
One thing I love about living in the Charlotte area is that you are within driving distance to the beach or the mountains, and for this trip we chose mountains- Boone, NC to be exact. We arrived in time to meet Hubbs’ parents for lunch at Dan’l Boone Inn.
The building served as Boone’s first hospital, but now it serves up delicious southern home cooking.
Everything is served family style and there isn’t a menu. You simply sit down and they bring you food. Bottomless dishes to be exact!
The vegetable soup they serve you to start was my favorite!
After we fueled up at lunch, we were off to find our cabin. After winding down a few roads that made me nervous about where we might end up, we turned a corner and ta-daaaaaaaa!
Phew! As the cabin finder, I was relieved to see that it turned out to be a beautiful place. And just check out this amazing kitchen…
I know the picture isn’t great, thanks to the iphone, but the farmhouse sink and gorgeous gas range had me a little giddy.
Now we’ve settled in and are looking forward to ringing in the new year with all the Dixons, which includes 6 adults, 5 kids, one dog and whole lot of chaotic fun
I’m excited for some family time, some R&R and welcoming 2012 with this view…
What are you doing for New Years Eve?
Do you party it up, or ring it in in a more relaxed setting?
See you next year
More pictures…
with a side of toasted marshmallows.
In fact, I even am patting myself on the back for focusing on being in the moment, which led to a few less pictures than I normally take, but I really enjoyed relaxing and spending time with family.
However, what is amazing for the soul isn’t always good for the body. A few too many glasses of wine, chips and onion dip and more than one bowl of chili has my body feeling completely off. My stomach feels unsettled, my energy levels aren’t what they usually are and I even think Hailey has been reacting negatively to my change in diet.
Please go back to eating veggies, mom!
So as sad as I am to see another wonderful holiday season come to a close, my health is rejoicing for a return to normalcy. We’re driving back this morning and I anticipate this afternoon being a time of unloading, unpacking and unwinding. However, tomorrow I will be kicking productivity into high gear. And I’m excited.
But just like we always do, we welcomed 2012 with a little luck, love and money… so at least I’ve had some vegetables this year

What an awesome cabin to stay in and that view! Have a Happy New Year! I wish we could travel, but dogs keep us from doing so. We usually ring in the new year with friends at their place–pretty casual.

In years past we have partied it up, last year was a bit more low key as we were out of town with family, but having just had a baby the hubby and I were excited that my parents were going to watch her so we could enjoy the night out, turns out though that we don’t really have any plans, so we may be just all getting together with family. I guess we are getting to that age 🙂
