Can you feel it? I can. Sure, it’s still 97 degrees out on most days, but when I wake up in the mornings, the sun is taking longer to come up. My facebook feed is bursting with cute kids dressed up on their first day of school. And at Michael’s, the pumpkins, ghosts and ‘gobble til you wobble’ signs are aplenty. Yup, our summer days are numbered.
Fall is certainly my favorite season, but I’m not quite ready to wish summer away yet. It’s been a really great one and now that August is upon us, I’m trying to squeeze in all the summer fun I can. A few things we’ve been enjoying…
Impromptu breakfast dates and sitting outside. Yesterday I was just itching to switch things up, so as soon as we threw on clothes, it was off the the bagel shop! The morning was cool enough to sit outside where the girls could run around and sing between bagel bites.
Park play. We’ve been quite the park hoppers this year and I’ve realized just how fortunate we are to have so many great options close by.
And when it’s too hot, splash pad fun. Last summer it was tough to hit these up with Kaitlyn being so little, but this summer the girls can fill buckets together. Hailey even braved WALKING THROUGH THE MIDDLE of the fountains by herself. It may not sound like much, but that’s big news around here.
We’ve been exploring nature through hikes and little walks around the house. There are no shortage of crazy bugs and both mine and Hailey’s eyes nearly popped out of our head when we saw this guy.
Don’t let the picture fool you; he was about 5 inches long! We googled him when we got back home and decided he must be a luna moth caterpillar. Here is a great visual caterpillar identification guide if you are in need. It was fun to have Hailey pick out which one she thought he was.
Of course some days it is just too darn hot, so we’ve been doing inside activities as well. We hit up the clearance section of Michael’s in search of fun things to paint.
Can I also mention how much I love the lack of layers during summer? I love letting Kaitlyn just chill in a diaper and for Hailey, it’s a one piece dress thrown over her head and DONE. I don’t look forward to piling on socks and undershirts.
Of course we’ve had to hit up another staple and let Hailey doctor her’s up however she sees fit.
Chocolate on chocolate? I’m so surprised.
I’ve been enjoying salad and salad before soups sneak in and take over.
And overall we’ve just been packing our days full however we can.
It’s been a really great summer and we aren’t ready to send it on its way just yet!
What summer activities have you been loving?
Is there anything else you want to (or I should?) sneak in before summer fades away?

Summer fun: golf, biking, boating (including cocktail runs to Gaby’s!) Can do it all in sweet summer!

Sounds like a fun summer! I’ve been enjoying seasonal produce, the water park, and parks. Oh, and Etgan & I try to find a pool whenever possible!

Oh gosh, I’ve already forgotten about the LAYERS!! I’m not ready for that. My three year old coined the phrase ‘easy cotton dress’ and that’s what her and her sister have been living in this summer. Over the head and done. Don’t even get me started on jackets, hats, mittens, etc. Add in a two year old and a three year old who insist on doing everything by themselves…how are we ever going to get out the door this winter?? I love summer!

I associate August as the last month of summer too. I always went back to school in September, so August was all about getting as much fun in as possible.

its all about the kiddie pool and dinners outside these days. Hoping to get in a few bike rides, too!

The photo of Kaitlyn on the playground makes her look so grown up!!!! I’m not sure when your farmers markets are best, but I would do some of that shopping!

This time of year when it starts getting super hot, it’s definitely harder to appreciate summer, but we’re trying our hardest as well in these parts! I love that summer lets me just throw a shirt on Ryan and let him run off. The struggle of pants is real..

Ugh, agreed – I am not looking forward to layers at all, and I have a feeling my daughter will hate them even more than I do considering she hates putting on clothes at all. :p
We’ve been loving water activities, going on walks, going to the zoo, going to the amusement park, and road tripping. We’re going to take the kids to the Renaissance Festival this year, but otherwise I hope to fit in more walks and as much outside time as we can.

You guys have so much fun! Love it!
I want to go to the beach as much as possible before the temp starts dropping…oh and eat a few more bowls of ice cream too!

I’ve been enjoying my afternoon pool sessions when I can get them in, but I am definitely looking forward to sitting outside and NOT sweating… here’s hoping for cooler weather.

I think the whole retail industry needs to stop trying to make everything happen months in advance. I am not ready to see Halloween candy, pumpkin spice candles and such yet – let summer run its natural course as long as possible 🙂

What a fun summer! I agree, I’m not ready to let summer end yet either!

Fall is my favorite season as well! I feel like we are a rarity here, and I am smiling over the fact you love fall. I am glad you are still taking the opportunity to embrace these summer days!
