Three days ago Kaitlyn turned 6 months old. Today, she is leaving for college.
That might not be entirely true, but the rate that time goes with a second child is mindboggling. You didn’t think I’d do an update post without professing my bittersweet sentiments about the time passing, right?
And while she may not be leaving for college, moves like this make me feel like she is still growing entirely too quickly.
When this happened yesterday, I was hoping for a singular occurrence, but as I type, the girl is pulling up to standing on any prop she can find.
In other ways though, she is still very much my baby (yes, I know she IS a baby).
She loves putting everything in her mouth and drool-soaked, open-mouthed kisses (which are totally disgusting until it’s your child, then it’s pure magic).
She loves her mama and wants to be everywhere I am. I’ll put her down and just walk around the corner and she’ll burst into tears and army crawl like a crazy baby after me. It’s simultaneously the sweetest and saddest thing I’ve ever seen.
But really, girlfriend wants to be with me all the time. And I won’t pretend I don’t love it.
Her 6 month check up isn’t until Friday, but Kaitlyn is a little thing. I think she is just over 13 lbs, but is still decently long (26 inches – ish). I am nursing her 5 times a day (6:30am, 9:30am, 12pm, 3pm and 6pm – all “ish” of course) and we have started solids!
HA! Despite this particular face, it’s been a lot of messy fun. I am working on a comprehensive post to share our experience thus far.
Let’s see… what else?
She;s gotten better with the bottle and I try to give her one at least every other day.
Her schedule changes daily, but somehow it’s working for us. The only constants are bath starting at 6:30 and in bed asleep by 7:10. She usually naps around 1:15ish, either for 45 minutes or 1.5 hours.
She wakes up at 6:30 most days.
She wear size 2 diapers and 6-9 month clothing.
She’s had a few days of teething symptoms and I sometimes catch her sucking her thumb.
She loves her sister. A lot. They love each other actually and every ounce of my being hopes they’ll stay close.
She is generally a very happy baby, only crying when she is overtired or I’ve confined her to a carseat. She really detests being forced to stay in one place.
She pops up to all fours all the time, but her crawl remains army style (I posted a video on my instagram).
She giggles when you tickle her side or kiss on her neck.
Her laugh sounds somewhat like a ahhhhaghhhh.
She squenches up her whole face when she smiles big.
She makes my heart so full.
Happy half birthday baby girl!!
For fun: Hailey at 6 Months

1. Where did you get those blocks, I need them whenever we have another kid!!
2. I can’t believe she is 6 months!! She is just so beautiful and happy and looks healthy 😀

The blocks were a gift from a friend! I love them. I did a quick search on etsy though and it seems there are a lot of cute ones! –> https://www.etsy.com/search?q=age%20blocks&order=most_relevant&utm_source=google&utm_medium=sem&utm_geo=US&utm_term=%20etsy%20%20blocks_Broad&utm_campaign=RLSA%7CGoogle%7CEtsy%7CToys%7CBMM&utm_ag=RLSA%7CChildren%7CBlock

Love all the pictures and updates. Fun to look back at Hailey at 6 months too. Looking forward to a week with you soon!

She’s so mobile, I can’t believe it! My 6 month (and 12 days) old is a giant chunker, weighing 20.4 lbs at her six month check up! I think this may be one of the reasons she’s not much of a roller or mover. She’s the same way as Kaitlyn, though, in that if she can’t see me, it’s flip out city! She cries if I leave to go to the bathroom, but since she can’t move yet, she’s just stuck there, crying! It’s like you said, adorable but sad.
Can’t wait to hear about how solids are going! They’re not going that well here…

Seriously cannot believe she is pulling up to standing. But take heart, Eleanor did that at 7 months and then didn’t walk until she was 17 months, so anything can happen!

Oh what a sweet baby girl you have!

She is so sweet. Happy six months, Kaitlyn!

She is so dang cute!!! I love this! Our girls seem so similar, I feel like I could have written most of this post! I feel better knowing we’re not the only ones with a peanut baby (E is not quite 13 oz). I love how much they love eachother – I bet that does your mommy heart good! Sweet girls! Happy 6 months Kaitlyn! Can’t wait for your update on solids. We have no idea what we’re doing so it’s fun to follow along! 🙂
Christina says
So crazy that she’s standing up! I have a 3 month old and it’s hard to believe she could be doing that kind of stuff in 3 short months. Did you ever go into detail about how you got her to take a bottle? At one month my baby took her bottle fine but now she just plays with it!
LaToya says
What a beautiful girl!
Hilary says
Hi,
At 6 months did your baby only take one nap a day at 1:15? My boy is 6 months old right now and he has never slept through the night. I try to give him two naps a day because he gets overly tired but maybe that is why he isn’t sleeping through the night.
Also, what remedies do you use when you know your baby is teething?
Thanks, Hilary
Brittany Dixon says
I forget phases rather quickly, but I do think at 6 months both my girls were taking 2 naps, which definitely helped them sleep better overnight.
With Hailey I loved Hylands teething tablets and I used them for Kaitlyn too, along with the occasional Tylenol.
