Yesterday we celebrated Hailey’s 1 week birthday!
It’s been an amazing week and she is doing wonderfully. We had a follow up appointment at the lactation consultant and they confirmed that she’s a great eater. They want babies to be back at birth weight by 10 days old. Well our little peanut weighed 7 lbs 1 ounce at birth, left the hospital at 6 lb 11 ounces and is now up to 7 lbs 8.6 ounces! I knew those cute cheeks were filling out 😉
Hailey is a great baby so far. She is letting me sleep from 10:15pm-2:15am and again from 3:00am-7:15am. It’s much more sleep than I was ever expecting! (She stayed in this position as I began unswaddling her- so stinkin’ cute!)
Ok, ok, enough bragging on baby- let’s get to the dirt.
Hailey’s 1 week birthday meant 1 week post partum for me, and I was interested in seeing what my body had done. Here’s the info.
A couple days before I was induced I took my weight and measurements. We all remember what I looked like:
And here’s what I look like 1 week post partum.
Although it was tempting, I didn’t allow myself to suck in 😉
First off, someone remind me to stand up straight- posture, Brittany, posture!
And secondly, here’s the numbers:
Before Delivery | 1 Week Post Partum | Difference | |
Right Arm | 10.75” | 10” | -.75” |
High Waist | 33.5” | 31.5” | -2” |
Around Belly | 42.5” | 36.5” | -6” |
Hips | 41” | 39.5” | -1.5” |
Right Thigh | 23.5” | 22.5” | -1” |
Right Calf | 13.75” | 13” | -.75” |
Weight | 143.5 lbs | 125.5 lbs | -18 lbs |
I’m really pleased with the progress! I haven’t done any exercise, as my body is still healing. I’m walking around easily and am fine going up and down stairs, but no walks yet.
Plus, I’ve been eating well… like reallllly well, thanks to mom!
I debated how much to share of the numbers, but in the end I decided it’s my blog and I’ll blog what I want. 😉
You shared my journey as I got bigger, and I want to share with you still as I get back to my fighting weight. PLUS, let’s be honest, I’m hoping you can help hold me accountable.
From here on out I plan on doing monthly progress updates…
Are these something you are interested in reading?
or TMI?
Sam says
I think this is a great topic, not TMI at all! Like you said, it’s your blog. I’m sure lots of expecting mothers would find it helpful to have stuff like this to look at and maybe will feel more prepared! Of course everyone is different, but i think it is fine 🙂 quite interesting actually!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Happy 1 week to sweet little Hailey! I don’t have kids but from what I hear from all our friends, that sounds like a good chunk of sleep! Lucky mama 🙂
Definitely not TMI, I love reading these kind of progress updates!
Aunt Pat says
You’re both looking great.
Nana must be taking great care of you : )
Brittney says
I’m interested! Glad you had a great first week! She’s so cute!!
Joy J says
Great post! Hailey is so adorable!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
I don’t really think this is TMI…we’ve been with you through everything else, so being real about your “comeback” is A-OK I should imagine. 🙂
Besides, now I’ll have a model of who to follow if/when/maybe/perhaps I someday am in the same situation.
PS- I think you and Hailey are both looking fabulous!
Brooke @ Veggie Table says
She is such a doll!!! Happy 1 week birthday to Hailey!
I don’t think it’s too much info…I’ll definitely read!
Ashley Potz says
Yes girl, keep the post baby bod updates coming! I want to know how you do it when it comes time for me to have a baby and lose the weight. Congrats on your beautiful daughter and great progress after one week!
Dorothy says
Love the post-baby body recap! Though I haven’t been through pregnance, I’m getting back into fitness after too long being off, so I’d love to read about the fitness ventures you’re able to accomplish as you get used to your new body.
blackhuff says
I am always happy to read, when someone say that they want to blog about this stuff, to stay accountable. It is so so good when I hear people say this because of how true it is. When one blog, in honesty like you do, then staying accountable is much easier. Well done.
I love the pictures you post of your little one. It is so cute.
Your mom makes such delicious looking (and healthy too) food. Compliments to the chef for taking such good care of you all.
Samantha @ Health, Happiness & Skinny Jeans says
I love the recaps! Its great to see how you and the baby are doing 🙂
Caitlin says
I don’t think its TMI, I think it is interesting! I have never been pregnant but I am amazed that you lost 18lbs in one week, that is awesome!
Karen says
I would totally love to see how you are doing with your monthly progress. I am due January 1st (even though I have a family the little nug might come earlier) and already have plans for post baby body. Good luck with everything, you look amazing & Hailey is adorable!
Angie says
I’d love to see your progress. As a mother of 2 I know how hard it is to get back to being comfortable. Adorable baby! Keep up the great work, you’ll get there.
Alex @ The Plum Foodie says
Not TMI at all. It’s exactly what I’m interested in reading. It took me WAY too long to get my butt into shape after having my almost 3-year-old daughter. I’m so truly impressed with how well you ate and stuck to your fitness routine throughout your pregnancy and are continuing to fuel your body correctly and beneficially now. You’re so inspirational and I look forward to reading back at these posts for the next time we plan on having another one – which won’t be too far from now 🙂 Thanks!!
Cait @ beyond bananas says
I totally like these Posts and love how your body is recovering so shortly after giving birth! I look forward to following you on this journey!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well. says
Thanks for being so honest!! I’m excited to see your journey through this as well. And you’re right, it’s your blog, do what you want!!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well. says
By the way: your mom’s food looks AMAZING!!!!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I don’t think this is TMI at all! Honestly none of my closer friends have had babies so it has been interesting to see you progress through your pregnancy.
The food your mom made looks incredible!!! She can cook for me anytime 🙂
Katie @ Legally Fit says
Happy one week to Hailey! She sounds like such a sweet little baby. I hope Baby A lets us sleep as much! 🙂 I can’t get over how cute she is.
You already look so phenomenal one week post partum! Definitely not TMI. You’ve inspired me to take my measurements at some point within the next 4ish weeks in order to have a more accurate picture for myself. 😀
Are you going to use the belly bandit or anything like that? I’m tempted- I’ve heard great things but it also seems like it could be a waste of money.
Shari says
Happy one week birthday to Hailey!! She is so dear 🙂
Shannon says
Love the updates. Your blog is all about a healthy lifestyle, no matter what your lifestyle may be! I think your approach to being healthy is helpful for anyone, and I know seeing pictures of Hailey gives me a smile every morning!
Jen says
First of all, Hailey is a doll! And how wonderful she’s nursing and sleeping so well. You must be such a proud mama 🙂
Second, you look awesome! I had no idea pregnancy weight came off that quickly (or maybe you’re just amazing!). I’m so interested to follow along with your progress so I have an idea what to expect in 12ish more weeks.
Whitney says
I’d love to see the progression of getting your pre-baby body back.
Little Hailey is precious and doesn’t help my baby fever any!! 🙂
Kathryn says
I appreciate your openness about the topic. I’ve never had children so I wouldn’t know what to expect in terms of getting your pre-baby body back! Very informative!
Stephanie says
Love the baby pics 🙂 she is sooo sweet, and I love all the faces she makes☺! I am looking forward to reading any and all the info you care to share with us. I am 10 wks preggo with my third and hoping to follow much of your past blogs as I do not want to gain too much weight. I gained 65 with my first, and about 40 with my second, and really want to keep things under control with this one. Reading your blogs help me stay motivated, Thank you !
Anastasia says
She is so stinkin’ cute! I really love to see your progress and how it is after having a baby. You always hear so much about preparing for baby, labor/birth but not much after that.. especially how your body changes and is afterwards.
I think you look awesome and you’ll be back to your old bod in no time. Also, that’s great she’s letting you sleep so much!
Lauren says
Not TMI at all! I can’t imagine how weird it would be to step on the scale and see that you’re 18 lighter, ha ha! You and the little one both look great!
Paulina says
Not TMI at all, I find it really interesting. It seems natural to share the details with us if you’re comfortable, since you’ve shared lots of other pregnancy details all along. Holy cow, 18 pounds in 1 week! And 4 hour blocks of sleep! I’m crossing my fingers that my baby is a sound sleeper too 🙂 It must have been so amazing to sleep (even for a few hours) without a big, uncomfortable baby bump to get in the way. I’m due in 8 days and can not imagine being so much smaller in such a short period of time.
Meaghen says
I recently found your blog a few days before you gave birth and have never commented before. Congratulations by the way! I am currently 17 weeks pregnant and find your 1 week post-partum update incredibly interesting and not TMI at all. I think there is far too much negativity surrounding people trying to lose weight in the Healthy Living Community. I know my body is going to do some amazing things in the next 20-23 weeks and it will do some *interesting* things after birth and I for one am really interested in how your body will react and change. I appreciate your candid report and will look forward to future updates. Good luck!
christina says
Hailey is so cute! You look great…and yes, you are eating well. Impressive! I don’t think it’s TMI at all. Very interesting actually 🙂
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
NO.. I’m nowhere near giving birth, but I love reading about this stuff! It’s so interesting to me. 🙂
Hailey, as always, is cute. Maybe I need to make a “no-more-cute-comments” rule for myself, because I’m starting to feel a tad redundant. Or do you love it? 😉
Brittany says
Yes, please stop telling me my child is cute… how annoying…
Yeah RIGHT!!! 😉 I tell her every comment she gets. Poor little girl is going to have quite the ego!
Beth says
I’m actually really glad you’re doing this….and being totally honest about it. I am 8 months preggo right now and this is helpful stuff!
Jen says
First of all – you look great! I just found your blog a few weeks ago and I love it! I’m 32 weeks preggo so I’m totally interested in your experiences. The more info, the better! Haily is adorable and I can’t wait to hear your birth story. You’re still doing one, right?
Brittany says
Absolutely! I’ve actually written most of it- but it’s looooong, so I need to go back, do some editing and split it into more than 1 post. The first part will come next week.
And congrats to you- not much longer!! 🙂
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
I just want to hug her. She is so beautiful! You look wonderful. I’d love to see your progress. I think a lot of women who are in your shoes would like to see it too, and it might help me for the future. 🙂
Kelly says
I’m curious to know how tall you are? Just to give a little perspective on your numbers. My baby is 9 and I’m still trying to lose the last few pounds… Haily is beautiful!
Brittany says
I’m a shorty- 5’1″ 🙂
Mandy says
Adorable pictures. Makes me really want another little girl. I can’t believe she is sleeping so well. It took Madison a couple months to get the sleeping thing down (not really her fault since she came almost a month early). And wow you are rocking with the postpartum body. I think it took me a couple months to lose 18 lbs. You will be amazed how quick you will get it back. Thanks for sharing.
Linda says
Congratulations!! Your baby girl is a beauty. You’ll be amazed at how your body will continue to go back to normal over the next year. Breast feeding has done it all for me. I have a 9 1/2 month old baby girl and weigh 10 pounds less than I did pre-pregnancy thanks to breastfeeding. I’m so busy with work and baby that I only have a chance to walk for exercise on the weekends. All the other weight loss has been due to breastfeeding and just healthy eating – not dieting. Enjoy being a mom to your baby girl….it is such a blessing!!!
Haleigh says
Congratulations on the new addition to your family. She’s so sweet! I think it’s the name… hehe.
I don’t think it’s TMI at all. I’m definitely interested in reading about your post-baby weight loss journey. For future reference.. 🙂
Tanya @ Vegan Faith says
I am excited to help hold you accountable! And maybe even go wogging someday! You look great already!
Kristen @ The Concrete Runner says
I’m definitely an interested mama here! I love Body After Baby stuff – I think it shows that it CAN be done!
R @ Learning As I Chop says
Congrats on the weight loss! How much did you gain total? I would love advice on shedding the baby weight s
Brittany says
I gained about 30 lbs total. I got up to 31, then dropped down to 29, so hovered around 30 overall 🙂
Melissa says
I also found your blog a week before you gave birth and am really enjoying reading it. I found your body update very interesting andcwoild def enjoy more updates. I have a six month old and can relate do much
Hotpotatokate says
I’m addicted to the cuteness of your baby!!
Kate says
You look great Brittany!! I’m not far ahead of you in the scheme of things. My baby boy, Charlie, will be three weeks old this Sunday.
JenRD says
Great pics! I delivered a few days before you, and also (unexpectedly) lost 18 lbs the first week.
Out of curiosity, how did you get your little one on such a good eat/sleep schedule already? Our little one has no consistent sleep & wake times yet. Any tips?
Jen
Brittany says
I wish I had tips, but I’m just learning day by day. I actually credit Hailey for being such a good eater, which I think helps with sleep. She eats about every 3 hours during the day, and at night is able to give us 4-5 stretches. I have never woken her up to feed her, against doctor recommendations, but she had already surpassed her birth weight so I’m not concerned about it. My lactation consultant said babies eat based on total caloric intake, so if she eats a bit more during the day, she’ll most likely go longer at night. So far, she is right!
If I discover any tips, I’ll share, but I’m still figuring it all out 🙂 It did help us out that when feeding at night, it’s down to business- no playing. We change, feed, sometimes change again and back to bed. All with the lights off or dim and I don’t talk to her. It seems to work.
Good luck! 🙂
JenRD says
Thanks! You are right, it is trial and error. We do the same at night, keeping things low-key. Our Ped said we should wake her to feed every 2-3 hrs during the day, and can let her sleep at night, now that she surpassed her birth weight. He also suggested we give her a bottle at night of 2-4 oz (expressed breast milk) so daddy can participate, and she might sleep a bit longer afte that. Sometimes it works. Good luck to you!
Jen

Love the info — gives me hope for when I’m post partum in 6 months!
Corey says
So glad to hear you and little Hailey are doing so well!! She looks incredibly precious!
8 hours certainly sounds pretty good to me for a newborn! I hope she keeps up that schedule and lets you get your much needed rest 🙂 Have a great weekend, Brittany!
Roz says
Hi Brittany, I don’t think it’s tmi at ALL! And you look fantastic!! Happy one week birthday Hailey!
Victoria says
I don’t think it’s TMI at all – both Hailey and you look great! Was most of your weight loss from giving birth to Hailey, or have you just been super-awesome with getting into your post-pregnancy dietary groove?
Brittany says
I credit it to giving birth and breastfeeding. I haven’t been able to exercise at all yet, and though I am eating healthy food, I am not counting calories or nutrients- just eating when I’m hungry and making sure it’s healthy… with a few lactation cookies thrown in for good measure. I think the next 12 pounds will be the challenging part… stay tuned! 😉
Brittany @ LessBritt MoreLife says
Happy 1 week birthday! she’s beautiful! And you’re looking great!
Katie @ Healthy Heddleston says
Not TMI at all — I love the body after baby post — I’ll be doing them after I have my little one.
Happy 1 week birthday to Hailey!!
Maria@healthydiaries says
I don’t think it’s TMI at all, that’s are what blogs are for after all! Your looking great btw! Happy 1 week to Hailey!! She’s too cute, for real!!
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
Isn’t it amazing the progress in just one week? Our bodies know what they are doing. And I really believe that getting started sooner rather than later with caring for our bodies makes a big difference in keeping the body going. I’m not saying right, right away…but I think starting up with exercise and watching food by 2 months pp makes a HUGE difference in momentum. At least from my experience and what I have heard from many others. I have no doubt you will have post baby body progress. 🙂
Jess @atasteofconfidence says
You look great!
kristin point says
Hailey is beautiful! I love the name and I think you look great! I’m deff interested to see the post baby bod- I need to know what I’m in for in 24 weeks haha
Shayla @ The Good Life says
Brittany you look awesome 1 week postpartum! Its not too TMI at all and I would definitely be interested in reading progress updates and how you’re going about it. I know we’re all different but learning about one another’s experience in this is truly useful and I think us readers would learn a lot from your experience. I would really appreciate it as well since we’re TTC and I’d love to reference back to this when its my turn to get my post baby body back 🙂
Congrats again and you’re lil girl is absolutely perfect and so precious! 🙂
Maria says
Oh she’s so adorable. Please post multiple pics of her every day.
You look awesome and I’m enjoying catching up on all your posts!
Erica says
Not TMI at all! These posts are really interesting. I’m 14 weeks pregnant and just starting to show, so I’ve been visiting every “pregnant running” blog and comparing my bump to others. Very rarely does one see post-baby bodies, and you look amazing! It’s crazy to think you lost over 18 pounds in a week!
Your daughter is beautiful and looks so happy and healthy!
Bethany says
I appreciate your honesty in letting people know it takes time and effort to get your body back to normal. Great post, I think you should keep this up! It’s encouraging!
Susan @ Real Life Travels says
Oh good at least I’m not the only one with bad posture 🙂 .. been trying to work on it, it must of been from our big ole bellies! You look great and I have a feeling the weight is going to fly off of you!
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
totally interested!!
Sophie @ LoveLiveAndLearn says
She is so beautiful! I’ll always be up for seeing photos of her 🙂
And it’s not TMI, I love reading baby progress posts!
Diane says
I love reading post baby blogs, and thanks for the honest numbers and pictures. I have had two babies (one is now 4 and one is 13 months), and both times I lost a lot the couple of weeks, but it was hard work after that! I recommend lots and lots of planks once your abs are ready. I’m glad I found your blog, the food looks so yummy!
Christie says
I think it is great that you’re sharing this info with your readers- it’s real!
I think a lot of women worry about the post-baby time (getting their bodies back to ‘normal’) but it is a beautiful transition and isn’t nearly as bad as many think.
I stopped blogging post-baby for a few months due to some family health issues, but wish I had chronicled my post-baby bod. You’ll be so glad you did!
Ashley M. [at] (never home)maker says
You look gorgeous. And I can’t wait to follow your journey post-baby!
Amy @ {Life to the Full} says
That’s definitely not TMI! I’m a new reader to your blog and I’ll have to go through each of these posts. I’m a new mom, now 2 months postpartum, and have no idea what to expect as far as my body returning to “normal”. (What exactly IS normal after having a baby?!)
