As I was chowing down on a peanut, banana and honey (S)ara(h) bar this morning (my favorite!), it got me thinking about how much I love peanut butter…
Please don’t laugh at my morning hair.
It led me to think about Justin’s and how I really do love their honey almond butter too…and their hazelnut butter!
So many nut butter options!!! (Although now I can’t say nut butter without giggling… thanks Hubbs for ruining that word for me).
But which type of nut butter (::giggle giggle::) is best for you? I didn’t know…
So I did a little research and here’s what I found…
*info for basic butters (no particular brand)
Peanut Butter | Almond Butter | Hazelnut Butter | |
1 Tbsp | 1 Tbsp | 1 Tbsp | |
calories | 94 | 101 | 90 |
total fat | 8 g | 9.5 g | 8.5 g |

some other interesting notes:
- Almonds are the most alkaline nut- others fall into the acidic group(if you’re into alkaline foods vs acidic)
- Many more people have peanut allergies than almond allergies
- Peanuts have more B-vitamins than almonds
- Almonds have more mineral content (iron, calcium, etc) than peanuts
Brittany’s final thoughts…
They’re both pretty darn good for you, so enjoy them both! Personally, in butter form, I prefer the peanut, but when reaching for a handful, I’ll go for the almond. A win-win, no nut left behind solution!
Do you prefer almonds or peanuts?
oh yeah, I forgot to brag about the 4 MILES I ran yesterday. You know, no biggie 😉
Samantha @ Health, Happiness & Skinny Jeans says
Great job with the 4 miles!! Don’t you just love it when you exceed your own expectations?!
CaSaundra says
I’ve never tried hazelnut butter–interesting to see the differences between the butters though–thanks for sharing! 🙂

Great job running 4 miles!! I’ve never had hazelnut butter but I bet it’s delish! 🙂
Paige @ The Gravy Boat says
Congrats on the run! It’s so miserably cold here right now that I can’t seem to get motivated to get out… :-/
I’m typically a fan of peanut butter over almond…I used to really like almond butter, but I think my body is a bit sensitive to it, so now I avoid the almonds. Oh well!
Lisa @ I'm an Okie says
Almond butter FTW!
I’ll never turn down peanut butter though.
Christina @ Food.Fun.Fabulous. says
I really have a hard time deciding but I think I agree with you – peanut for the butter, almond for the handful. I like to switch it up sometimes though 🙂 Never had hazelnut butter before either!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
In a chocolate form…dark chocolate + almonds makes a “bettah buttah”…although Nutella…yum! With honey? Truly, either almonds OR peanuts…although there is something about honey + PB…
While the Vanilla Cranberry PB from Target is CRAZY addicting…I don’t think I really have a favorite.
Gosh, because I love sunflower seed butter too!
I find PB sweetest, with almond, then sunflower behind, so I think it is based on my taste desires at the moment.
Perhaps this confliction is why I just made up Nutty Butter which has all of my favorites (including cashews and hazelnuts) all together…:)
Maria @ Oh Healthy Day says
4 miles is such a huge accomplishment! Good for you!
I prefer peanuts to almonds any day! Butter or nuts! You know, unless the almonds are covered in chocolate 🙂
Alexa @ The Girl In Chucks says
I’m with you…peanut for butter, almonds for snacking.
BUT…I do like Barney (Almond) Butter on graham crackers more than peanut butter. It’s the one exception.

Good job on your four miles! I’m the same way with nut butters. I usually have two jars open at all times and don’t discriminate. I like variety! 🙂

I agree with you. I go with peanut butter, but a handful of almonds, but I eat both (of both). I would like to try some of the others though–sunflower butter in particular. Ooooh, I bet pistachio butter would be good too! Maybe I’ll try making my own, since I’ve never seen that at the grocery.
Corey @ the runner's cookie says
Nut butters are so delicious – I usually have peanut butter and almond butter in my fridge, they’re different but I think I like both equally! I think I should branch out though and try some other fun ones (if I can find some not-horribly-expensive jars, that is!)
Holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
Your morning hair sure looks better than mine 🙂
I prefer peanuts over almonds — unless they are cocoa roasted almonds 🙂
Melissa says
I agree with you. I prefer eating almonds, but I like peanut butter better (I better watch out – I’m at the brink of a tongue twister I fear). I also like sun butter.
