Hailey is at a transition age between needing a nap and not. It really depends on the day, but lately she’s been going without sleeping in the afternoon (usually she still has quiet solo time). Yesterday I almost convinced myself that afternoon snoozes were a thing of the past, but maybe I spoke too soon.
Breakfast yesterday was of the simple variety- a banana and large scoop of almond butter. I had to be at the allergist by 8 so that this could happen:
I may be in the minority here, but I love simple tests like this that can reveal information about your health/body. My predictions were confirmed- spring grasses are pretty much trying to kill me (I’ll spare you the pictures), as are cats. I’m slightly allergic to dogs too, but choosing to ignore that one.
After my appointment, I moved right along to Kaitlyn’s doctor appointment. I was still itchy, so I appreciated her filling out her own paperwork.
In a moment of hunger-induced weakness, I snagged this teriyaki salmon bowl for lunch, which was delicious, but a bit steep in price at $10.99.
We rushed home, where I made the girls smoothies for lunch and contemplated nap time. Kaitlyn had fallen asleep in the car and those 15 minutes had messed with her schedule, so we just blew through nap in favor of hitting up the library.
Kaitlyn had a blow out on the way and true to second-child status, I did not have a cute back up outfit, so unisex onesie it was. We played for a bit and picked out some DVDs and books with CDs (I still LOVE these things).
I tried chatting with my mom as we headed home, but the tantrum brewing in the backseat shut that down pretty fast. Hailey’s discontent grew and her eyes just got crazy as she flailed in her car seat screaming something about I WANT!. At home I finally was able to do what I always pictured- I sent her to her room! I guess we are at that age now. She continued to have a fit for about 2 minutes once reaching her room, then… silence. She passed right out without books, blankets or being tucked in. I guess we aren’t ready to completely forego naps yet.
She wasn’t the only tired one though.
This. Never. Happens. She went from nursing to passed out in about 2 minutes too, then was out cold. I loved it. I snapped a few pictures and videoed her soft snoring, then just sat there and smiled at her in a way that I’m sure would have scared the heck out of her if she woke up and saw me.
I savored the sweet because after about 30 minutes, it was back to chaos.
I sipped a beer which really helped make packing for 3 of us plus a dog tolerable.
I snacked on chips and salsa while I gathered everyone’s beachy things.
I made David this buffalo chicken sandwich, but was already full myself. I guess eating chips, kids’ leftovers, sweet potato fries, half a pint of cherry tomatoes and beer will do that to you!
The girls, Koda and I leave for the beach today! I’m excited, especially since I somehow managed to make it to the early bootcamp class this morning, so I’m revved and ready to go! But with spotty naps and a solo drive ahead, I’ll still take any luck you want to send my way π
BEACH TIME!
What’s the most beautiful beach you’ve ever been to?

David’s chicken sandwich looks delicious! The most beautiful beaches I’ve been to are in Hawaii. Take me back!

Have a blast!!!! I don’t have any beer in the fridge right now, and I really need to change that situation. I’ve got plenty of wine, but that requires a time commitment (as I refuse to have one glass, always two)….

“…sat there and smiled at her in a way that Iβm sure would have scared the heck out of her if she woke up and saw me.” This made me LOL! I’m pretty sure I’ll be the same way though π
And Turks and Caicos and its beaches are amazing – powdery sand, crystal clear blue water…I wanna go back!

Have fun! I like your style. You look great btw : ) Does K always take off her shoes? Mine does that too & it drives me crazy.

We were at a resort in Cozumel last year as an excursion to a cruise, and it was gorgeous. Crystal blue water, white sands, fruity drinks, and the best tacos and guacamole I’ve ever had.
And I remember as a kid, my mom would send my sister and I to our rooms. I never napped, but I just kind of played. To this day, I really only nap if I’m tired (And I was TIRED this past weekend).

That chicken sandwich looks great. I think we all need naps now and again π

baby snuggles are the best. My little guy sleeps in his crib so any time he wants to snuggle or sleep with me I savor the moment.

Ouch on the allergy testing! I’ve had that done twice- no fun! I even did shots for over a year, which I felt did not help. I take Zyrtec and Flonase every day and I am okay for the most part! Hope you find something that works for you! Allergies are the worst! Have fun on your beach trip!

A couple of things: I love that you and Kaitlyn matched before her blowout–good thing you at least had a onesie with you even if not a cute outfit! Also, I love that almond butter! Despite the price, it’s the only one I buy. So good! Naps are so tricky when they’re in transition mode. My 5-year-old still takes naps sometimes, but mostly only at preschool. At home he has quiet time and pretty much never falls asleep. Love those rare sweet moments when our big babies fall asleep on us!

That kind-of-need-a-nap stage is tough. My almost 2 year old has no problem napping for almost an hour at daycare, but come the the weekend and he doesn’t want to miss anything. We get by with strategically planned car and stroller rides. Otherwise, we all get cranky π
The prettiest beach I’ve been to would probably be in Mexico because the water was so turquoise! Around here, I thought the beach in Cape May, NJ was pretty nice. I’m used to the long, more narrow shores of the RI beaches, so being on the tip of NJ, with water all around was pretty neat.

I am a total beach babe. I grew up vacationing in the Outer Banks and always dreamed of living at the beach, I was married on the beach in Jamaica so that always will hold a special place in my heart. However, my husband heard my pleas for beach life and moved me to coastal northern California last year. I can say that the beaches here are perfection!!!

God help us all through these nap transitions. We have been working through the nap/no nap phase for A YEAR! I’ll admit it’s a sweet spot to be in when both my kiddos decide to conk out at the same time…until bedtime rolls around and my three year old is wired until at least 9pm. Not. Fun.

I liiivee for the rare moment that my son falls asleep on me. It’s pretty much never. I’m dreading my son going from two naps to one, I can’t imagine the day he has none! oh gosh. good luck on your ride and enjoy the beach!
Erin says
Good luck with the allergies! I’ve always had year-round allergies and I’m just finishing up my allergy shots after this season – I did about 6 years. They’ve totally helped me. I only need one small regular Zyrtec in the morning and some nasal spray and I feel fine – I even feel fine if I forget one day. Allergy shots are a huge time commitment, but worth it.

My son who is 6 fell asleep on me like that last week! I soaked up every minute of it including moving to the sofa and Zonking out with him leaving his 54 pound self on my chest. Yes he was heavy but my baby is growing fast and I will take all those moments I can get!! I have two children ages 4 1/2 and 6 and they both still take naps any time we are home during the day usually close to 2 hours. If they ever decide to forgo the nap they will have quiet time.
The most beautiful beach I have ever been to would be the Bahamas. Other than that the only beaches I have been to are here in South Georgia, Hilton head, and Florida. Clearwater fl was the most beautiful here in the states!
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me says
When I was Haileyβs age, I NEVER napped. I certainly am making up for it nowadays. π I am like you with dogs! I am slightly allergic to cats but my kitty is currently on my lap. I have a theory that you can become immune to your own pet.
The most beautiful beach I have been to was Northshore in Hawaii. I recommend it highly!

Oh I’m envious that your three year old still naps. My two year old was done with his naps by the time he had turned two. My 7 month naps for a total of 1 hour per day split in two naps! Thankfully they go to bed at 7 PM on the dot but are more than enthusiastic to wake up 5:45-6:00 AM every morning. Hilarious story about the blowout. At least you had that unisex onesie……my 7 month old took a 45 minute car ride home the other day naked because, in addition to me forgetting clothes, I also forgot extra diapers. Have fun at the beach!!!
