Usually I settle in here on Monday mornings eager to share the weekend’s festivities, but there really isn’t much to share because this weekend kicked our butts. I won’t say it was worthless though, as I did learn a few things…
1. Karma does indeed always come around. I think I shouted into this universe just a few too many times that Hailey never gets sick, so viola! by Friday afternoon she had developed a nasty cough, stuffy nose and generally pathetic overall demeanor- poor thing.
2. Grocery store take-out is the way to go for a healthy, quick dinner. I grabbed a piece of salmon from the Whole Foods prepared section on Friday and it covered dinner for both girls with ease. Best of all, I didn’t have to risk getting ill again while trying to feed them. Cooking for kids while your stomach is in recovery mode is pretty much impossible.
3. Dehydration happens more easily when breastfeeding. After my food poisoning adventure (I can’t even say the word lentil without gagging… for those that asked, it was a food storage mistake and I’m pretty sure they were too old to eat, but again, gag, I can’t talk about it), I obviously was not eager to put much of anything, liquid or solid, into my stomach. By Saturday afternoon I was feeling rough again, but it took me a while to realize it was from dehydration. I had the hardest time getting anything down- ice cold fruit smoothies were about all I could handle. Again, we were a pathetic bunch this weekend.
4. Big Hero 6 is made for the whole family! Sure, it has some really sad parts (why, Disney, why must you make movies with such sad circumstances?), but we all laughed out loud a time or too. It was a perfect snuggle up/sick day movie.
5. It is possible to avoid getting sick, even while surrounded by germs. We continuously wiped down every surface, washed hands until they cracked and David popped these like candy. Somehow he made it through unscathed!
6. Soap bubbles turn you into a magician in the eyes of a child.
7. Hailey can indeed get tired of watching TV. Who knew?! By midday Sunday, she turned it off voluntarily and we all moved to the porch to get some fresh air. It wasn’t long before Kaitlyn was swinging and Hailey was running around watering our strawberry plants. The fresh air did its job and we are all almost back to 100%.
8. One positive from the weekend, somehow Kaitlyn learned how to sleep from 7pm-7:15am over the past few days. Maybe it was just a gift to me while I recovered this weekend, but I have high hopes it’s here to stay?! Happy 10 months baby girl– thanks for the gift!
Though I’m back to feeling well, after barely eating for 3 days, I’m still not very excited about food. David ate turkey sandwiches for lunch and dinner the past 2 days and I’m not sure I see that changing anytime soon. The idea of meal planning doesn’t sound fun at the moment, but I suppose the fam is going to want to eat tonight, so to the store I go…
I hope your weekend was more exciting than mine!
Did you do anything to celebrate St. Patrick’s day?
Do you have a go-to movie for sick days?
Heather @Fit n Cookies says
Hope you feel b etter! I’ve had a stomach flu like that and the last thing you want is to think about food. I actually didn’t feel well over the weekend and had to skip all blog posts that talked ab out meal prep and anything with food! Hope you feel great today!
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables says
Poor thing! I’m so sorry you all were sick over the weekend. It takes me a while to get my appetite back too after something like that! Do you have any essential oils?? I know a few that might help!

I hope your stomach starts feeling better and food starts to sound appealing again soon. I just got over the stomach flu from last week – it was the worst. I’m pregnant and have a toddler and it hit on a snow day. The last thing I wanted to do was look at food or meal plan. The only thing that made me smile was since my husband ran to the bathroom door so many times to ask if I was okay – my 2 year old son started to do the same thing. It at least made me smile. π
Cheers to a better week ahead!

oh my gosh what a weekend! I’m glad you’re starting to feel better. When I feel sick I always curl up with movies or a good marathon of Gilmore Girls. My favorite movies are Beaches, Steal Magnolia and Legally Blond…ok, lets be honest, Clueless as well.

I am so sorry your family has been sick! I hope today’s sunshine makes you all feel 100% better!

The wonder in Hailey’s eyes set the tone for a wonderful Monday! Thanks for the pic.

Oh no, hope you’re feeling as good as new by the end of the day! Nothing worse than sick mommy and kiddies! Thankfully we didn’t have anything going around over here although I have heard of a lot of people catching the stomach bug recently. I always watched Home Alone as a child when I was sick! I really don’t know what it is about that movie but I love it to this day.

Ugh, that sounds tough. Glad that David didn’t get sick and I hope everyone is on the mend.
Last year when I was 37 weeks pregnant I got a stomach bug. It wasn’t food poisoning, but the last food I’d eaten (stir fry with cabbage and peanut sauce) was what came up, and it’s still not a combo I want to eat. I will never mention the “l” word to you, and I hope you feel all better soon!

My son and I got a fever virus a few weeks ago and it never touched my husband…I feel like they have some secret immunity gene!!
Monica says
It is so hard when anyone is sick, let alone more than one in the family! You are a trooper! I hope everyone is back to 100% soon!

Nothing worse than being sick on the weekend – glad you’re all better!
I tend to watch comedies when I’m not feeling well, though I don’t have just one go-to movie. Okay, maybe Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. I do tend to grab that one when I’m under the weather. π

We watched How to Train Your Dragon 2….or I watched it since my little one is only 7 months!
Hope everyone is feeling better this morning!

I’m sorry you had food poisoning π that is SO not fun. I got it right after I had Nia and right when we were traveling down to Florida – bad combo altogether. I just remember feeling like death and I’m sure you know what I mean. Glad you had a low-key weekend and hope everyone is feeling much better now!
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
Brittany, I couldn’t agree more: food poisoning while breastfeeding is the worst. I had a case of it when I was nursing my first child and I was certain it was a burger from one of my favorite food stands in San Francisco. I called them to let them know (thinking, surely, other customers may have reported the incident) and the woman on the phone was insistent that it was NOT their food. Let’s just say I didn’t go back ever again.
Marjorie @APinchOfHealthy says
Oh I am so sorry you all were the sick house this weekend! Hope you all feel better soon!
We celebrate with an Irish meal…this time it was Irish potato leek soup. And bonus – I was able to make a blog post recipe out of it. It’s always good when you can squeeze blog content out of real life, amiright?! π
Julia @ LordStillLovesMe says
Iβm praying Hailey feels better soon! Sick kiddos are never fun, and I hope it doesnβt transfer to anyone else in the family. That picture of Kaitlyn melted my heart.
I agree about Big Hero 6! I absolutely loved it, but I wish it as not centered around such a tragic story. Then again, maybe I would not have been as emotionally invested if it were on a lighter topic.
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
I want to watch Big Hero Six! It looks cute!
I went to a St. Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday and it was a lot of fun!
Amy @ Elephant Eats says
Awww, glad you guys are on the mend. And what a wonderful 10 month old present to mama, indeed!!! I’m super jealous (being that my 6 month old wakes a ton during the night still)…so I’m praying maybe there’s hope yet in a few months π And that pic of Hailey cuddling with Kaitlyn on the porch is beyond adorable!
Kat @ Where the Sidewalk Ends says
I’m so so sorry you were sick – what a bummer! I can’t imagine how awful it would be to be sick with two little kiddos, but it does sound like you got through it like a champ. I’m nearly 39 weeks pregnant(!!) and dehydration is evil – I find it so, so hard to drink enough, but when I don’t, I feel it a la BH contractions. NOT fun.
Christina says
I’m glad you are feeling better! I had a stomach bug over Valentine’s Day weekend, and at one point I think I said to my husband “I don’t think I’m going to make it.” Hahahahah. It was the worst! I felt so miserable I couldn’t even focus on the TV
Emily says
So sorry you were sick! Feel better soon.
Just curious though… Can’t your husband cook and shop too? Modern times and all…
