Happy Monday that actually feels like a Monday (in a good energy kind of way) because we are starting off our homeschool year today! Usually I’m a fan with a start it off with a BANG kind of vibe, but this year I’m feeling the “ease in” style of things. We are beginning with SPACE and I’ve picked up books from the library, cleaned the playroom “school” room, and am looking forward to jumping in and seeing what Gather ‘Round is all about. More details to come!
This weekend was a nice balance. I got a wild hair on Friday when I realized I couldn’t stare at the giant blank wall in our living room any longer. Our entire home has been sparsely decorated since we were going to sell in 2020 and wiped everything clean. We are working on the new life plan plan, but as long as we are here, I’ve decided I need to personalize our space at least a bit.
I texted my design savvy friends with heeeeeeeeeelllllpppp and with their guidance have decided to add two big wooden shelves. I’m picturing framed pictures of our travels, a place to put Christmas decor, and maybe a plant or two tumbling over the ledge. I’m grateful for a handy husband because David jumped right on it. He took measurements, bought wood (and a table saw), and got to it. Can’t wait to see the after!
Friday night we ate leftovers from the fridge, watched Crimes of Grindelwald, the kids are into any wizarding right now, and got a good night’s sleep.
Saturday we slept in, worked out, then got ready for a fun evening in Charlotte with friends tailgating and attending the Charlotte FC game. We parked around 2:30 and set up shop. We had music and games for the kids (Kubb is a always a hit), an finally got to use the portable grill I got David for Christmas.
Somehow, though I’ve lived here for 14 (!?) years, I’ve never been to the Bank of America stadium. This was such an exciting first experience. The energy was high, the kids loved it, and Charlotte FC won!
Sunday morning we were slow moving, so the cooler weather and rain was welcomed. The girls and I finished up the last Harry Potter book cuddled under a blanket on the porch then proceeded to kick off our movie watching marathon with The Sorcerer’s Stone.
David went into Charlotte to check on the demo of a house we are getting ready to sell and to pick up the wood for the living room shelves. I took Finley for a long walk and got caught in the rain, and made braised short ribs after shopping our deep freezer.
Hailey had a basketball clinic in the late afternoon then we had a relaxed evening of baths, painting for the kids, cleaning the house up, watching an episode of Money Heist (we are finally starting the last season) and crashing hard into bed.
I’m not sure how much I’ll be blogging this week. I want to give my creative energy to this first week of our new school year and organize my thoughts on topics I’d like to blog about it the future. Is there anything that you’d enjoy reading about?
We have a tour set up of Feed NC this week that I’m really looking forward to and want to pick a few read aloud books to line up for us now that we’ve finished Harry Potter.
I’m also looking into Prime Day to see if there are any deals worth taking advantage of. I’m keeping an eye on these compression packing cubes, Trekking the National Parks, and some random items like wooden spatulas, Flour Water Salt Yeast, Butcher Paper (for crafts).
I won’t lie, I’m a little confused at how it all works (deals come and go so quickly) and I’m not a “buy for the sake of it being on sale” kind of gal, but if I can snag some items I need or some Christmas gifts at a good price, I’m all about it!
Do you plan on buying anything during Prime Day? If so, what?
Is there a sale you keep an eye out for?

Where did you get that large basket in your living room? I’m looking for one to store blankets!

I got it from world market! It was maybe a year or two ago? But they usually have a great selection of baskets.

Happy first day/week of school! We started back on Tuesday last week, since it worked so well to start the day after Fourth of July last year for us. So far we’ve had a fun start to our year with lots of eagerness from both of my learners. I hope things so smoothly in your home, and that everyone enjoys the ride this school year will be!
I’d love to read about your experience with Gather Round once you’ve given it a go. I’ve heard mixed reviews but still have it in the back of my mind as an option to incorporate at some point in the future, especially since it allows for inclusion over large age gaps.

So glad you’ve had a great start to the year! Day 1 I was really excited about Gather Round, and now on day 2, I’m not sure. I love the science focused topic, but not sure about the workbook. Still, I’m going to do the whole space unit before giving my two cents. I’m really hoping it works well for us, but will certainly give my honest feedback.
