But first…
What caused this?
Oh, that’s right, I ran FOUR MILES yesterday!
I thought I’d switch things up a bit, and for the first time ever I decided to run for miles, not minutes.
I know the 4 miles route in the neighborhood and was feeling ambitious, so I just went for it! I told myself I could go as slow as I needed to, although I know I sped up towards the end. I guess I get excited and want to push myself?
Anyways, at the end I felt whipped…
…and fell into the grass to put my feet up.
My little running buddy was worried and came to check on me…
I was tired, yes. But I still felt AWESOME.
I didn’t really time myself exactly, but I checked the clock before I left and right when I got back, and I think it took me about 45 minutes. So yes, I went slow… but I did it!!

Now onto soup. Cold, rainy days require soup in my opinion, so I tried a new one out. It didn’t take long to discover that this would be the perfect sick-soup, but if you aren’t sick, it’s just kind of bland…
It’s simple though!
2 leeks… chopped.
Throw into a dutch oven with a little olive oil and saute until soft.
Throw in 1/2 tsp of dried sage.
And saute for another minute. Then add in 2 cans of chicken broth.
And 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil. Meanwhile open and rinse 1 can of Cannellini beans. Then…. cheat and buy a rotisserie chicken (about 1.5-2 lbs)
Peel off the skin and pull off all the meat. Either shred or pull apart into bite size pieces and throw all of it into the pot… while reducing it to a simmer.
5 minutes later, when everything is heated through, serve it up!
I served it with some whole grain bread and olive oil for dipping!
Warm and comforting… but pretty flavorless. Great sick soup! 🙂
What’s your favorite sick soup?
Mine is hot and sour soup! mmm!

Good job on the four miles!
and personally–I like running slow better. Less pressure.

Veggie, veggie, veggie-filled broth…that or beef stew. [So…complete opposites…except that they are both probably not super great for your tummy. :)]

4 miles is awesome!! Good for you! You’ll be running a 10K in no time 😉
I absolutely love chicken soup and did not it could be that easy.

4 miles? Man, you’re sure making me feel like a loser for choosing Cardio Kick instead of running again this morning! 😉
It’s been a long time since I’ve had soup when I was sick. It’s something I used to do when I lived with my mom…she used to make it for me….but that was 8 or 9 years ago. As horrible as it is, I usually wind up at a restaurant for take out. One block over from me, there are literally 11 restaurants….within a 3 block radius there are at least another 10-15. My neighborhood is cool like that. So, when I’m sick and usually feel so pathetic I can’t stand for more than 5 minutes at a time, I usually throw on an oversized hoodie and hobble down and get someone else’s cooking. Not particularly healthy, but neither am I!

I’m a BIG fan of potato soup. It’s not calorie friendly but amazingly yummy! It’s a special treat for sure!

Yay for feeling accomplished after a run! Great feeling.
I really love soup and need to make my own soon! It’s so comforting. Last night I posted about how pizza, my mom’s Italian cooking, and warm bread comforts me…carbs much? 🙂

Way to go! I can’t wait to feel that feeling of accomplishment. My goal is to run 5 miles someday. 🙂

Chicken soup is my favorite sick soup. That looks good, and easy, which is always nice. Good job on the four miles! I remember being in the opposite situation with miles versus minutes. I had been in the habit of running a certain number of miles, then I started a training program that set out how many minutes I should run. If it said 30 minutes, I would run 3 miles and not think about it. I finally realized I wasn’t exactly following the program and went to running by time. P.S. I’ve been reading for a while, but this is my first comment, so hello!

When I first read this I though ‘sick’ soup doesn’t sound very appetising 😛 But I like yours 🙂 My favourite is sort of a soup, my mum makes it when I’m ill. It’s a Chinese porridge (a ‘congee’) and it’s stewed rice with lots of different types of pulses and nuts, and it’s really soothing on the stomach and good for hydration. I recommend you look up congee, I hope you will try it some day!
