1. Oldies stations on Sirius Radio. I’ve been rocking out to the 60’s and 70’s lately and really enjoy the happy, sappy music of yesteryear. Plus, I have a weird habit of imagining what what parent’s lives were like when that particular song came out. Were they dancing together to it? Driving in the car with the windows down? File this one under ‘odd things I shouldn’t admit on the blog.’
2. My allergies leaving me alone yesterday. It was gorgeous out yesterday, 70 and sunny, so I risked it by going outside in the afternoon. Thankfully my pesky allergies left me alone long enough to let me enjoy the park with friends and time to teach Hailey how to play softball. Well, I tried. She rounded the bases in reverse.
3. Instagram not existing when I was in high school or college. Can you imagine the stupid things I would have posted? Not that my pictures now are mind blowing, but no one needs to be posting pictures after a few beers at 2:30am. I fear for kids today and what some of them are putting out there.
4. Maternity yoga pants. Have I mentioned I still wear mine weekly? The panel folds down over my hips and they are ridiculously comfortable. I never stopped wearing them after having Hailey and have even considered buying a second pair.
5. The time I get to spend with Hailey. Some days are exhausting, for sure, but some days are pretty special. We took a random trip to TCBY yesterday and devoured some orange sherbet and banana foster yogurt. It was adorable.
She then came home and devoured her broccoli for dinner. Now that really melted my heart
6. Netflix. For allowing me to get sucked into Game of Thrones at a ridiculous speed. I realize it’s the TV equivalent of Dungeons and Dragons and it makes me a HUGE nerd. I’m OK with that.
7. Amazon making mistakes. I preordered Michael Pollan’s new book Cooked and they mistakenly sent me the audio CD instead.
I’m a huge fan of In Defense of Food so I was excited to jump right into Pollan’s latest work. Luckily I live chatted with Amazon and they admitted their mistake and are sending me the book quickly at no extra cost.
So, I thought I’d share it with you guys!
If you want to win the Audio CD of Michael Pollan’s new book, Cooked, just leave a comment saying you do and I’ll pick a winner Monday morning. Have a great weekend!
Kelli says
Amazon has the best customer service hands down can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the book!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
I didn’t know Michael Pollen came out with a new book! If I don’t win the audio book, I’ll defintely be downloading it on my Kindle. Cooked sounds interesting!
And #3 – YES! I am so glad that social media became popular when I was a senior in college and not earlier. I fear for kids these days, especially because the internet never forgets.
Danielle says
I would love to “read” that book on audio! Anything to help commuting with a 2 year old every morning!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
I’d love to win an audio book version, so I could listen to it on long runs. I actually had the library purchase it, and it has come in, but I went on a little bit of a ‘purchase request’ spree recently and now I have 8 books I need to read. And since they are new, and probably on other people’s hold lists, I can’t automatically renew them. I don’t know what to do.

I loved Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food and if I won the audiobook version then it would definitely help break up the monotony on my daily 95 mile roundtrip commute. My husband loves audiobooks as well, maybe I can get him to “read” the book this way? Hmmmm…
Karen says
I would love the audio. I bet it is terrific. Thanks
Kwan says
I would gladly take that CD off of your hands! When I went to a Michael Pollan lecture a few years ago, I found him surprisingly sexy!

Sarah says
I would love it! 🙂

When I miss my parents I definitely find myself listening to the oldies station on the radio. There are always a few songs that take me back to when I was younger and remind me of specific things. As for the CD – I’d be interested in checking it out on my long commute, for sure!
Urban Wife says
Hmmm, now you got me thinking about watching Game of Thrones! 😉
I’d love to have a chance to win this audio book. I’ve been wanting to read his books for forever now and somehow always seem to forget. Thanks for the chance and have a lovely weekend!
Heather says
Love Amazon’s customer service! I would love to read this book, but I think having it in audio form may be the way to go! I have a stack of parenting/sleep books that I just can’t seem to get to with a six month old…
Cathy Wilson says
I would love to win it.
Katie says
My daughter is almost 11 months and I still wear my maternity yoga pants from time to time, too. SO much more comfortable than regular yoga pants 🙂
lauren says
I’d love to win it, I can listen on my commute, lol.
Kimberly says
I would LOVE the audio book. 🙂 Audio books are the only way I catch up reading for pleasure, instead of for school. I have an hour commute one way every morning and afternoon, and I usually listen to audio books…when I can afford them.
Genevieve says
Ooooh! I’d love to win! I have been dying to read his latest and just haven’t gotten around to ordering it yet. I love audio since I can listen while doing chores or gardening. Thanks so much for the chance!
Ali says
I Would like to hear this book on “tape” (hahah – another thing our little ones will never know). I have a long driving trip coming up that could help pass the time, I like reading things recommended by others, I love trying new authors and I enjoy learning new things. This book on cd could accomplish a lot for me!
In other news – why didn’t you call us when you went to tcby!?!?
Crystal says
I would love to win the audiobook. I’m a fan of his work and have really gotten into audio books to help pass time in the car. Thanks for the giveaway!
Adria @ A Spoonful of Healthy says
Hailey is such a cutie-patootie!! Glad your allergies were leaving you alone yesterday. By the way, I’d like to be entered in the contest please.
Maria says
Now I want some maternity yoga pants! They sound heavenly. I’m actually in the market for a new brand of yoga pants – Lulu’s aren’t cutting it anymore. I recently bought a pair from Zobha and really like them, but they aren’t made for my short legs and short torso.
I’ve never had an audio book, but my commute is longer these days, so it certainly would be perfect for that! (Also, I need to tell you about the time I had lunch with Michael Pollen in Berkeley at Chez Pannisse – nicest guy you’ll ever meet! I’m still pinching myself that I got to sit right beside him and talk about food!).
Britt says
I LOVEEE Michael Pollan!! Plus, yesterday was my birthday so I’m feeling lucky 😉
PS – the TCBY pics are so cute!
Brittney says
Ooh, I would love the Michael Pollan CD! I hardly have any time to read, so this would be great!

I would love to win this! I have a long commute and spend hours in my car each day. Audiobooks save my sanity. I share Michael Pollan’s views on health, so I am sure I would enjoy his newest book.

I loved reading in defense of food! Also, agree with you about instagram, twitter and all social media. The things some high schoolers post are going to be seriously regretted.

That is my type of music..love it!!

Ahh I love Hailey pictures! She is so precious. I can’t wait to see what our Addie will look like at that age (not that I’m rushing it … she’s not even 2 weeks right now haha!)!
Kimberly @ Healthy Strides says
I love this list but amen to No. 3. I worry that my cousins don’t realize how accessible all of that stuff is, and coaches, teachers, employers can see the stuff they do. And in their bikinis much less. I wasn’t exciting in high school so I wouldn’t be worried for me.
I’ll also throw my name in the right for the CD.
Emily says
I would love the audiobook!
Jen W. says
I do! And thank you…..
Chrissy says
I have enjoyed Michael pollens previous books, now that I have a newbon, an audiobook is the only way is get to “read” this book.

Those pics of Hailey eating the yogurt are seriously adorable. And your parents were so handsome/beautiful back then (and still are now, of course!)! Have a great weekend!
Regina says
I’d love a good audio book. Now that reading has become nearly impossible since my son thinks everything is food. That includes grocery lists, his toys, the dog leash, the dog herself, our feet, our shoes, oh ya know: EVERYTHING.
Michelle Tomes says
I would love to win! That would be a great 6-hour drive home book!

I still have maternity pants that I wear sometimes too. Why do they make them so darn comfy?!?! I’d be interested to see what Cooked is all about. I honestly don’t even have a clue – that’s how far from the outside world I am right now! haha
Meghan says
Since you keep mentioning your allergies i thought i would jump in and offer you a tip that has helped my husband – pollen. My husband used to have horrible allergies, even when taking medicine. Then he started taking local pollen. He started this 3 years ago and hasn’t had a problem since. You should be able to find it from a local honey provider. We get it at our local farmers market.
KatieTX says
I love Michael Pollan. I have read all his other books. Great to know he came out with a new one. I would totally listen to an audio CD considering I am in the car for at least an hour and a half each day.
